It's a Festival! That’s what one group of local artists and entertainers are doing with all their recyclables, turning them into décor for an upcoming Fairy Festival. They get together each week for art, fun and inspiration with the goal of building a wonderland using all recycled items. “I’d say we are easily working with at least 85% recycled, probably even higher on most of the décor.” said Suzanne Lugano, the brains behind the Magic and Mischief Fairy Festival & Fantasy Ball coming up in September.
“We’re creating an amazing ambiance with all recycled items; even a good portion of the glue we’ve used was saved from a life in a landfill.” said Lugano. “Our goal is to build an awe inspiring fairy land using at least 80% recycled products… and then throw a big party so all the fairy folk can come to gather and see what we are doing to help save our planet so we, and the fairies can have a place to live. After all, it’s our mess; we need to do everything we can to clean it up.”
There will be monster sized dragon flies, tons of fairyland flowers, birds, bugs and bees made of plastic bottles, shopping bags, hangers and even torn up sections of some of our favorite local newspapers. This festival isn’t just about recycling, it’s a fun place to hang out for the day, there will be plenty of activities to get in on: Fairy Wand & Wing Making Workshops, a Magicians Workshop brought to you by McBride's School of Magic & Mystery, Bragadow puppet shows, stories with the Fairy Godmother, a fruity-licious workshop with Danielle Dove sponsored by Whole Foods, & you could even be a pawn in the human sized Elven chess game! All this plus beautiful local art in the Enchanted Marketplace, great food, performances by Downtown Ballet, Farasha, Fire Spinners & local music by Latcho Drum, Shufflefoot, the High Rollerz, The Red Rock Rainbow Drum Tribe, Morganne, and more!
