Las Vegas Motor Speedway has the Women in Construction Event on Friday!! Great learning opportunity!

Las Vegas Motor Speedway to host Women in Construction event Friday

Las Vegas Motor Speedway will host the National Association of Women in Construction Career Day this Friday in the superspeedway infield. More than 1,000 Clark County middle school and high school students will be on hand to take part in various activities that promote education in the construction field.

The event will allow students to learn about various careers in construction as well as ways to pursue a successful career in the industry. Major general and subcontractors, labor unions, higher education, developers and building departments will support the biennial Construction Career Day with interactive workshops, heavy equipment displays, breakout classes and more.

“Our goal is to recruit young students into a career in construction,” said Sherry Hashimoto, the event’s coordinator and an NAWIC member. “There’s a great need for skilled trade professionals in this industry and this is a great way to spark interest in students across the Las Vegas Valley.”

The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) originally began as Women in Construction of Fort Worth, Texas. It was founded in 1953 by 16 women working in the construction industry. Knowing that women represented only a small fraction of the construction industry, the founders organized NAWIC to create a support network. Women in Construction of Fort Worth was so successful that it gained its national charter in 1955 and became the National Association of Women in Construction.
