The
Doyle family of Henderson, Nev. is facing an illness that their daughter is the
only one in the world fighting.
Six-year-old Mercy Doyle is battling OMS (Opsoclonus Myoclonus
Syndrome), an extremely rare neurological disease affecting only 1 in 10
million children a year. However, in
November of 2011, doctors have stated her exact case is unlike any they have
ever seen before and she may be the only child in the world with all of her
symptoms, making her 1 in 7 billion. Her
team of doctors have tried multiple treatments, but have yet to find something
successful in treating the disease.
The
family is now working to raise money to help with medical costs and therapy,
which will include sending Mercy to Brain Balance of Henderson, the new center
helping children reconnect both hemispheres of the brain through a drug-free,
whole-child, 12-week program. The
fundraiser will take place May 27 at Color Me Mine from 6 to 9 p.m. at The
District in Henderson.
Kevin
and Camie Doyle have three children.
When Mercy was born, she thrived for the first two years of her
life. After she turned two, she
contracted the Epstein Barr virus, also known as mononucleosis. Tragically, the virus went into her brain and
began attacking it. Even after the virus
was gone, she was not herself again.
Multiple MRI scans showed that the virus caused permanent brain
damage. Since this time, she has
progressively gotten worse. She now has
permanent ataxia throughout her body, a constant left foot tremor which makes
it virtually impossible for her to walk correctly, along with regularly
occurring seizures to name a few.
In
March of 2011, Mercy was finally diagnosed with OMS (Opsoclonus Myoclonus
Syndrome). Mercy has since undergone two
rounds of different chemotherapies among other treatments with no success. Her body continues to deteriorate before her
family’s eyes despite all of their efforts.
As
her parents say, “We won’t stop fighting for our daughter’s life no matter what
the cost. A desperate parent cannot put
a price tag on the health and life of their child. Please consider supporting us as we attempt
to be our daughter’s voice and find a cure.
Mercy means the world to us, and we will not give up fighting and
praying for a miracle!”

ABOUT
BRAIN BALANCE OF HENDERSON:
Southern
Nevada families now have access to the successful, non-medical program helping
children nationwide overcome ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, Tourette’s, Asperger’s and
autism spectrum disorders and more. The
Brain Balance™ Achievement Center is now open in Henderson, Nev., at Stephanie
St. and I-215.
Clinical
research indicates numerous neuro-behaviorial and developmental disorders, such
as ADHD, autism and dyslexia, are the result of a functional imbalance between
the brain’s right and left hemispheres.
Through its course of treatment, Brain Balance helps children to
“reconnect” both hemispheres, reintroducing a healthy balance between and
within the functions and connections of the left and right sides of the
brain. Strengthening and balancing both
hemispheres, coupled with dietary and lifestyle changes, helps children
overcome the challenges associated with learning and behavioral disorders
without the use of medication.
Brain
Balance employs The Brain Balance Program®, which takes a whole-child,
drug-free approach to improving neural connections between the two hemispheres
of the brain. Instead of prescribing
medication to merely control symptoms, the program integrates cognitive and
physical exercises designed to stimulate underperforming areas of the brain
with nutritional and lifestyle recommendations.
