FORMULA Drift, Drag racing and Fireworks..all this week-end at LVMS!

Sweden's Hubinette returns to drifting for Back 2 School Bash/Formula DRIFT this weekend at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway will present its annual Formula DRIFT/Back 2 School Bash this weekend. Topping the international entry list is Samuel Hubinette. The 39-year-old native of Jakkmok, Sweden is a two-time Formula DRIFT champion (with a series-high nine event wins) and no stranger to the Las Vegas drift course, known as the fastest on the circuit.

Hubinette has been competing in an off-road series and has not entered a drifting event in 2011 until this weekend.

"I've been busy racing for the TORC TRAXXAS off-road championship," Hubinette explained. "We had conflicting dates and because I was in the points lead there, running for the championship, Dodge asked me to choose off-road and not Formula DRIFT.

"I am planning on competing in the next two Formula DRIFT competitions (Las Vegas and Irwindale, Calif.) and I'm very exited to be back in the seat of my SHR-Dodge Challenger again. I was at Irwindale Speedway last week testing and the car is running fantastic.

"I qualified first last year at LVMS and I'm hoping to do the same again and bring home a victory for my sponsors."

Drifting comes naturally to Hubinette, who is known to his competitors and fans as "the crazy Swede." His hometown is close to the Arctic Circle and controlling a car while sliding on snow and ice was a skill his father taught him at a young age.

When Hübinette was just eight years old he began sliding cars around on the Arctic frozen lakes. With northern Sweden covered in snow eight months of the year, drifting became second nature to the young Swede.

A U.S. citizen since 2006, Hubinette also has performed motion picture stunt driving in the Fast and Furious series, Night and Day and Crank 2.

The Back 2 School Bash is a multi-attraction event, featuring: Formula DRIFT Round 6, Monster Trucks (Bigfoot, Snakebite, Shocker, Maverik), a special Bigfoot Monster Truck vs. Jet Car drag race, freestyle motocross, Jet Dragsters, PSCA Pro Street drag racing and a car show (sponsored by Fatlace.com) and vendor midway.

Now in its eighth season, Formula DRIFT www.formulad.com is recognized as the North American professional drifting championship. Formula DRIFT provides a forum for professional drifters to compete in seven events nationwide for the coveted Formula DRIFT championship crown.

Past Las Vegas Formula DRIFT winners include: Tyler McQuarrie (2010) and Tanner Foust (2009).

The series attracts drivers from Japan, Sweden, Norway, Ireland, South Africa, Hong Kong, Thailand, Indonesia and Canada.
