Join The 2017 Tunnel Jam And Help Feed People In Need

Vegas Indoor Skydiving, the first indoor skydiving facility to open its doors in the United States, is continuing its 35th anniversary celebration with the second annual Tunnel Jam flight competition, pitting the city’s most talented bodyflyers against one another for the chance to win cash prizes and claim the prestigious title of “Tunnel Jam Champ.”

“We are all excited and honored to be able to feed hungry families by doing what we love in a city that we cherish so much,” said Dave McMahan, Business Development at Vegas Indoor Skydiving.  “From the overwhelming success of last year’s Tunnel Jam, we knew we had to go even bigger this year and that’s just what we’re doing!”

“The thrill of indoor skydiving is a unique way to draw attention to the issue of hunger, and we’re very grateful for the 750 meals that the 2016 Tunnel Jam made possible for those in need in our community,” said Brian Burton, CEO and president of Three Square Food Bank. “We are very fortunate to benefit from the event again this year, and we can’t thank the team at Vegas Indoor Skydiving enough for what they’re doing to improve the lives of our fellow Southern Nevadans.”

2017 Tunnel Jam Invitational will be held Saturday, March 25, 2017 at the Vegas Indoor Skydiving parking lot at 200 Convention Center Drive. The day-long festivities, including live music, food, raffle prizes and the chance to purchase anniversary flight specials for $35 per person, will begin at noon. Entry to the 2017 Tunnel Jam Invitational is free. To receive a raffle ticket, guests are asked to donate one bag of non-perishable food (at least two cans) at the door, which will go directly to Three Square Food Bank, in an effort to help families in need. All guests are invited to view the competition, one-of-a-kind body flight demonstrations and the award reception, as well as food and beverages.

The competition will begin at 5 p.m. inside the 22-foot-tall flight chamber and will feature two divisions, Intermediate and Pro. Fifteen bodyflyers from the Vegas Indoor Skydiving staff and beyond will compete for more than $6,000 in cash and prizes. Each contestant in the Amateur and Pro Divisions will take part in a “Best Routine” competition, where their minute-long routine will be judged on a 30-point system, with marks for style, difficulty, and execution. In addition, the Pro Division will take part in a “Best Trick” competition. The Tunnel Jam 2017 celebrity judge panel will include BMX pro and reality television star Ricardo Laguna, legendary flight instructors Ray Kubiak, Jimmy Redmond and Indoor Skydiving Champion Mike Silva.

Established in 2007 to provide hunger relief, Three Square Food Bank offers wholesome, nutritious food to nonprofit and faith-based organizations, schools and feeding sites that serve a wide range of Southern Nevadans. Built in 1982 in the heart of the famed Las Vegas Strip, Vegas Indoor Skydiving operates the first indoor skydiving facility to open in the United States.  At Vegas Indoor Skydiving, guests will earn their wings and experience bodyflight during a simulated skydive experience without the use of an airplane or parachute. The experience is similar to the free-fall aspect of skydiving, with the addition of a mesh trampoline floor and foam-padded walls.

Vegas Indoor Skydiving is a safe and fun way for you to taste the thrill of skydiving without an airplane or parachute. No experience is necessary and just about anyone of any age can participate. Their mission is to provide a safe and memorable indoor skydiving experience to the general public, understanding that everyone will learn and grow at different rates, to adapt to the ability of the flyer and to encourage their development by sharing our love and knowledge of flight.

The wind tunnel itself is 12 feet wide and 22 feet tall, and yes with a lot of practice you can go all the way to the top. The machine is powered by a 1,000 horsepower electric motor attached to the propeller from a DC-4 airplane.

Nominate A Non-Profit That Works W/K-12 School Children To Win $125K

Seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson and Mike Wells, president and CEO of Wells Enterprises, maker of Blue Bunny Ice Cream, announced the launch of the 2017 Blue Bunny Helmet of Hope campaign, which will award $125,000 to five non-profit organizations in May.

The announcement, made via video (2017 Helmet of Hope Video Announcement) today on Johnson’s Facebook page, revealed that not-for-profit 501c3 organizations that directly support K-12 public education will be eligible to compete for one of the five available $25,000 grants.

“Jimmie and his wife Chandra’s continued dedication to the Helmet of Hope program is inspiring,” said Wells. “Blue Bunny is honored and proud to once again partner with them on this incredible program to help continue to support academic success for kids through these local organizations.”

The Blue Bunny Helmet of Hope program, which began in 2008, allows fans and consumers across the country to nominate their favorite education-focused charities, including parent-teacher associations, to receive a $25,000 grant, a Blue Bunny ice cream party, and special recognition on Johnson’s race helmet. Nominations will be accepted at www.helmetofhope.org through Friday, April 14. Ten semifinalists will be selected from these nominations. The public vote to choose the final five grant recipients will take place May 5 to 12.

“Blue Bunny and the Wells Family are incredible partners, and Chandra and I are so grateful for their continued support of this program and the Foundation,” Johnson said. “Each year, we are inspired by the passion the selected charities have for K-12 public education. The Blue Bunny Helmet of Hope program provides them the opportunity to raise awareness for the amazing work they are doing in a fun and exciting way.”

To date, the Blue Bunny Helmet of Hope program has contributed more than $940,000 to 91 different charities.

Johnson will take to the track this weekend at Las Vegas in the No. 48 Lowe’s Kobalt Tools Chevrolet SS.  He will wear the Blue Bunny Helmet of Hope during the NASCAR Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn Aug. 13.

It's NASCAR Week In Vegas! Traffic Should Be Smooth On Race Days!

Las Vegas Motor Speedway officials are confident in the track’s traffic plan for this year’s 2017 NASCAR Weekend.

Two decades of experience working with state, county and local representatives have helped the speedway formulate a comprehensive and fluid traffic plan that continues to evolve. Utilizing multiple entrances and exits, combined with experienced staff and area law enforcement, LVMS expects smooth vehicle flow for the 2017 event weekend.

Speedway officials urge fans to head to the track early and to utilize mass transportation options to and from the track each day. With construction on Interstate 15 and Las Vegas Boulevard currently under way, race officials are asking fans to allow extra time and show patience entering and exiting the track each day.

The RaceDay Express shuttle bus service – which debuted at the 2015 NHRA Toyota Nationals – will expand its presence and deliver more fans to LVMS than ever before. With more than 100,000 avid NASCAR fans expected in and out of the 1.5-mile superspeedway for the Kobalt 400, utilization of mass transportation like RaceDay Express and Maverick Helicopters will be key. RaceDay Express will be operated by Alan Waxler Group, which has serviced many major events in Las Vegas including the Electric Daisy Carnival.

“We are looking forward to another great NASCAR Weekend at LVMS, and we’re ready to welcome a big crowd to our 1.5-mile speedway,” LVMS President Chris Powell said. “We’ve worked diligently with area officials and the Nevada Department of Transportation to put together a traffic plan that will work best for everyone involved, and we’re confident we will maximize the assets available to us during our special weekend. We urge fans to arrive early and be patient while leaving, and we anticipate another outstanding three days of NASCAR excitement at LVMS.”

For fans driving their own vehicles to the speedway, options such as the Lucky 7 Preferred Lot, which will have two dedicated exit lanes following the races on Saturday and Sunday, are encouraged. LVMS would like to remind fans that the speedway’s extensive on-site shuttle system will begin running  45 minutes after the conclusion of Saturday’s and Sunday’s races due to heavy foot traffic leaving the grandstand areas.

Traffic updates will be provided on Sunday, March 12, via the LVMS Twitter feed (@lvmotorspeedway) and on the radio at KBAD AM-920.

LVMS’s 2017 NASCAR Weekend begins with the Stratosphere Pole Day on Friday, March 10, with Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series qualifying beginning at 4:45 p.m. Pacific Time. The Xfinity Series’ Boyd Gaming 300 takes place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 11, and the weekend’s racing culminates on Sunday, March 12, with the Kobalt 400 at 12:30 p.m.

For tickets to all events, or for RaceDay Express and Neon Garage passes, Lucky 7 parking permits or driver introduction passes, call 1-800-644-4444 or log on to LVMS.com.
