Celebrate National Tequila Day With A Complimentary Mexican Candy Shot!

 Lucky Day, a 3,000-square-foot tequila and mezcal bar located at 516 Fremont St., will celebrate National Tequila Day by offering guests a complimentary shot from 10 p.m. to closing on Saturday, July 24.

 Visitors who pay Lucky Day’s late-night cover charge will be invited to celebrate the bar’s favorite holiday with a complimentary Mexican Candy shot, a sweet and spicy mix of tequila, strawberry puree, mango puree, peach schnapps, lime juice and a Tajin rim to heat the night up.  Evening beats  sure to drive guests to Lucky Day’s dance floor will be provided by DJ Andyoowops, a Las Vegas native who can easily customize tracks to any crowd.

Las Vegas Local Hotspot The Sand Dollar Opens Second Location

 A longtime Las Vegas icon for live music and craft cocktails, The Sand Dollar Lounge will open a second location inside the Plaza Hotel & Casino this fall, bringing to downtown Las Vegas a venue dedicated to late-night live music and entertainment.

In 1976, the Sand Dollar Blues Bar opened its doors, and almost instantly became one of Las Vegas’ most iconic bars. Some of the greatest blues legends, as well as many other famous musicians, graced its stage for more than 30 years. People like Muddy Waters, B.B. King, and even Mick Jagger would swing into the Sand Dollar when they were in Las Vegas. In 2007, the Sand Dollar Blues Bar closed its doors, but it was resurrected in 2009, when The Sand Dollar Lounge opened on Spring Mountain Road honoring the tradition and history of the iconic Vegas venue. In 2015, the Sand Dollar Lounge was taken over by the current owners Nathan Grates and Anthony Jamison with an eye on bringing back and building on its original luster. 

Now the iconic venue will open The Sand Dollar Downtown, a second location in a similarly iconic Vegas destination, the Plaza Hotel & Casino, which dates to the Rat Pack era as well and is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. 

The Sand Dollar Downtown will be in a nearly 5,000 sq. ft. space adjacent to the Plaza’s casino floor. It plans to offer its full menu of craft cocktails with pizzas made by Pop Up Pizza at the Plaza. Live music, both local acts and other headliners, will take the stage in the evenings on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. 

“The Plaza is known for its vintage Vegas character and is proud to partner with a legendary Vegas venue like the Sand Dollar,” said Jonathan Jossel, CEO of the Plaza Hotel & Casino. “The opening of the Sand Dollar at the Plaza will create a late-night destination for live music unlike any other in downtown Las Vegas.”

This past weekend, Drai’s Beachclub • Nightclub welcomed superstars Juicy J, Big Sean and Nelly as they made their grand return to the Drai’s LIVE stage with their first live shows in more than a year. Delivering their biggest hits, plus special tributes to late legendary rappers Biz Markie and Nipsey Hussle, thousands of fans, including basketball stars Jalen Rose, Draymond Green, Josh Smith, Jayson Tatum, and Austin Daye came out to celebrate. 

Rapper and producer Juicy J kicked off the electrifying weekend on Friday, July 16 with a hits-packed setlist including fan-favorites like “Bounce It” and “Bandz Make Her Dance,” as well as his Grammy-nominated collaboration “Dark Horse” with Katy Perry and “Stay Fly” with Three 6 Mafia. Paying tribute to Biz Markie, the American rap legend who had passed away earlier that day, Juicy J performed his iconic hit, “Just A Friend.”

On Saturday, July 17, in his first-ever performance since the coronavirus shutdown, multi-platinum artist Big Sean had the crowd on their feet for his smash hits “Bounce Back,” “Wolves,” “Why Would I Stop?” and paid homage to the late, legendary Nipsey Hussle. Basketball stars Jalen Rose and Draymond Green came to Drai’s to witness Big Sean’s return to the stage.

To close out the weekend, best-selling rap artist Nelly gave an outstanding performance on Sunday, July 18. He performed hit after hit, including “Ride Wit Me,” “Hot in Here,” “Air Force Ones,” and “Country Grammar.” In another star-studded night for the world of basketball, the audience included NBA players Jason Tatum, Josh Smith and Austin Daye.

NOW Accepting Submissions! Summerlin Photography Competition

Starting July 19, the master-planned community of Summerlin® will accept submissions to its 2021 Summerlin Photography Competition, open to both professional and amateur photographers ages 18 and older. Submissions will be accepted through September 9 under the Event section at Summerlin.com. 

Winners will be announced and featured at the 2021 Summerlin Festival of Arts, October 9-10, at Downtown Summerlin®.  Winning photos may also be displayed at Downtown Summerlin throughout the year and will be used on Summerlin social media channels with credit given to photographers.  

Photographers are invited to submit photos in three categories:  architecture, man-made landscapes and natural landscapes within and immediately adjacent the community. To qualify, architectural and man-made landscapes as subject matter must be located within Summerlin; natural landscapes must be located in Summerlin or within the adjacent Red Rock Canyon National Conversation Area/Spring Mountain area. Vegas Will Soon Welcome New Downtown Film House & Performance Space The Beverly Theater

On the heels of the recent announcement of entertainment executive Kip Kelly being named Founding Creative Director, plans have been revealed for The Beverly Theater, a new independent film house and performance theater set to debut in downtown Las Vegas. The Lucy, The Writer's Block, and the fully funded theater, which breaks ground this fall, fulfills a nearly $30 million commitment to the arts on 6th street along by The Rogers Foundation and will make its debut in mid-2022.

The Beverly Theater will host independent film, music happenings, artistic performances, literary experiences, and educational programming seven days a week. The not-for-profit venue will be perfectly situated next to the popular independent bookstore, The Writer’s Block at The Lucy. The Beverly Theater will further catalyze creativity and enhance the already burgeoning cultural scene in Las Vegas. 


"My affinity for books and film is no secret but being a faithful supporter of the arts means making sure the community has what it needs to flourish, and that's the true motivation for this venue,” said Beverly Rogers, Chairman of the Board, The Rogers Foundation. “Developing a permanent home for independent film and artistic expression fills a void in Southern Nevada and we are thrilled to add yet another creative vessel to our humble little corner on 6th in downtown Las Vegas."


The two-story, 14,306 square-foot film house and performance theater will feature three distinct areas including the main theater, terrace, and courtyard, each thoughtfully designed and purposefully dialed-in to allow for unique content offerings and consistent programming. Additionally, The Beverly Theater will have an on-site box office, retail/concession space, fully loaded green room (affectionately named The Teddy), catering kitchen, and educational workspaces. 


“Uncommon…that’s the type of content we’re working hard to curate,” said Founding Creative Director Kip Kelly. “Our goal is to create a flurry of hand-crafted activity that attracts fans, elevates independent voices, and provides a safe creative space for cinema and the arts. Bringing a new theater to Las Vegas is an important responsibility and our program will be for the people. We have to get it right.”  

The main theater will feature raked seating of just over 150 seats resting on a retractable platform that can allow for expanded standing room capacity and convert the venue into a multi-purpose black box theater with the push of a button. Multiple lighting plots will allow the theater to be used in a variety of different ways and can be staged in multiple directions. With extraordinary emphasis on the film-watching experience, the 360 square-foot screen is coupled with a motorized cinema masking system and has been designed to maximize viewing angles from every seat in the house.  

Overlooking 6th Street, the terrace is strategically wired for audio and sound. Perfect for intimate performances, secondary cinema screening, and social happenings. The courtyard provides a more intimate space ideal for book clubs, educational gatherings, reading, working, coffee-drinking and more. 

Powered by Meyer Sound, Cirque theater's sound system of choice, The Beverly Theater will feature a custom audio experience with Constellation, a platform that integrates high-quality loudspeakers, microphones, digital processing, patented algorithms, and proprietary certification techniques in a flexible package.  This enables The Beverly Theater to transform its architectural acoustics with a finger tap, affording incomparable sonic flexibility. The Constellation system provides audiences with a robust surround cinema package, gives performers a microphone-free experience, and provides maximum flexibility for music performances, allowing multiple musical genres to enjoy the perfect acoustics for their performance. 

The Beverly Theater’s exceptional design is the work of Carpenter Sellers Del Gatto Architects.  Bringing the theater to life as general contractor will be Whiting-Turner Contracting Company.  Grand Canyon Development Partners will manage the construction process on behalf of the Foundation. 

The brainchild of namesake philanthropist Beverly Rogers, The Beverly Theater further underscores The Rogers Foundation’s ongoing commitment to supporting the arts.
