LOL! "Queen Of Comedy" Sommore Will Perform At The Suncoast 7/10 & 7/11

The “Queen of Comedy” Sommore brings her stand-up comedy act to the Suncoast Showroom, July 11 and 12.

Equally classy and sassy, Sommore’s frank, fearless routines and controversial wit have garnered loyal fans worldwide. Among the top-grossing stand-up comedians in the U.S. and abroad, Oprah Winfrey proclaimed her “a force to be reckoned with in the new millennium.”

New Jersey native Sommore began her career as the first woman to host BET’s ”Comic View,” later hosting Russell Simmons’ “Def Comedy Jam” and “Showtime at the Apollo.” In 2000, she entered “The Guinness Book of World Records,” performing for an audience of more than 50,000 people in Atlanta, Ga. as part of the “Queens of Comedy” tour.  The recording of the show became the longest-running and highest-rated special in the history of Showtime Networks.  She is the 1995 recipient of the Richard Pryor Award for Comic of the Year.

Sommore’s film credits include roles in “Soul Plane,” “Friday After Next” and “Something New.”  She also graced the small screen, appearing on “Flavor of Love,” as a regular on “1 vs. 100” and competing for the winning team on season six of “Celebrity Fit Club.”  Her comedy specials “The Queen Stands Alone” (Comedy Central, 2008) and “Chandelier Status” (Showtime Networks, 2012) earned rave reviews. In 2014, she guest starred in an episode of VH1’s television series “Hit the Floor.”

Have You Been To The Utah Shakespeare Festival? Say Goodbye To The Adams Theater!

The Utah Shakespeare Festival says a fond farewell to the historic Adams Shakespearean Theatre at the end of this summer. Next season, 2016, will usher in a whole new audience experience at the Festival with the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Center of the Arts and the Engelstad Shakespeare Theatre. However, before the lights dim forever in the Adams Theatre, the Festival has planned celebrative activities throughout the season. Patrons can come and experience all the magic the Adams has to offer as well as say goodbye.

“For over forty years this wonderful ‘wooden O’ has provided the blank page for us to tell a thousand dreams,” said Festival Founder Fred C. Adams. “She has sat through snow storms, wild winds and pelting rains, waiting patiently for world class directors and designers to bring her to life each spring with creative ideas and just the right amount of magic. She now serves as the inspiration for a new and exciting youngster to pick up the torch and carry the Festival to new and brighter heights.”

The complete list of activities is below. More information is available at our website, www.bard.org.

Most pieces are on sale, with proceeds going to the artist and the Utah Shakespeare Festival.

Video Tribute to the Adams Theatre
A video tribute has been commissioned to highlight the memories and history of the Adams Shakespearean Theatre. The video can be seen in the Auditorium Theatre lobby and online.

The Greenshow
The Festival will once again have three different Greenshow’s this year; Irish Night, English Night, and Italian Night. English Night will conclude with a touching song about the Adams Shakespearean Theatre and the stories we have shared inside the Wooden O. The Greenshow is free and begins at 7:10p from Monday to Saturday on The Greenshow stage.

Try An Asian Fusion Taco! NOW In July At Mercadito!

This July, Chef Rodelio Aglibot, known as “The Food Buddha,” brings enlightenment to taco creation at Mercadito at Red Rock Resort as part of Mercadito Hospitality’s national Tacos for Strength campaign.  Throughout the month of July, Mercadito features an Asian fusion approach to Mercadito’s ongoing list of unique taco recipes.  Las Vegans can indulge in a multicultural approach to tacos with “The Food Buddha’s Pastrami Kung Pao Style Taco” during dinner for $16.50 (four per order).  A percentage of the proceeds will benefit Share Our Strength.

For July, Chef Rodelio Aglibot unveils his Pastrami Kung Pao Taco – diced pastrami, red bell peppers, white onions and sliced scallions seasoned and caramelized with Kung Pao Sauce, topped with crushed roasted peanuts and julienne celery leaves on a flour tortilla. Aglibot’s original Kung Pao Sauce comprises of chicken stalk, soy sauce, sugar, minced garlic, oyster sauce, black vinegar, fish sauce, sambal oelek, chili oil and chili flakes to add its unique kick.

This taco melds together traditional Mexican cuisine with Asian inspirations.   “Bringing my heritage to the way I approach cooking food from all over the world always aids in my creative recipe development,” said Rodelio Aglibot.  “Because my parents were my first culinary mentors, it’s important for me to incorporate my Asian roots. In the end, it makes for interesting multicultural dishes.”

Raised in Hawaii, Chef Rodelio Aglibot continues to take inspiration from both his island roots and Filipino heritage. In 2001, Aglibot served as executive chef of Koi Restaurant in Los Angeles. After two years as executive chef at Koi, Aglibot created Yi Cuisine led by his own creative concepts, which Food & Wine magazine named one of the “Best New Asian Restaurants.” By fall 2006, Aglibot helped see the Sunda New Asian restaurant in Chicago to fruition by spring 2009 and oversaw its culinary program until 2011. In the midst of overseeing Sunda’s culinary program, Aglibot partnered with BLT Restaurant Group in New York to create a new Asian Gastropub and served as corporate executive chef beginning in 2010. During this partnership, Aglibot guided 15 restaurants in the United States and took on the responsibility of all new concepts opening under BLT’s flagship.

In 2011, The Learning Channel (TLC) premiered Aglibot’s new show “The Food Buddha,” chronicling Aglibot’s dedication to his heritage and creative menu development. Aglibot has appeared on a number of national and local television news and talk shows such as the “TODAY Show” and “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” Today, Aglibot serves as Vice President of Culinary Operations for the lifestyle hospitality company Interestco, LLC. Aglibot lives by his own philosophy. He states, “A tragedy in life is not to find oneself and one’s passion…an even greater tragedy is to know one’s passion and deny oneself of its treasures.” His food style has been described as unpretentious and his knowledge of ingredients and food traditions are unique to his cooking style.

Each month, chef and owner Patricio Sandoval invites a different chef to “think outside the tortilla” and create a taco inspired by their culinary or personal passions, which will be served in all Mercadito restaurants with a portion of proceeds going to Share Our Strength. Since its inception, Tacos for Strength has sold more than 5,000 tacos and raised thousands of dollars to benefit Share Our Strength.

Mercadito is open seven days a week.  Dinner and late-night dining: Mondays 3 – 10 p.m.; Tuesdays – Thursdays 3 p.m. to 11pm; Fridays 3 p.m. – midnight; Saturdays 11 a.m. – midnight; and Sundays 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. Mercadito brunch service is 11a.m. – 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.  Mercadito also offers two daily Happy Hours 3 – 6 p.m. daily and 8 – 10 p.m. Sunday and Monday; 9 – 11 p.m. Tuesday – Thursday; and 10 p.m. – midnight Friday and Saturday. Reservations are recommended through Open Table or by calling 702.979.3609. Mercadito is located at Red Rock Resort at 11011 W. Charleston Blvd.

Rare Picasso Photograph Now On View At Jeff Mitchum Galleries

Four rare portraits of Pablo Picasso as well as an additional group portrait, which all offer glimpses into the artist’s private life at the end of World War II, are now available at Jeff Mitchum Galleries. Shot by the late Richard Ham, the collection of portraits titled “Three Visits with Picasso” were taken by the young war photographer in the fall of 1944 to help garner positive admiration for the artist whose work had been labeled “decadent” by the Germans. With few photographs of Picasso during the War in existence, Jeff Mitchum Galleries is thrilled to display and offer the exclusive images in both their Las Vegas galleries inside Bellagio and MGM Grand.

“It’s amazing that such iconic and personal portraits of the world’s most recognized artist, Pablo Picasso, were hidden from the world for so long,” said renowned photographer Jeff Mitchum. “To exclusively represent Ham’s collection, not only does it make me feel a tremendous responsibility to preserve art and world history, but I am honored to make the artist proofs available to those who admire Picasso’s work and life.”

During his three visits, Ham had the pleasure of not only photographing Picasso in his secret studio, but engaging in conversations about different artists of the time, learning about his thoughts on the war, and sharing a lunch of tomato sandwiches. When Ham arrived for the final meeting and shared the portraits with Jean Cocteau, Picasso’s lifelong friend, he was told by a translator, “Mr. Cocteau thinks that these are the best shots of Picasso he has ever seen.”

Photographs of Picasso during the War are extremely hard to find, especially professional shots in such pristine condition, because few people knew of his whereabouts. The Germans had a dislike for Picasso’s political views such as those expressed in his painting “Guernica.” Therefore, he tended to keep a quiet profile and lived in seclusion. Now, more than 70 years later, these rare photographs will once again be on display and available to the public at Jeff Mitchum Galleries.

The portraits of Picasso come at a fortuitous time as Jeff Mitchum Galleries, Bellagio, is located next door to the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Arts, which is concurrently opening “Picasso – Creatures and Creativity.” Guests of the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Arts can exit through Jeff Mitchum Galleries and view these stunning portraits to complete their Picasso experience.

For more information about the portraits of Picasso offered at Jeff Mitchum Galleries, contact either the Bellagio or MGM Grand gallery or email PicassoPortraits@JeffMitchum.com. Collectors or anyone interested in learning more about Richard Ham’s “Three Visits with Picasso” can read the galleries’ booklet available for download here.

Gordie Brown Invites Fellow Canadians To See Show For FREE!

Gordie Brown is celebrating “The True North strong and free” on Canada Day at The Golden Nugget Las Vegas with a very special deal for his fellow Canadians: free tickets during the month of July. Guests that present a valid Canadian ID to The Golden Nugget Las Vegas box office will receive a complimentary pair of tickets to the show.

“Although I am in Las Vegas, I am celebrating Canada Day in full force,” said Gordie. “My Canadian audiences have always been good to me and now, I’d like to do something special for them.”

Gordie was born and raised in Montreal, Canada. While working as a political cartoonist for the Ottawa Sunday Herald, his co-workers entered him in a talent contest in which he took first place. Having caught the entertainment bug, he moved to Las Vegas with nothing more than what could fit in a suitcase and the goal of working with fellow Canadians Paul Anka and Rich Little. The gamble paid off; in less than two years, Gordie was opening for both Anka and Little, as well as other stars including Jay Leno, Louie Anderson, Kenny Rogers, Randy Travis, Barry Manilow, and Jerry Seinfeld.

Gordie Brown’s headlining show at The Golden Nugget Las Vegas combines energetic live music, comedy, and Gordie’s signature impressions in a show that has earned him several accolades, including “Entertainer of the Year,” “Best Comedian,” and “Best Entertainer.”

Gordie Brown performs Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday (dark July 4-12) in the state-of-the-art Gordie Brown Showroom at The Golden Nugget Las Vegas. For complimentary tickets to the show during the month of July, guests must present a valid, government-issued Canadian Driver’s License of Passport to The Golden Nugget Las Vegas box office. Tickets to the show can be purchased at www.goldennugget.com or by calling (866) 946-5336.

Female Fans Line Up To Take Selfies With Madame T.'s Channing Tatum

“Magic Mike XXL” Fans Line Up To Take Selfies With Madame Tussauds Las Vegas’ Channing Tatutum For Red Carpet Screening

At the preview of the hotly anticipated summer stripper movie, "Magic Mike XXL," fans got up close and personal to snap selfies with Madame Tussauds Las Vegas' Channing Tatum wax figure. Fans showed up to see the movie's leading man for themselves and be the first to see the new flick.
Throughout the evening, the fans posed and took photos with Tatum's wax figure on the red carpet. He was dressed in a dark suit and tie which the ladies tugged and pulled at. (Sorry ladies, no breakaway pants this time.) Fans marveled at the figure with comments ranging from, "Wow, he is so lifelike" to being "obsessed with him." Another fan even asked the team if they could look away for a moment so she "could run out to her car and stuff him in the backseat."

Fans can search for their photos with Tatum at www.Facebook.com/MadameTussaudsLasVegas.
A team of 20 Madame Tussauds artists was responsible for crafting the wax figure of Tatum based from over 300 precise body measurements. In order to create a lifelike wax figure, the figure is first sculpted in clay and is then covered in plaster. Wax is then poured in and cooled off. Finishing details include acrylic teeth; head and facial hair that are individually inserted, and layers of acrylic paint are applied to build up his skin tone.
