Las Vegas entertainer and singer Jassen Allen pays tribute to the late Luther Vandross and other iconic performers with his tribute show “With Love…Luther Vandross and Friends” at The Space (3460 Cavaretta Ct.) on Friday, Jan. 27 at 8 p.m.
“With Love…Luther Vandross and Friends” not only pays musical homage to the great Luther Vandross, but iconic artists and performers such as Whitney Houston, Donna Summer, Natalie Cole and Etta James. The show will feature the vocals of the “Not So Background Singers” and the sounds of the With Love Band.
Originally from Des Moines, Iowa, Allen started his career early by singing in church choirs. Before his family moved to Omaha, NE, he discovered his love for music, which led him to major in theater at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. During his time in college, he was selected by the Department of Defense to perform for the troops throughout Europe to raise morale during the first Gulf War. After performing at theme parks in Texas and Florida, Allen enjoyed a successful career as a production singer for Norwegian and Carnival Cruise Lines. On board, he created three one man shows – the “Jassen Allen Experience,” a Broadway revue entitled “Melodic Versus,” and a Luther Vandross tribute show called “Here and Now.”
Allen then moved to Los Angeles where he performed in two Civic Center Opera productions and also had a feature role in the original musical “Knight Life,” written by Robert Sternin and Prudence Fraser of the hit television show “The Nanny.” Eventually making his way to Las Vegas, he became a fixture at Kenny Davidsen’s Celebrity Bow Tie Cabaret and sung behind local celebrities such as Phil Flowers, Skye Dee Miles and Earl Turner. Allen has also had the honor to sing background vocals for recording artists Rosanne Cash, Mary Wilson of The Supremes and Barbra Streisand. Currently, Allen is singing with “America’s Got Talent” winner Michael Grimm and is part of a duo BCG who are the official background singers of Mondays Dark.
Tickets are $25, general admission seating. Table seating is also available for $45 per ticket. Tickets for this special engagement are on sale now online at www.thespacelv.com or at The Space box office at 3460 Cavaretta Court.

The Plaza Hotel & Casino in conjunction with Life is Beautiful Festival and global art curator Justkids has partnered with contemporary street artist Shepard Fairey and English multimedia artist D*Face to unveil new murals in Downtown Las Vegas on Saturday, Feb. 11. Located on the exterior of the Plaza Hotel & Casino, the works are the latest additions to Downtown’s ever-growing outdoor art gallery curated by Life is Beautiful.
“The Plaza, like Downtown Las Vegas itself, has a mix of classic Rat-Pack Vegas culture with eclectic modern influences, so we are proud to sponsor this mural project which will add a vibrant artistic flare to the property without compromising its historic integrity or ambiance,” said Jonathan Jossel, CEO of the Plaza Hotel & Casino. “The murals will further diversify the art installations available for public viewing Downtown and be another unique element enhancing a visitor’s experience at the Plaza and in Downtown Las Vegas.”
“Since its inception, Life is Beautiful has contributed dozens of permanent murals and art installations to beautify Las Vegas’ downtown district,” said Ryan Doherty, chief experience officer at Life is Beautiful. “We are very excited to have artists like Shepard Fairey and D*Face contributing to our community through these amazing works of art.”
Fairey, best known for his Obey campaign, Barack Obama “Hope” poster and most recent “We the People” work, will bring his favorite signature imagery to the Plaza Hotel, which is the tallest building he has painted in Las Vegas. Recognized for his pop-art style, D*Face will create a unique mural using bright colors, graphic shapes and comic book images.
“It’s a very ambitious project. The walls are massive and we couldn’t have found a better fit than Shepard Fairey and D*Face to do such challenging artwork because of the skills it requires technically and artistically,” said Charlotte Dutoit, Justkids curator. “We are very happy to continue our partnership with Life Is Beautiful on such an iconic Vegas hotel as the Plaza.”
The burgeoning neighborhood is also home to additional murals by both Fairey and D*Face located throughout the Fremont East Entertainment District. A testament to its commitment to enriching the Las Vegas community with art, this is the second time Life is Beautiful has collaborated with a casino-resort to infuse art into their property outside of the festival’s footprint.
