MGM Resort www.mgmresorts.com entertainers and employees joined forces to "hit a homerun" for a great cause. Performers from Luxor's FANTASYwww.luxor.com/entertainment/entertainment_fantasy.aspx, MGM Grand's Crazy Horse Paris www.mgmgrand.com/entertainment/crazy-horse-show.aspx, Excalibur's Defending the Caveman www.excalibur.com/entertainment/defending_the_caveman.aspx and Vinny from New York-New-York www.newyorknewyork.com/vinny/ kicked off a two-day companywide charity softball tournament, which raised $12,000 for the MGM Resorts Foundation. One-hundred percent of these funds will be donated back into the community. This year alone, MGM Resorts employees have raised more than $4.8 million for the MGM Resorts Foundation.
The kick-off event pitted the Corporate All-Stars against the New York-New York Yankees. It was tight, but the Corporate All-Stars rallied to win in a close 14-13 defeat. Scoring big for the All-Stars was chief marketing officer Bill Hornbuckle with six RBIs including a homerun.
Company performers each got into the spirit of the game in their own special way:
* Throwing out the first pitch was Kevin Burke from Excalibur's
one-man show, Defending the Caveman
* FANTASY's Lorena Peril led the "2nd inning stretch" with a fun
rendition of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game"
* Dressed in Yankees stripes, Vinny from New York-New York
delivered hilarious (if biased) commentary in his signature NY style
while razzing the crowd with one-liners
* Performers from MGM Grand's Crazy Horse Paris and FANTASY at
Luxor excited the crowd, who waved their homemade signs and cheered on
their co-workers
Games were played all day Friday, with teams participating in a single elimination round on Saturday and a final game at 2 pm on Sunday, Nov. 21 to determine a tournament winner. The MGM Resorts Foundation is the
public foundation that collects and disburses employee donations to nonprofit charities and causes designated by its employees. Since its inception in 2002, MGM Resorts has disbursed more than $35 million in employee donations.
