TAO Beach Opens For Summer 2014 W/Superstar Jason Derulo & Jordin Sparks & MORE Celebs!

Jordin

Jasp

Saturday afternoon, TAO Beach kicked off the summer season with a grand opening party hosted by R&B superstar Jason Derulo. Upon arriving, Derulo walked the red carpet alongside girlfriend and “American Idol” winner Jordin Sparks, who flaunted a stunning physique in a striped bikini. The playful pair then took over a VIP cabana with a group of friends. Sparks was spotted giving Derulo a loving pep talk and kisses on the cheek before he hopped on stage to perform. Taking over the mic, Derulo told the packed crowd that they were “kicking off summertime right” at TAO Beach. Revelers were treated to a long list of smash hits from the singer including “Whatcha Say,” “Ridin’ Solo,” “In My Head,” “Don’t Wanna Go Home” and “The Other Side.” As the crowd shouted every word of his current chart-topper “Talk Dirty,” he was sure to cool them off with several champagne showers. Closing out his performance with a bang, Derulo premiered his newest single “Wiggle” off his brand new album.

Jason Derulo, Jordin Sparks and Devin Logan
Joining in on the grand opening party and celebrating her 21st birthday was Olympic slopestyle skiing silver medalist, Devin Logan. Logan was joined by fellow Olympians Kaitlyn Farrington, Travis Jayner, Rebecca ‘Possum’ Torr, Peter Adam Crook as well as X Games medalists Tom Wallisch and Jen Hudak. Loving every minute of Jason Derulo’s performance, Logan sang along word for word and danced with her silver medal in hand. Logan handed off her Olympic medal to Derulo and he sported the hardware around his neck while on stage. Sparks quickly grabbed Logan after the performance ended and invited her to take a celebratory birthday shot with her and Derulo. The trio posed for photos and both Derulo and Sparks wished her a very happy birthday. Upon returning to her cabana, the ecstatic birthday girl was surprised with a three-tier cake, embellished with an edible silver medal and pair of skiis.

Also at TAO Beach was “True Blood” star Ryan Kwanten, Emily Osment from “Hannah Montana” and Rex Lee from HBO’s “Entourage.” The group took in the lively atmosphere from their VIP cabana where they were seen dancing the afternoon away.

Lana Del Rey & Young The Giant Bring Mad Musical Skills To Vegas!

The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas hosted two world-class acts last week on Friday, April 11 with shows by Lana Del Rey and Young The Giant as part of its Valley to Vegas: Spring Concert Series.

Lana Del Rey wooed a sold-out crowd in The Chelsea, following an opening set by DJ Born Casual. The siren songstress delighted the audience with orchestral, '60s-sounding pop delivered in her signature, sensuous style. The captivating performance included highly anticipated hits such as "Blue Jeans," "Summertime Sadness" and “Young and Beautiful,” Del Rey’s love-bent crooner off “The Great Gatsby” soundtrack. The personable artist took time to interact with fans, signing autographs and even trying on a floral crown, without missing a beat.
Young The Giant

Across the resort, Young The Giant dove headfirst into their set at Boulevard Pool, following a dynamic opening by St. Lucia. The Indie rockers, fronted by Sameer Gadhia, treated the crowd to an unforgettable performance complete with fan favorite songs such as "Cough Syrup," "I Got" and "My Body."

The shows mark the end the fourth day of performances in the Valley to Vegas: Spring Concert Series, an unparalleled eight-day entertainment experience that offers guests the opportunity to see some of the most talked about artists live at the most unique resort amidst the avant-garde of The Chelsea and the energetic social scene of Boulevard Pool.

Rocker Bryan Ferry Gives Energetic Amazing Performance At The Pearl

Just one night after an amazing performance at Coachella, Bryan Ferry brought the same energy to the intimate The Pearl Concert Theater inside Palms Casino Resort.  Ferry performed songs from his extensive catalogue including solo hits as well as those he belted out as front man of Roxy Music. He took to the keys for songs like “Re-Make/Re-Model” and had the audience on their feet for “Kiss and Tell.” Other hits like “Same Old Blues” and “Ladytron” were taken to another level by the skilled 8-piece band who added a great energy to the performance. Ferry promised to bring the ladies to Vegas and he sure did with his insanely talented female drummer and sax player, as well as his two back-up singers who shimmied and shook their way through the set. At one point Ferry un-did his bowtie, which just added to his on-stage coolness.

The Great Vegas Festival Of Beer Takes Place Downtown On 4/26!

The 2014 Great Vegas Festival of Beer will embrace and transform the streets of its new home in Downtown’s Fremont East Entertainment District with a full lineup of craft beer-infused elements, including the Gastropub dining pavilion, the Human Arcade with pub games and music, and the BrewLogic area with presentations from master brewers and Cicerones on Saturday, April 26 from 4 to 8 p.m.

“We really challenged ourselves this year to create an experience that will be super exciting to the beer enthusiast and equally approachable to the casual, or even infrequent, beer drinker,” said Brian Chapin founder of Motley Brews. “With new additions like the Gastropub and the Human Arcade, this has become as much about the lifestyle surrounding craft beer as it is about the brews themselves, and we’re really excited to see the way people embrace the new location and these new elements.”

Expanding on the craft beer culture, the 2014 festival will have endless offerings as it aims to showcase Las Vegas’ burgeoning craft beer market for both locals and visitors. What Chapin calls “more than just another beer fest,” this year’s festival will introduce some great educational and culinary elements to enhance the craft experience.

Introducing a more beer-inspired culinary element to this year’s festival, the Gastropub focuses on how craft beer fuels recipes and accentuates the way food is enjoyed. Local restaurants and breweries have partnered to create complex, beer-infused menus with highlights including dishes from Naked City Pizza, Desnudo Tacos, The Goodwich, Brooklyn Bowl, Stack, Fat Choy, Echo & Rig, Lulu’s Bread and Breakfast and Chef Mike Minor’s new Truck U Barbeque food truck. These culinary marvels will be cooking up one-of-a-kind dishes inspired by craft beers, such as Naked City’s Lamb Meatball Pizza or Brooklyn Bowl’s Sweet and Spicy Catfish. Food in the Gastropub will be available for purchase and is not included as part of the festival ticket.

Out of the sun and inside Fremont Country Club, the Human Arcade will bring out the crowd’s inner child with “grown-up” twists on classic party games like giant-Jenga, bean bag toss and “bear pong.” Across the playing field, festival-goers will get their groove on at the “Silent Disco,” where guests donning headphones can tune into a variety of live DJ sets and hit the dance floor. Throughout the festival, live performances by Las Vegas’ very own Rusty Maples and Los Angeles-based Crash Kings will entertain those wandering Fremont between sips.

With Vegas being home to some of the industry’s leading mixologists and cicerones, the BrewLogic series invites beer enthusiasts of all levels to sit in on casual talks and demonstrations as well as participate in guided tastings to enhance their craft beer knowledge. The festival’s new series creates the unique opportunity for guests to form a better understanding of craft beer and new appreciation for their favorite beverage.

While more than 80 breweries will be representing more than 250 unique beers, a surefire favorite at this year’s festival will be the official festival beer, Sweet ‘N Funky Desert Junkie. Brewed by Joseph James Brewing Company exclusively for this year’s festival, the beer is a Honey Blonde Ale, brewed with local desert honey for a subtle sweet flavor and aroma, two-row malt and saaz hops. The beer’s name and logo were both created by Las Vegas locals through a social media contest.

An exclusive VIP area, known as the Brewers Lounge, will take root at the centrally-located Commonwealth. VIPs will get exclusive access to beer cocktails, reserve pours and small, beer-inspired plates crafted and served by the neighboring La Comida.

Tickets are currently on sale and available for General Admission for $35 and Early Entry for $45, until Saturday, April 19. Pending availability, tickets will be available for General Admission for $40 and Early Entry for  $50, from Saturday, April 19 until the day of the festival. VIP tickets have already sold out. Doors open for Early Entry and VIP ticket holders at 3 p.m. A portion of ticket proceeds will benefit The Neon Museum and Nevada Craft Brewers Association (NCBA). For more information or to purchase tickets, please visit the Great Vegas Festival of Beer website greatvegasbeer.com/.

Beloved Gifted Chef Kerry Simon To Open Local Restaurant Carson Kitchen

Deviled Eggs

Short Rib Sliders

Carson Kitchen will combine the innovative cuisine of the city’s first true local, celebrity chef, Kerry Simon, with the hipster vibe of Downtown Las Vegas when it opens on the corner of 6th Street and Carson Avenue at South 124 6th St. in early June.

“I have long wanted to open a true neighborhood restaurant and as Downtown Las Vegas is now the social center for locals, it is the perfect spot for this concept,” says Simon. “I want this restaurant to feel like dinners I’ve prepared for friends in my own home, and I have developed the menu and design with those friends in mind.”

A new American gastro-lounge, Carson Kitchen artfully celebrates food and drink through an ingredient-driven menu that provides innovative flavors for guests through progressive, yet approachable selections. True to his signature style, Simon elevates classics with contemporary flavors, from “Devil’s Eggs,” made with crispy pancetta and caviar, to a cocoa-espresso NY strip steak served with red wine demi. Simon will also place an emphasis on sustainable ingredients, as well as locally sourced produce.

Carson Kitchen was developed in partnership with hospitality veteran, Cory Harwell, who relocated to Las Vegas from New York in 1997 and has since had his hand in leading many high-level restaurants throughout the city. Harwell and Simon are working alongside Tony Hsieh and the Downtown Project to embrace the developing culture of Fremont East and the local spirit of Las Vegas. Carson Kitchen is in the space formerly occupied by the John E. Carson Hotel, keeping much of the character and ‘bones’ of the original structure.  The name was inspired by the John E. Carson Hotel itself, as well as pays tribute to The Mercer Kitchen in New York City by Simon’s mentor, Jean Georges-Vongerichten.

“Having lived in Las Vegas for so many years, I’m really excited about developing a restaurant that will primarily appeal to locals,” says Harwell. “Plus, creatively it has been a fun project for us, to develop a restaurant that from menu to design feels like being in someone’s home. The menu has that appeal of experimenting with different flavors in the kitchen, and it has presented an opportunity for us to be more playful with the dining experience.”

The 1,800-square-foot dining room will seat 90 guests with a design inspired by Simon’s own loft-style home in Las Vegas. The chef’s table is an experience in itself with a tabletop that borders the kitchen and doubles as an expo counter. The dining room has the feel of being welcomed into a homey, yet modern kitchen with the use of repurposed wood and steel materials. Carson Kitchen’s stone-oven gives the appearance of an old-school wood burning hearth, with the casing built for it outside of the restaurant. Twisted metal pieces run from floor-to-ceiling to separate the space into different areas, which provides a more intimate dining experience. The bar top counter ties into the kitchen being made out of the same material of an end-cut of a butcher’s block.

The 910-square-foot, garden-style rooftop patio will host live music, such as DJs and bands, offering a space to dine and enjoy a lush six-foot-tall living wall, a bar top made of funky granite and overall lively social scene.

The menu, which has an emphasis on sharing, includes social plates, sandwiches, entrées and stone-oven flatbreads. Social plates, priced from $6 to $10, include tempura green beans made with pepper jelly and cream cheese; bacon jam served with baked brie and toasted baguette; and “Devil’s Eggs” complete with crispy pancetta and caviar.

The “Between Bread” sandwich section, priced from $10 to $14, includes short rib sliders made with root beer glaze; grilled cheese with apple slices and caramelized onion; and a butter burger topped with Boursin and Taleggio cheeses, lettuce and tomato. Stone-oven flatbreads are priced from $8 to $10 and include duck confit made with black mission figs and gorgonzola cheese; merguez sausage topped with fennel, broccolini and ricotta cheese; and wild mushroom complemented with caramelized onions and Cabrales bleu cheese.

The sustainable selections from the farm and garden range from $8 to $14 and include rabbit ragu made with spaghetti squash and parmesan; kale & apple served with pancetta croutons and lemon vinaigrette; and black rice and oxtail risotto, made with a parmesan cream. Fresh fish selections, priced from $10 to $14, include steelhead trout cake served with mustard cream; swordfish topped with lemon, mint and basil; and mussels made with chorizo, saffron and fennel. Meats, priced from $14 to $18, include cocoa-espresso NY strip steak served with red wine demi; chicken roulade with chorizo and manchego cheeses; and roasted pork loin topped with apple cider glaze.

Desserts are highlighted by a bourbon fudge brownie served with brown butter bacon ice cream; glazed donut bread pudding made with three rum caramel and vanilla crème anglaise; and “Not Your Father’s” Twinkies.

The drink menu will feature more “mom and pop” style selections to support smaller businesses, such as Jones Soda, Virgil’s and Tommy Knockers. The cocktail menu will offer handcrafted selections with an urban masculine influence and will utilize organic spirit options from craft distilleries around the country. Selections include the “Old Wooden Shed,” made with No. 209 Gin, XTA Liqueur, fresh lemon and angostura bitters; and the “Brewers Fix,” made with Hophead Vodka, Bonne Maman Apricot Preserves, fresh lemon, simple syrup and Prosecco. For beer and wine, Carson Kitchen will have a diverse selection of small-batch American craft beers and wines from boutique vineyards around the country.
