Join The Party For 4th Of July At Plaza Hotel & Casino

The fully renovated rooftop pool at the Plaza Hotel & Casino, which opened last July to rave reviews, will celebrate its one-year anniversary with a special Plaza Pool Nights Fourth of July party on Saturday, July 1, with live entertainment, drink specials, and a barbecue buffet. The festivities will culminate with a spectacular fireworks show lighting up the downtown skyline.

This summer, the Pool at the Plaza introduced Plaza Pool Nights, dance and swim parties held under the stars on Saturday nights. On Saturday, July 1, the Plaza Pool Nights party will be the biggest yet this season to celebrate the pool’s anniversary and upcoming Fourth of July holiday.

On July 1, there will be music throughout the day at the pool, and in the evening, guests will enjoy live entertainment from Flashbax, an 80’s tribute band.

Beginning at 7 p.m., the cocktail bar at the Pool at the Plaza will offer a holiday drink special. Guests can buy one get one free of the special Firework cocktail (comprised of Strawberry Daiquiri, Pina Colada Rum and Blueberry Lemonade Vodka), which is on the pool bar menu for $10. The pool bar will also offer a selection of frozen and specialty cocktails as well as beer and wine.

On the pool deck, there will be a special barbecue buffet with all-American favorites like baked beans, cornbread, watermelon, BBQ chicken, ribs, brisket, corn, roasted red potatoes, salad and apple pie. The buffet is all-you-can-eat for $25 per person.

At the end of the night, the Plaza will shoot live fireworks from multiple rooftop locations at approximately 10:45 p.m. The show will last approximately 4 minutes, and while the best views will be from the Plaza’s rooftop pool party, the fireworks will no doubt be seen in the sky for miles around.

Entry to Plaza Pool Nights, including the special July 1 event, is free. Guests must be 21 years of age or older.

In addition to its private (yet affordable) cabanas, the Pool at the Plaza has ample space to relax poolside. Building on last year’s renovation that created a “retro Palm Springs-meets classic downtown Las Vegas” inspired feel, the Pool at the Plaza further upgraded its resort style furnishings with new cocktail side tables, more wet deck lounge chairs to meet popular demand, and a dedicated dining area with new dining tables, chairs and umbrellas.

For those who want a bit more activity, the Pool at the Plaza also offers a tennis court and 12 Pickleball courts, making the Plaza the only hotel/casino in Las Vegas with so many dedicated courts for this fast growing sport that combines table tennis, badminton and tennis. Guests can rent paddles, racquets and balls for a nominal fee.

More details on events and amenities at the Pool at the Plaza this summer are available online at www.plazahotelcasino.com.

Downtown Property Juhl Invites Local Artists To Apply To Live FREE

Juhl, a 344–residence, loft-style community that spans an entire city block in downtown Las Vegas and known for its flexible floor plans and industrial chic design aesthetic, announces a call to Nevada artists for its Artist in Residence program.

This new initiative invites working Nevada artists to apply for the program which will provide an opportunity for select artists to live and work rent-free at Juhl in the heart of Downtown Las Vegas for a residency of up to six months.  The residency includes a two-level live/work space at Juhl with a ground-level studio space of approximately 1,000 square feet and approximately 1,000 square feet of living space on the second floor.

To apply, interested artists should send to artistinresidence@juhllv.com by July 15, 2017 the following:
·       Cover letter
·       Resume
·       Ten photos of your work with corresponding descriptions
·       Responses to these four questions:
o   1-Why do you want to be the Artist in Residence at Juhl?
o   2-What will you contribute or how will you influence the downtown Las Vegas arts scene?
o   3- What makes your work unique?
o   4- How would this residency help you complete a specific project or body of work that would further your career as an artist?

A jury consisting of Uri Vaknin, Juhl owner and board member, Art Museum at Symphony Park; Justin Favela, Nevada artist and current Juhl Artist in Residence; and Michele Quinn, principal, MCQ, Michele Quinn Fine Art Advisory, and nationally recognized art consultant and curator; will select the next Juhl Artist in Residence from submitted applications by August 1, 2017.   The selected artist will be offered a residency to begin October 1, 2017.

Qualified artists must live in Nevada, have a demonstrated track record of success as an artist, have a desire to live and engage in the downtown Las Vegas arts community and enjoy the opportunity to champion art and culture in downtown Las Vegas by hosting regular arts-oriented events for the general public in their Juhl studio.

According to Uri Vaknin, a partner at KRE Capital LLC, whose company, in partnership with Dune Real Estate Partners and Northcap, purchased Juhl in 2013 as DK Las Vegas, Juhl is a mecca for artists in downtown Las Vegas because of its location between the Arts District and Fremont East Entertainment District. “Juhl’s architecture and contemporary design aesthetic naturally attract artists and creative types who appreciate the community’s progressive vibe,” said Vaknin. “And as work on a future modern art museum at Symphony Park progresses, downtown Las Vegas will continue to evolve as an arts community. Juhl is ideally positioned in the center of it all; at Juhl, creativity lives here.”

Justin Favela, the program’s inaugural Artist in Residence, will conclude his residency this summer. He is a Las Vegas native working in the mediums of painting, sculpture, and performance and one of 30 Nevada artists whose work is featured in Tilting the Basin: Contemporary Art in Nevada in downtown Las Vegas that explores the full range of contemporary artists working throughout the state.

During his residency, Favela has been working on a commissioned piece for the upcoming Mi Tierra: Contemporary Artists Explore Place exhibit at Denver Art Museum. Favela is one of 12 other Latino artists from throughout the country to participate in this prestigious show, each expressing through their work the experience of living in the American West. Favela’s work draws inspiration from art history, pop culture and his Guatemalan/Mexican heritage. In addition to showing his work in galleries around Nevada, he has curated many shows throughout southern Nevada, from the University of Nevada in Las Vegas’ (UNLV) Marjorie Barrick Museum to El Porvenir Mini-Market in North Las Vegas.

Juhl, now selling, is an urban destination, complete with 20,000-square-feet of specially curated ground level retail that complements the neighborhood’s existing retail, seamlessly connects downtown districts, including the Arts District, from which it draws significant inspiration.  Juhl is a popular residential choice for professionals and entrepreneurs, especially many who work at firms and courthouses throughout downtown’s expansive legal community.

Juhl encompasses multiple buildings, including a high-rise, mid-rise, brownstones, live/work spaces, retail spaces and a warehouse style loft building. Many of its residences can be customized via 130 unique floorplan configurations, including many that are one-of-a-kind within the property.  Homes at Juhl range from 600 to just under 2,000 square feet and start in the high $100,000s.

Recently refreshed, Juhl boasts an upgraded resort-style pool with cabanas, lobby and co-op working spaces that cater to its professional residents. Hallmarks of Juhl include flexible floor plans, large terraces and floor-to-ceiling windows that maximize natural light. Private balconies, 10-foot ceilings, energy efficient design and details, exposed concrete surfaces and mechanicals and upgraded fixtures and surfaces all combine to create Juhl’s cool urban vibe.

Amenities include an al fresco screening room; two-story fitness facility overlooking the pool and spa; tenth floor wine patio, dining deck and fire pit; 24-hour security; gated parking structure with assigned resident parking; and full service concierge. A summer kitchen, called “Canvas Grill,” is the perfect spot for warm weather entertaining.  And a nearby Urban Garden plot exclusively for use by Juhl residents makes it possible to grow fresh herbs and vegetables – in the heart of the city.

“Juhl is the next exciting addition to downtown’s evolution as a true urban center within the heart of our city,” said Vaknin.  “It provides a myriad of cosmopolitan living options for like-minded residents drawn to the area’s growing vibrancy.”

Bellagio Conservatory Is Now In Full Bloom For An Italian Summer

Abounding with lemons and Cypress tress, Bellagio’s Conservatory & Botanical Gardens transforms into the picturesque island of Capri, Italy this summer. On view now through September 9, the Italian-inspired display takes visitors on a delightful journey through scenic grounds rich in botanical wonder, calming water features and vibrant colored villas, reminiscent of the charming island.

Envisioned by renowned designer Ed Libby and the Bellagio Horticulture team, the summer installation pays homage to well-known gardens throughout Italy and surprises visitors with a replica of the island of Capri, located in the Bay of Naples.

The journey begins in the East Garden as guests make their way through two 26-foot stone archways framed by eight Cypress trees. A four-tiered, 8-foot fountain, centrally located between the archways adds a soothing element to the garden while lemon trees emerge from four oversized handcrafted Italian vases.

Passersby will happen upon two lush gardens, resembling an estate near Rome. In the South Garden, an oversized 22-foot, moss-covered fountain overflowing with water pays tribute to The Fontana dell'Ovato located in Villa d’Este, a 16th century residence in Tivoli. Made of lentils, an 8-foot plate depicts the image of an Italian village landscape, illustrating the beauty found throughout the countryside. Nearby in the North Garden, water streams from five lion and monkey sculptures mounted on a foliage-covered wall lined with four lemon topiaries comprised of 1,400 flowers and an intricately majolica-tiled bench.

Surrounded by magnificent vegetation and eight hanging Italian lanterns, onlookers catch their breath at the rugged landscape and cove-studded coastline in the West Garden. Fifty multicolored villas complete with terraces, a 12-foot chiming bell tower and sun-soaked umbrellas create an architectural model representing life on the island of Capri. A 30-foot lemon tree provides shade to blue and white yachts calmly floating by Lovers’ Rock.

Bellagio’s Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is complimentary to the public and open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Magician Murray Sawchuck Is Honored With Shrunken Head!

The Golden Tiki added to its Cabinet of Curiosities Wednesday night by unveiling celebrity magician Murray Sawchuck's shrunken head.  Managing Partner Branden Powers  and The Baron of the Universe, former contes
tant on "America's Got Talent," were on hand to present the honor to the celebrity magician, comedian, and host of family-friendly "Murray the Magician" show at Planet Hollywood.

"This is very cool. Thank you to The Golden Tiki," said Sawchuck. "It's great to be amongst the ranks of Carrot Top and Robin Leach and all the other shrunken heads who have come before me."

Said Powers, "We're excited to add Murray's head to our wall. These heads keep getting better and better, and it's an honor have these Las Vegas icons be a part of The Golden Tiki tradition. "

Sawchuck's head was crafted over a four week process by Smithsonian artist Terry Barr, and is the seventh in a series of celebrity shrunken heads on display at Vegas' iconic Tiki revival bar. Previous shrunken heads include Marky Ramone of The Ramones, Carrot Top, Frank Marino, Robin Leach, Norm Clarke and Vinnie Paul.

Located in Chinatown, Las Vegas, The Golden Tiki is a journey to a wondrous land where boundaries are only limited to one's imagination. The vision of hospitality veteran Branden Powers, in collaboration with Seth Schorr, Jeff Fine and Joe Cain, The Golden Tiki has spared no expense in recreating the classic mid-century tiki bar, reminiscent of Don the Beachcomber and Trader Vic's storied establishments. The cocktail menu features nostalgic classics and new creations, as well as a traditional Martinique ti service and a special treasure chest VIP experience. Collaborating with renowned artists including Tiki Bosko, Billy the Crud, Bill Collins and Oceanic Arts, the one-of-a-kind decor also boasts an animatronic skeleton of the mythical privateer and legend behind The Golden Tiki, William Tobias Faulkner. Open 24 hours a day, The Golden Tiki offers a multitude of experiences and can host private parties up to 145 people. For more information, visit thegoldentiki.com or call 702.222.3196.
