6th Annual Laps For Charity Coming Up At LVMS On 1/31

The sixth annual Laps for Charity fundraising event to benefit the Las Vegas Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities will take place at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday, Jan. 31, from 11 a.m.-7 p.m.

NASCAR fans and car enthusiasts will have the opportunity to drive their personal vehicles around the 1.5-mile superspeedway at speeds up to 75 miles per hour (behind a pace car), all in an effort to raise money for local children’s charities. Fans are invited to experience the thrill of a lifetime, driving their car, truck or motorcycle on the same track that the superstars of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will race on in the Kobalt 400 on March 6.

For the second year in a row, participants will have the opportunity to drive the track under the superspeedway’s lights from 5-7 p.m.

In addition, local media representatives will have the chance to drive on the superspeedway and interview SCC staff and guests at the annual Laps for Charity Media Day on Tuesday, Jan. 19. The media day begins at noon at the Richard Petty Driving Experience trailer on pit road, and media will be able to get a sneak peek at what Laps for Charity participants will experience two weeks later.

“Laps for Charity has become one of our most popular fundraising events of the year, and people just love having the chance to drive their vehicles on the superspeedway,” SCC Las Vegas Chapter Director Paulette Anderson said. “This is a great way for fans to see what it’s like to come out of turn four and head for the finish line at one of the country’s greatest race tracks. It’s all for charity, so they’re raising money for kids while having a blast doing it.”

Laps for Charity is open to all licensed drivers 18 years of age and older, and the entry fee is $35 per vehicle for three laps (three more laps are only $25). Those interested in driving under the lights can do so for four laps for $45 and may purchase an additional four laps for $30.

The vehicle must be street legal, and drivers must have a valid license and proof of insurance, and car clubs and company fleets are welcome to participate. All vehicle occupants must be at least 6 years of age.

Participants can have their picture taken in LVMS’s Victory Lane for an additional donation of $10. The event is first-come, first-served, reservations are not available and it will be held rain or shine.

Participants may pay in person in the LVMS infield on Sunday, Jan. 31. For more information, please call Paulette Anderson at (702) 917-6493 or e-mail SCC LV at panderson@lvms.com.

Laps for Charity is sponsored by Las Vegas Motor Speedway, The CW Las Vegas and News 3, Lotus Broadcasting, the Las Vegas Review-Journal and Big Valley Towing.

Making a difference in a child’s life is the focus of Speedway Children’s Charities. SCC strives to do this in collaboration with the nonprofit organizations it supports nationwide.|

Individually, SCC’s local chapters identify the needs of children in their communities and award grants to organizations that address them. Since its inception in 1999, Speedway Children’s Charities has granted nearly $3 million to local children’s causes.

Bouncing Back to Productivity After a Holiday Break!

Bouncing Back to Productivity After a Holiday Break

A much needed break from work, school and daily responsibilities is necessary to relax, recuperate and reset our minds during the holiday season. When these breaks come to an end, we often find ourselves struggling to regain focus, motivation and overall productivity. In order to regain concentration and recover from a long break, try these four tactics to start off the New Year as a more productive you.

Positive Mindset
As we settle back into our routines and get reacquainted with what can feel like mundane daily tasks, it’s easy to drift off into daydreams of the next holiday vacation. Instead of dreading the work day upon waking and later finding yourself unable to concentrate on your responsibilities, you must alter your thinking from the start of your day with the mindset that today is going to be good. When you change your outlook and adopt a mantra to take charge of how you feel each day, the little things that may normally bother you will affect you less.

Exercise
Holiday meals and desserts can leave you feeling lethargic and filled with guilt from unnecessary binging. A little known fact is that engaging in regular exercise can actually increase your productivity in the workplace. According to The Harvard Business Review, working out increases concentration and memory, heightens mental stamina, and reduces anxiety while releasing endorphins for a happier, more productive you.

Time Management
It’s important to return to work refreshed, focused and most importantly, organized and ready to pick up where you left off on projects and upcoming tasks. Simple tricks like keeping calendars updated, setting reminders on smart devices and using post-it notes and pads to jot down tasks and to-do lists can help you prioritize and stay on top of assignments.

Rest & Relaxation
Yes, it’s important to jump back into the swing of things and keep workplace energy levels up, but your daily energy is a direct result of the rest you are getting. Knowing when to unplug and unwind is crucial to getting an adequate amount of sleep. Weekend and evening relaxation can be spent at a spa, doing yoga or at a center offering massages or wellness tune-ups, like Orthology - www.orthology.com/, to help you keep stress levels low and a healthy mind, body and soul.

San Fran Fullback Bruce Miller Visits Vegas! Where?

San Francisco 49ers’ fullback, Bruce Miller was sighted at Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition inside Luxor Hotel and Casino on Wednesday, Jan. 6. Upon entry, the NFL star received a boarding pass of a real life passenger that boarded the Ship of Dreams. After taking the photo, Miller continued through the Exhibition, posing for another photo in front of “The Big Piece,” a 15-ton section of the Ship. The Year Of The Monkey Get's Limited Edition Menu At Hakkasan Restaurants!

This Chinese New Year, Hakkasan will celebrate the Year of the Monkey with a limited edition menu created by International Executive Chef Ho Chee Boon alongside an exclusive cocktail and dessert. Hakkasan restaurants around the world will continue to honour the Chinese wishing tree tradition inspired by the Lam Tsuen Wishing Trees in Hong Kong. During this auspicious time, guests will be invited to share their hopes for the coming year by writing their wishes on gold ribbons and hanging them in the restaurant. The wish collection and special menu will be available to guests from 22nd January through 22nd February.

The Chinese New Year menu showcases dishes that will bring joy, luck and prosperity in 2016. It begins with a Double boiled fresh Ginseng and chicken soup followed by Diced Wagyu beef and pine nut golden cup and a Dim sum platter. Main dishes include Wok-fry lobster in spicy truffle sauce, Pipa duck, Grilled Chilean seabass in honey and a Hericium mushroom stir-fry with lotus root, asparagus and lily bulb in black pepper and Dried scallop and crab meat fried rice.

To complete the festive meal, guests will enjoy a dessert and cocktail inspired by the Year of the Monkey. The Golden Halo dessert is a banana and peanut cake and a five spice infused cream, caramel, chocolate and peanut topped with gold leaf, while the 9 Hóu cocktail comprises nine components representing the monkey’s ninth position on the zodiac, including Bacardi Maestro de ron, sherry, banana liqueur and guava, and is decorated with a golden monkey cocktail stirrer.

Hakkasan will provide entertainment believed to bring good luck and fortune in the form of the Chinese lion dance. Performed on Thursday 4th February as part of the restaurant’s Chinese New Year celebration, lion troupes will make their way through the intimate latticed woodwork cages, offering symbolic expressions of luck, fortune, wisdom and joy.
