Fun Family Time! Back To School Night At The LVMS

Southern Nevada kids are back in school, and area race car drivers will be teaching a master class in short track racing at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Saturday night.

Action returns to the 3/8-mile paved oval this weekend after a seven-week break with Back to School Night presented by Whelen Engineering. All local students, teachers and school staff will be admitted free, along with one adult guest, by presenting their valid IDs on the special night.

The evening will include free giveaways, special appearances by area educational leaders and a school-themed opening ceremony. Fans attending Back to School Night will get a double dose of the NASCAR Bombers division, which will have bookend 25-lap features highlighting a 10-race schedule.

The race schedule also includes a 50-lap NASCAR Super Late Models feature and 25-lap races for the NASCAR Super Stocks, NASCAR Grand American Modifieds and USLCI Legends classes. The USLCI Thunder Cars, USLCI Bandolero Outlaws, USLCI Bandolero Bandits and Skid Plate Cars also will be in action at the short track.

Divisional points leaders like Aaron McMorran (NASCAR Grand American Modifieds, NASCAR Bombers), Stan Mullis (NASCAR Super Late Models) and Court Connell (NASCAR Super Stocks) are expected to be part of the driver lineup.

Gates open for spectators at 5 p.m. Pacific Time on Saturday, opening ceremonies are set for 6:50 p.m. and racing follows immediately.

K-2 students will describe and model their favorite kind of Ferris wheel during the classroom portion of the lesson plan. Students in grades 3-5 will be asked to design a new attraction for the Las Vegas Strip that is safe, cost-effective and energy efficient. Students in grades 6-8 will study the sum forces acting upon the Ferris wheel that enable it to rotate continuously. Finally, high school students will focus on the full design of a Ferris wheel by creating models, safety protocols and a full operation plan for the structure. Students in all grades will have the opportunity to ride the High Roller in person, after which they will have a chance to revise their classroom work based on observations made during the field trip.
