NOW! 5th Annual Blanket Drive To Help Nathan Adelson's Pet Therapy Program

Nathan Adelson Hospice’s Pet Therapy Program today announced its 5th Annual Dog Bed & Blanket Drive in support of animals at local shelters. The Pet Therapy Program, which comprises 14 trained therapy dogs, continues to help keep animals warm this season as the colder weather permeates the Las Vegas valley.

The Pet Therapy Program is under the Bonnie Schreck Memorial Complementary Therapies Program, which was created in 1999 as a means by which the hospice could provide a greater range of valuable therapies to patients. Patients and loved ones are able to request various therapies and techniques, such as pet therapy, reiki, reflexology, massage, and aromatherapy, to help ease discomfort by providing a calming and soothing environment. The goal is to provide the most effective, innovative and compassionate care possible. The Pet Therapy Program’s innovative strategy is designed to help improve the quality of life for hospice patients and has been one of the most successful therapies implemented thus far. It has been shown that spending time with a friendly animal can lift depression, lower blood pressure and respiratory rates, and bring comfort

From Jan. 4 through Feb. 28, 2016, all Nathan Adelson locations will serve as a drop-off point for new or gently used items including: dog beds; blankets; towels; wash cloths; linens; and unopened pet food.

The addresses are:
4141 Swenson St., Las Vegas; in the MountainView Medical Office Building
3150 N. Tenaya Way (near Cheyenne), Suite 350, Las Vegas

Lead Singer Ross Lynch W/Bassist Riker Lynch

Full Band

Pop powerhouse quintet R5 kicked off their New Year's concerts at The Venetian Las Vegas on Tuesday, Dec. 29. "Dancing with the Stars" fan favorite Mark Ballas opened the show with his newly formed band Alexander Jean, followed by an electrifying DJ set by R5 brother Ryland Lynch, which geared up the fans for a night of energizing hits from the pop rock sensations.

R5 performed in front of an enthusiastic crowd who sang along to their chart-topping hits such as "Smile," "Cali Girls," and "I Want You Bad." The concert was extra joyous because lead vocalist/rhythm guitarist Ross Lynch celebrated his 20th birthday in front of an audience of his most loyal fans.

"Welcome to my birthday party" exclaimed the heartthrob, before taking fans through a spirited set list which also included homages to Las Vegas favorites Frank Sinatra and The Killers.

Make Your RVPS's For The Oscar Dinner Series Coming Up On 1/28

Classic Vegas comes to life during the Oscar Dinner Series with former city of Las Vegas Mayor, Oscar B. Goodman. The next dinner on Thursday, Jan. 28 at 6:30 p.m., at Oscar’s steakhouse at the Plaza Hotel & Casino will feature Goodman speaking about “The Mark of Cain - The Nevada Black Book.”

At the Oscar Dinner Series, guests enjoy a gourmet three-course meal paired with red and white wines as well as the signature Oscar Goodman Martini while listening to Goodman discuss his extraordinary experiences as a criminal defense attorney that are hallmarks of Las Vegas’ unique and fascinating history.

Before becoming mayor of Las Vegas, Goodman represented many notorious Las Vegas figures, many who ended up listed in Nevada’s Black Book, the list of individuals barred by the Nevada Gaming Control Board from entering Nevada casinos. Goodman likens a listing in the Black Book to the curse of God on Cain for killing his brother, since “the only real way to get your name off the list is to die.” Over the course of his career, Goodman represented several individuals who were named in the Black Book, including Tony Spilotro, Frank Rosenthal and Tony Civella. On Jan. 28, Goodman will discuss his views on the Black Book, its constitutionality and the impact it had on his prior clients.

At its inception in 1960, Nevada’s Black Book, officially known as the Excluded Persons List, included 11 names, most added to the list because of their alleged affiliations to organized crime. Currently, there are 33 individuals on the Black Book list, most considered to be casino cheats.

To attend the Jan. 28 dinner, RSVP and pre-payment of $150 is required. To RSVP or for more information call 702-386-7227 or email RSVP@playlv.com.

Named after former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman, Oscar’s Beef ∙ Booze ∙ Broads steakhouse is a glamorous and uniquely Las Vegas steakhouse inside the iconic dome of the Plaza Hotel and Casino that overlooks the lights of Fremont Street and downtown Las Vegas. Oscar’s features perfectly aged steaks cooked over a 600 degree grill and accompanied by high-quality, made-from-scratch sides. Oscar’s also offers a wide variety of delicious, hand-crafted cocktails, including martinis, the former mayor’s signature drink. Reservations are recommended by calling 702-38-OSCAR or 702-386-7227.

Step Out And See A Flock Of Seagulls At The Suncoast

Legendary 1980s synth-pop rock group, A Flock of Seagulls, with original frontman Mike Score, will perform at the Suncoast Showroom Jan. 9.

Score, a former hairdresser, started A Flock of Seagulls with his brother Ali in Liverpool in 1979. They took the band’s name from a lyric in “Toiler on the Sea,” a song written by the popular ‘70s English punk-rock band The Stranglers.

In 1981, A Flock of Seagulls released its debut EP that featured the single “Telecommunication,” which became an underground hit on the European new-age club scene. In 1982, the band found success in the United States with its Billboard Hot 100 hit “I Ran (So Far Away).” The music video contributed to the band’s popularity, featuring Mike Score and what is now known as one of the most iconic hairstyles of the 1980s.

Following its Billboard debut, A Flock of Seagulls returned with its sophomore album “Listen” in 1983, which contained another Billboard Hot 100 hit “Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You).” In the same year, the band charted once again with the single “Space Age Love Song.”

Mike Score is pursuing a solo career in addition to touring as lead vocals and keyboardist for A Flock of Seagulls. He released the singles “All I Wanna Do” and “Somebody Like You,” from “Zeebratta,” his debut solo album that was released in March 2014.

Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $20 plus taxes and fees and can be purchased at any Boyd Gaming box office by calling 702.284.7777 or by visiting www.suncoastcasino.com.
