Jersey Boys & Local Charities Fulfill 4 Acts Of Kindness

Graham and Todd at Three Square
Jersey Boys At Opportunity Village

On December 16th, JERSEY BOYS Las Vegas concluded its fourth and final installation of its “Four Seasons of Kindness” campaign. The fall initiative, held in partnership with Sunny 106.5 and benefiting the Boys & Girls Clubs of S. Nevada, included a holiday drive which resulted in more than $10,000 worth of donations of new winter clothing for teen club members. The “Four Seasons of Kindness” campaign was a year-long initiative conducted in celebration of JERSEY BOYS becoming the longest-running Broadway production on the Las Vegas Strip and in thanks for the community’s continued support of the show.

Symbolic of the Four Seasons band members the production is based on, JERSEY BOYS partnered with four local charitable organizations throughout 2015 to fulfill four acts of kindness that positively impacted and contributed to the greater good of the Las Vegas community. JERSEY BOYS kicked off the year-long campaign by partnering with Opportunity Village for the winter season initiative and continued on with collaborations with Three Square Food Bank for spring, HELP of Southern Nevada for summer, and concluded with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada for fall.

The fourth and final act of kindness benefitting the Boys & Girls Clubs of S. Nevada wrapped yesterday with donations of more than $10,000 in new winter clothing for teen club members. Members of the JERSEY BOYS cast and Sunny 106.5 visited the Lied Campus to help distribute a portion of more than 1,000 winter clothing items donated to teens in need; the donations will be distributed amongst all 14 campus locations. Additionally, on Sunday, Dec. 13, members of JERSEY BOYS and Sunny 106.5 surprised the Figueroa family – long-time members of the Downtown Club location – at their home to provide some extra holiday cheer, including a Christmas tree from Star Nursery, gift cards to Brio Tuscan Grille and Eiffel Tower Restaurant, and tickets to see JERSEY BOYS at Paris Las Vegas. The Boys & Girls Clubs of S. Nevada work to provide more than 21,000 youth in Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson, Southern Highlands and Summerlin with equal access, hope and opportunity.

This past year, the “Four Seasons of Kindness” campaign in partnership with these well-deserving organizations has resulted in:

·         24,266: bottles of water donated by the community to HELP of Southern Nevada’s HELP20 campaign
·         10,000+: dollars of new winter clothing for teens donated by the Las Vegas community to the Boys & Girls Clubs of S. Nevada holiday drive
·         7,000: meals donated to Three Square Food Bank by JERSEY BOYS
·         3,240: “backpacks” packed by JERSEY BOYS cast members and volunteers with food for children at Three Square Food Bank
·         100: cases of water donated by JERSEY BOYS to HELP of Southern Nevada’s HELP20 campaign
·         10: OVIPs in attendance at the Opportunity Village night at JERSEY BOYS
·         8: family members who attend the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada whom JERSEY BOYS and Sunny 106.5 donated a surprise Christmas to

The smash-hit production, JERSEY BOYS, made its Las Vegas debut in May 2008 at The Palazzo prior to moving to its current home at the Paris Las Vegas. JERSEY BOYS became the longest-running Broadway production on the Las Vegas Strip in fall 2014, surpassing notable shows such as PHANTOM-THE LAS VEGAS SPECTACULAR and MAMMA MIA!

JERSEY BOYS is the #1 Rated Show in Las Vegas and the “Must see show of the year!” according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.  The musical phenomenon JERSEY BOYS, the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons at Paris Las Vegas is the runaway hit that has taken Las Vegas by storm.  JERSEY BOYS is the story of how a group of blue-collar boys from the wrong side of the tracks became one of the biggest American pop music sensations of all time. They wrote their own songs, invented their own sounds and sold 175 million records worldwide - all before they were thirty. The show features hits such as “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” “December, 1963 (Oh What a Night)” and many more.  Presented in Las Vegas at Paris Las Vegas, it is the same production fans all over the world have come to know and love.  For tickets or for more information on JERSEY BOYS, please visit www.JerseyBoysVegas.com.

UnitedHealthcare Gives The Gift Of Reading To LV Children

UnitedHealthcare donated books and activity worksheets to 100 Las Vegas-area schools today to encourage early literacy and spur students to continue reading over the holiday break.

Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman joined community leaders, UnitedHealthcare employees and educators for a reading circle as new books were presented to J.T. McWilliams Elementary School.

“Encouraging children to read at a young age is the stepping stone for success not only in school, but throughout their entire lives,” said Mayor Goodman. “These books will boost the students’ desires to read.”

Southwest Medical Associates (SMA) health clinics also received reading stations, children’s books and activity worksheets to help make visits to the doctor’s office a more enjoyable experience for children and their parents. Each reading station includes a kid-sized table and chairs, and copies of the UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation’s award-winning “Oliver & Hope” book series that delivers fun stories with engaging images, teaching subtle lessons about the power of friendship, resiliency and imagination. The worksheets, available in English and Spanish, include coloring pages and mazes, and provide children with fun educational activities.

“We want to make a trip to the doctor’s office a pleasant experience for families,” said Dr. Robert McBeath, president and CEO of Southwest Medical Associates. “With new reading stations, books and activity worksheets, the waiting room is now a place to inspire early reading and learning among children.”

According to the Children’s Reading Foundation, children become more proficient readers, and develop stronger minds and relationships when their parents read with them 20 minutes a day from birth through elementary school.

“In addition to proper brain development and preparing kids for success in school, reading is a fun, imaginative activity for children,” said Pat Skorkowsky, superintendent, Clark County School District. “This initiative provides excellent reading opportunities for children during school, in afterschool programs and outside of school.”

“We are grateful for the opportunity to donate these books and reading stations to help Las Vegas children succeed,” said Don Giancursio, CEO, UnitedHealthcare of Nevada. “Not only will this help with their future success, but it helps enrich their lives now and promotes healthy habits.”

The UHCCF books help raise money to support medical grants for children. Since 2007, UHCCF has awarded more than 10,000 grants valued at over $29 million to children and their families across the United States. Last year, UHCCF awarded medical grants worth an estimated $5.4 million to more than 2,000 children across the country. UHCCF’s funding is provided by contributions from individuals, corporations and UnitedHealth Group employees. UHCCF has created the award-winning Oliver & Hope series to raise funds for the foundation.

All three books of the “Oliver & Hope” series are available through uhccf.org/shop for $16.95 each. Proceeds from the books and plush toys from the series help fund the UHCCF grant program. More information about the “Oliver & Hope” books, including free audio recordings of the books as well as fun activities and downloads, can be found at Oliver & Hope’s Clubhouse at UHCCF.org.
