New Exhibit Coming To Shark Reef! See The Sea Monsters

The world’s largest exhibition of uniquely preserved sea creatures takes center stage on October 1 with the opening of Sea Monsters Revealed at Shark Reef Aquarium inside Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.

The use of a revolutionary polymer preservation technique, commonly known as plastination, allows the collection of once living aquatic creatures to be brought together on dry land. The process allows guests to see the outside and inside of some of the sea’s most magnificent inhabitants, including an 18-foot, 3,000-pound whale shark.

The exhibit also features a 15-foot-long mako shark and giant sunfish among its more than 18 full-body sea creatures. Additional displays include 150 individual organs and smaller specimens such as tropical fish, crustaceans and octopuses.

“For years, our guests have been fascinated and intrigued by the beautiful living creatures that call Shark Reef home,” said Adrienne Rowland, director of animal care at Shark Reef Aquarium. “Now, with this immersive and interactive experience, they can discover some of the ocean’s most exotic and elusive animals up close and personal, and in a whole new way.”

Located adjacent to Shark Reef Aquarium, Sea Monsters Revealed will provide locals and visitors alike with a greater understanding of the world’s oceans and how mankind’s interactions and conservation efforts are vital to the health and preservation of these beautiful animals.
The exhibit was developed through a partnership between BASE Entertainment and Dalian Hoffen Bio-Technique Co. and has been on display at some of North America’s most prestigious aquariums including the Georgia Aquarium, the Vancouver Aquarium and the Museum of Science & Industry in Tampa.

Sea Monsters Revealed opens to the public October 1 and runs through October 2016.

Sea Monsters Revealed will be open Sunday – Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – 8 p.m

15 Year Old Chris Trickle Wins At LVMS With Side By Side Battle To Finish Line!

Chris Trickle

On a night made for kids, it was only fitting that a pair of teenagers stole the show at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Saturday night.

Fifteen year-old Chris Trickle survived a spirited, four-lap, side-by-side battle with 17-year old Noah Gragson in the race’s closing laps to claim victory in the 50-lap Super Late Model feature that highlighted the annual Keith Danser Kids’ Candy Toss Night.

“It’s a miracle that we won this race,” Trickle said. “We didn’t practice Friday, and we have been close a lot this year. It really feels good to get this win.”

At the start of the evening, it appeared Trickle would run up front most of the night. He qualified third and quickly moved to second on the race’s first lap. But Trickle overdrove Turn 3 a few laps later and was passed by several cars as he dropped back to seventh. But a few drivers had mechanical issues and Trickle patiently picked off the remaining cars to work his way back through the field. On lap 37, Trickle drove under Dennis Rock Jr. for the lead and Gragson followed him through the hole. Two laps later, Stan Mullis stalled on the track and brought out the caution that set up the duel with Gragson.

“Once we got shuffled back, we had to fight, fight, fight to get back to the front,” Trickle said. “I knew if we could get out front and clear the other cars that we could drive away and win this, and that’s exactly what we did.”

While Trickle was celebrating in Victory Lane, points leader Scott Gafforini needed a tow back to the pits. The five-time track champion was forced out of the race with a blown engine just nine laps into the event. Rock’s second-place finish has tightened the points race with Gafforini heading into the season finale on Sept. 26.

In other racing action, Court Connell picked up his fourth Bomber victory, Peyton Saxton won in the USLCI Legends Cars, points leader Jason Kiser posted the win in Super Stocks, Ian Anderson recorded his eighth Thunder Cars win, R.J. Smotherman took home his 10th win in Bandolero Bandits and McKenzie Eshleman had her second win in Bandolero Outlaws.

NEXT RACE – Saturday, Sept. 26 – The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series continues with the championship points night as The Bullring will crown its 2015 season champions. The evening also will be Zero Teen Fatalities presents Clark County School District Night as hundreds of students from around the valley will be admitted free. There will be a full slate of racing on tap as drivers scramble for crucial points for the season-long points races.

The Bullring’s concession stand offers $2 hot dogs, $2 Coca-Cola products and $3 Budweiser beer on each NASCAR Whelen All-American Series race night. For more information on all events at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, please visit www.LVMS.com and follow LVMS on Facebook and Twitter.

New Mobile Game "SPLATTERZONE" Debuts!

Sirc Michaels Productions has teamed up with Lightwood Games to create SPLATTER ZONE, a mobile game that takes the campy humor of Las Vegas' EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL and combines it with the the challenge of addicting puzzle games.

Capturing the spirit of a live stage show in an app can be a challenge, and it took months of development and testing for the game to go from concept to reality.

"We'd been working with Lightwood Games for some time on this," said director and producer Sirc Michaels. "It had to be the right amount of fun gameplay as well as the humor fans have come to expect from us as well as a lot of blood."

The game itself is a puzzle game where players are shown pictures from the show and asked to find the differences between them. As the players search for the differences, the evil forces from the Necronomicon get closer and closer, with one of the character's innards being pulled across the screen. If the players don't find all the differences in time, they lose. If they pass the level, they move on to the next.

Included in the app are also details about the Las Vegas stage show including a link to the site where tickets to the show can be obtained.

"We are very proud to be a part of this project," continued Sirc Michaels, and I look forward to feedback from the fans about the game."

SPLATTER ZONE can be downloaded for IPhone and Android at these links:

IPhone Users: 4lwg.com/evildead

Android Users: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.lightwood.SplatterZone

Endorsed by Bruce Campbell and embraced by Sam Raimi, EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL is the official live stage show of the cult classic film trilogy. This award-winning production has been thrilling Las Vegas audiences since October of 2011. The show "slays" nightly at the V Theater inside Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. Support Our Community! "Better Blocks Live" Pop Event Coming Up

Urban Land Institute (ULI), in partnership with Hope Home Foundation and Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtor’s Commercial Alliance (CALV), the National Association of REALTORS®, Clark County and the city of Las Vegas, have collaborated on a smart growth project called “Better Blocks Live.”  Funded in part by a Smart Growth Action Grant from CALV and the National Association of REALTORS, the group plans to bring alive the southwest corner of Sahara Ave. and Decatur Blvd. with a series of events and activations, Sept. 19-20.  The goal of the weekend pop-up is two-fold: demonstrate the area’s potential to local businesses, developers and real estate brokers; and collect information from surrounding residents and neighborhoods to better understand their needs and desires to help identify redevelopment strategies moving forward.

According to Dr. Robert Fielden, co-chair of the ULI Smart Growth committee and event visionary, “Better Blocks Live” will reimagine the busy corridor with fun and engaging activities like a pancake breakfast hosted by Spicy Camel Trading Company, a farmers’ market, dog adoptions, bicycle parade, cultural performances,  magicians, musicians, Urban Eggs and Art sponsored by the Boys and Girls Club of Southern Nevada, along with a variety of free and for-purchase food options, including a hot dog giveaway.  “This area was once THE place to shop and dine in Las Vegas,” said Dr. Fielden.  “The potential is there, and our goal is help visualize it for the local business, development and real estate communities.  We want this area to regain its vibrancy while evolving to better meet the needs of the immediate neighborhoods.”

Hope Home Foundation will host a home fair in an empty retail space to offer area residents information on down payment assistance programs, low interest loans and affordable housing options. And event organizers will host a live charrette to gather information from attendees regarding the kinds of services and businesses they would like to see in their neighborhood. According to Dawn Lane, CEO, Hope Home Foundation, the goal of this event is to raise awareness for small business opportunity, healthy living, education, housing, smart growth and technology.  “It’s a tall order, but we have to start somewhere, and this is the perfect way to get residents involved in bettering their neighborhood,” she said.

In addition to event organizers, confirmed sponsors and partners include Evergreen Home Loans, NV Energy, Southern Nevada Water Authority, Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada, RMS Mortgage, Costco and Sam’s Club.
