Comedy’s loveable Queen of Mean returns to the Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort on Saturday, Jan. 14, at 8 p.m.

Heralded as "more than a standup -- a standout,” by comedy legend Jim Carrey, Lisa Lampanelli is a cross between Don Rickles, Archie Bunker and a vial of estrogen. She has won accolades from The King of All Media Howard Stern, who called her "a true original and a brilliant comedy mind who'll steal the show every time."  Known for saying things that most people are afraid to think, Lampanelli's raunchy, gut-busting performances are wildly popular at theaters across the U.S. and Canada. She recently appeared in her latest one-hour special “Tough Love,” which premiered on Comedy Central and is now available on CD/DVD. Continuing her rise, Logo television has recently given a green light to developing “Big Loud Lisa” - the unscripted series to be produced by Chelsea Handler’s production company. The show will follow Lampanelli in standup as she juggles her recent marriage with her life on the road. She is also currently working on a one-woman show for Broadway with plans to debut in 2012. Hitting the big screen, Lampanelli will appear in a David Chase-directed feature film (yet to be titled), scheduled for release in October 2012.

Lampanelli’s rise to the top of the comedy food chain began in 2002 when she was the only female comedian invited to skewer Chevy Chase on the NY Friars Club Roast on Comedy Central. She soon became known as the “Queen of the Roast” with roasts of such names as Pamela Anderson, Jeff Foxworthy, William Shatner, Flava Flav and most recently, David Hasselhoff. Because of her success as a roaster, in 2009 Lampanelli was asked to be Roastmaster for the highly rated Comedy Central roast of friend and fellow comic, Larry the Cable Guy. Lampanelli joined the ranks of comedy greats with her 2009 HBO comedy special, "Long Live the Queen,” and that same year, released her first autobiography, Chocolate, Please: My Adventures in Food, Fat and Freaks.

This month, RagTag Entertainment and Onyx Theatre join forces once again with a live stage production unlike anything local theater has seen: a non-musical that’s all about the music. Listen runs for two weekends, with performances on November 18, 19, 25, and 26 at 8 p.m.

Local playwright Dave Surratt’s original full-length dramatic comedy puts audiences in the troubled mind of Ben, an obsessive young cancer biologist and audiophile committed to the healing power of music — much to the chagrin of his boss, an old-school scientist convinced that Ben’s sound therapy does more harm than good. When the demands of a headstrong new girlfriend, an overbearing best pal, and a clingy, eccentric young patient on borrowed time all pile themselves on, Ben looks for answers in the music — everything from ragtime to rock, techno to tone therapy — even if those answers aren’t what he expects.

Listen is expanded from a short piece written and performed for the 2010 Photo Plays at Katherine Gianaclis Park for the Arts, and features the formidable acting talents of Vegas stage veterans Erik Amblad, Thomas Chrastka, Breon Jenay, Candice McCallum and Drew Yonemori. The production is directed by Surratt, an ex-Las Vegas CityLife theater critic who has spent the last two years writing, acting, directing and producing for local live theater events.

Kris Kristoferson Performing at The Orleans Showroon..11/25 & 11/26

Actor, musician and songwriter Kris Kristofferson brings his award-winning talents to The Orleans Showroom, November 25 and 26 at 8 p.m.

Signed to his first record deal in 1967, Kristofferson has released 30 singles and more than a dozen albums. He won his first Grammy® award in 1971 for “Help Me Make it Through the Night” as Best Country Song and went on to win Grammys in 1973 and 1975 for “Best Country Vocal Performance By A Duo or Group” for his collaborations with Rita Coolidge. 

Throughout the years, many Kristofferson-penned songs were hit singles, including “Me & Bobby McGee” by Janis Joplin; “From the Bottle to the Bottom” by Billy Walker & the Tennessee Walkers; and “Once More with Feeling” by Jerry Lee Lewis. Kristofferson is a member of the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame and the Nashville Songwriter’s Hall of Fame. 

In 1971, Kristofferson made the transition to cinema, starring in “The Last Movie.” Five years later, he won a Golden Globe® for Best Actor for his role in “A Star is Born,” in which he co-starred with Barbra Streisand.
