Gemini and Apollo Astronauts Land at Crystals at CityCenter For Public Event Oct. 21

Clark County students and community invited to panel discussion on space travel

Astronauts from the landmark Gemini and Apollo NASA programs will touch down at Crystals at CityCenter Friday, Oct. 21 for the Speedmaster Forum Series hosted by OMEGA WATCHES U.S. and Crystals’ Tourbillon boutique.

The astronauts will share personal accounts of their space explorations and discuss how Tourbillon’s OMEGA Speedmaster watch, the official timepiece of NASA, is used during missions to time the space shuttle’s descent back into the Earth’s atmosphere.

Fifty students from Rancho High School’s pilot training and aerospace engineering magnet program and 50 students from Bridger Middle School’s aerospace and aviation magnet program will have front-row “cockpit” seats for the discussion.

Prior to the event, students will have a chance to meet the astronauts, receive autographed images and view an out-of-this-world exhibit showcasing the NASA Lunar Rover used during all six lunar expeditions; an Apollo 10 spacesuit; the Mars Rover; and the OMEGA Speedmaster, the first and only timepiece to travel to the moon.

The community is invited to attend the event to celebrate the accomplishments of these American heroes and learn about their contributions to the nation’s most iconic space missions.

Famous Football former player Randy Moss in Vegas!! Where ?

 Former New England Patriots wide receiver and four-time All-Pro selection Randy Moss and a group of friends dined at Martorano’s at Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino on Sunday, Oct. 16, enjoying a night of great food and fun. The group ordered many signature dishes by well-known cook Steve Martorano, including the homemade raviolis and the famous mozzarella stacked. Moss and his entourage also had a good laugh when scenes from the 1989 classic comedy Harlem Nights came on the flat screens inside the restaurant. Before leaving, Moss autographed the Steve Martorano poster, signing it “To Cuz, thanks for blessing us with this, God Bless. Randy Moss – Much Love.”

Fantasy Headliner Lorena Peril deliver national anthem for LA Kings home opener!

 Lorena Peril, star of FANTASY, sang a powerful rendition of the national anthem for the L.A. Kings home opener against the St. Louis Blues. 

Before the singer took center stage in the rink, hyped fans greeted her including an attendee that recognized her saying, “Are you that girl from FANTASY in Las Vegas?” questioned the devoted fan. “We saw your show a couple of weeks ago. Can we get a picture?” The flattered vocalist posed for photos, signed autographs and hugged fans followed by taking a moment to herself before entering the ice. Dressed in a classy, fitted black dress Peril gave an outstanding performance as the energy inside the stadium soared from the players and enthusiastic hockey fans cheering to the start of the new season. Following her flawless ballad, Peril cheered on the Kings leading to their five-to-zero shutout victory over the Blues.

Speedway Children's Charities Poker Tournament on 10/27! It's for the kids!

Speedway Children’s Charities poker tournament Oct. 27 at the Stratosphere Casino Hotel & Tower

     

The Las Vegas Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities will host its eighth annual Cards for Kids Texas Hold ‘em Poker Tournament on Thursday, Oct. 27 from 6-10 p.m. at the Stratosphere Casino Hotel & Tower.

Race fans invited to participate and play poker against their favorite NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series drivers. Funny Car star Jack Beckman, Top Fuel pilot Brandon Bernstein and Pro Stock champion Greg Anderson were among the first to sign up to play.

 The tournament will have a maximum of 100 players and participants are urged to register as soon as possible. All players must be at least 21 years of age to compete. The top nine players will receive a percentage of the purse and first place will pay $1,400.

Spectators are welcome to watch the tournament and enjoy food and drinks for a $25 donation to SCC. A raffle and silent auction also will be held and all players and spectators will have many opportunities throughout the evening to win prizes donated from valley business owners.

 The annual event is sponsored by the Stratosphere Casino Hotel & Tower, Nevada Beverage Co. and Budweiser.

Making a difference in a child’s life is the focus of Speedway Children’s Charities. SCC strives to do this in collaboration with the non-profit organizations it supports nationwide. Individually, SCC’s local chapters identify the needs of children in their communities and award grants to organizations that address them. Last December, The Las Vegas Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities granted $255,000 to 44 local children’s causes.
