Jersey Boys Fashion Show to benefit HELP of Southern NV! Mad Men style!

JERSEY BOYS will take their moves from the stage to the runway in an interactive fashion show event to benefit HELP of Southern Nevada on Sunday, October 2 on the runway at Fashion Show. The event will consist of a clothing drive, fashion show, prize raffle and exclusive meet and greet with JERSEY BOYS cast members. Emceed by KLAS-TV news anchor Dayna Roselli, the event kicks off at 2:00 p.m. with a retro-inspired fashion show followed by the meet and greet with cast members.  The afternoon with JERSEY BOYS will conclude at 4:00 p.m. with a raffle of exciting prizes. Clothing drive donations will be accepted beginning at noon

“We are pleased to partner with HELP of Southern Nevada and Fashion Show for this event,” says JERSEY BOYS Producer Michael David. “JERSEY BOYS has gratefully been embraced by the Las Vegas community over the past three and a half years and this event is but one small way for us to give back to those in need.”

Cast members from JERSEY BOYS will model the latest looks from Banana Republic’s “Mad Men” collection on the runway. Following the fashion show, the cast will be available for an exclusive meet and greet for participants of the clothing drive. Guests will have the opportunity to meet, take photographs and receive autographs from cast members.

Guests can bring new or gently used clothing donations to the event to benefit HELP of Southern Nevada’s “Career Closet” and HELP’s Shannon West Youth Center. Donations for professional clothing including suits, dress pants, shirts and dress shoes for both men and women will be kindly accepted.  Warm clothing donations for youth ages 16 – 21 including jackets, sweaters, hooded sweatshirts and socks are also encouraged and accepted.

“This event is coming at a critical time for HELP of Southern Nevada,” says Abby Quinn, community outreach manager of HELP of Southern Nevada. “As the colder months are approaching, we have a much greater need for warm clothing for the youth. We also have hundreds of clients who are currently looking for work and having nice, professional clothing helps them to put their best foot forward.”

For every appropriate item donated, guests will receive one raffle ticket for a chance to win exciting prizes. There will not be a limit on the donations accepted; however raffle tickets will be limited at five per guest.  Donations must be received by 3:45 p.m. to receive a raffle ticket. More than 15 amazing prizes will be given away, including the Grand Prize package of two Orchestra tickets to JERSEY BOYS, a one-night stay at The Palazzo Resort-Hotel-Casino and dinner for two. Other prizes include an additional ten pair of JERSEY BOYS tickets and restaurant and retailer gift certificates from Fashion Show, The Shoppes at the Palazzo and The Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian. Winners must be present to win.

BUSH and Chevelle at The Joint tonight

Grammy-nominated alternative rock band Bush experienced early success with the release of its debut album Sixteen Stone in 1994. The album sold more than 10 million albums, quickly securing Bush as one of the top rock bands in the United States. Their latest project, The Sea of Memories, is developed on the notion that one has to know where they came from to know where they’re going. Playing on the themes and sounds of early albums Sixteen Stone and The Science of Things, The Sea of Memories returns to the band’s roots making it the first indie project for Bush since the early 1990s.

Chicago-based trio Chevelle is set to release its fifth studio album Sci-Fi Crimes on Thursday, Sept. 1 including new single “Jars,” which entered the Top 20 two weeks after its release.

Bodies the Exhibition goes Pink! Support, Create Awareness for Breast Cancer!

Throughout the entire month of October, BODIES… The Exhibition offers pink-clad Nevada residents a complimentary audio tour with the purchase of admission to the Exhibition in an effort to educate and raise awareness for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Whether it’s a pink shirt, pink tie or a pair of pink socks, the Exhibition wants to share what’s inside the miraculous body with the hope that guests walk away feeling empowered and motivated to create positive lifestyle changes that may save their life.

According to Susan G. Komen’s website, the following lifestyle factors affect breast cancer risk:

Among American women, an estimated 230,480 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in 2011.
Being overweight before menopause decreases a woman’s risk; however, after menopause the risk increases by 30 to 60 percent.
Research compiled from 53 different studies showed that for every one alcoholic drink consumed per day, the risk of breast cancer increased approximately seven percent. Women who have two to three drinks per day have a 20 percent greater risk.
As a whole, evidence shows that regular exercise appears to lower breast cancer risk by approximately 20 percent. Furthermore, regular exercise after diagnosis increases overall survival among breast cancer survivors. This may be due to the positive mood and improved physical condition and movement that regular exercise promotes, which can enhance quality of life.

Described as a “life-changing experience,” BODIES…The Exhibition is one of the most fascinating and educational experiences in Las Vegas. The real human bodies have been meticulously dissected, preserved through an innovative process and respectfully presented, giving visitors the opportunity to view the beauty and complexity of their own organs and systems like never before. In addition to providing an up-close look inside our skeletal, muscular, respiratory and circulatory systems, the Exhibition encourages healthy lifestyle choices.  Authentic human specimens illustrate the damage caused to organs by drinking, smoking, over-eating and lack of exercise.

To receive a complimentary audio tour, guests must purchase tickets to the Exhibition, wear an outwardly visible piece of pink clothing and show their Nevada ID at the box office. Regularly priced tickets are $32 for adults, $30 for seniors, $24 for children 4 – 12 years of age and $29 for locals. The Exhibition is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. with last admission at 9 p.m. It is recommended that children 12 and under are accompanied by a teacher or parent as an adult guide. For additional information or to reserve tickets by phone, call 800-557-7428 or 702-262-4400.

Love Art? Martin Lawrence Gallery opening at The Forum Shops

They say everything is bigger in Las Vegas, and the team from Martin Lawrence Galleries took that statement literally by building and opening what just may be the  biggest art gallery in the United States in the heart of The Forum Shops at Caesars.  With more than 26,000 square feet of gallery, exhibition and event space, the new Martin Lawrence Galleries is a masterpiece unto itself.  It has soaring 80 foot ceilings to a 20-foot tall neon “ART” sign to huge “guillotine” walls that can be raised and lowered to feature special exhibitions to an enormous projection wall and booming sound system. Both the physical space and the amazing art will be sure to awe and inspire.

In addition to the main gallery area, there will soon be a spectacular exhibition/event space which will become home to Las Vegas’ premiere art events, one-of-a-kind art exhibitions and distinctive pairings of fashion, food and entertainment with the exciting world of art.  “We couldn’t be more excited about bringing our collections, our artists and our international expertise to Las Vegas,” explains Gallery Director, Stacie Goulet.  “We have been looking for the right space for many years, and when we saw this amazing location within The Forum Shops, we knew we had to create a very special gallery space.  We didn’t build it big just for the sake of being big.  We wanted to showcase a range of art and artists that would appeal to the novice as well as to the collector – that is what Martin Lawrence Galleries is all about.  Whether you are looking for a unique Warhol or Chagall or  signed limited edition prints by one of our exclusive artists such as Philippe Bertho, Robert Deyber, Felix Mas or Erté, you can find it in our gallery.”

Accessible and inviting, The Martin Lawrence Galleries in The Forum Shops was created to enable the guest to discover and enjoy art around every turn.  With its soaring ceilings, bright lights, incredible music soundscape and visual arts projected on the main back wall, walking through the gallery is an escape from the sights and sounds of the Strip just beyond, but at the same time, just as exciting to experience.  With a range of art that spans the spectrum from the hundreds of dollars to the millions of dollars, and features everything from original works by Picasso and Warhol to hand-signed serigraphs  by Erté and Robert Deyber,  the Martin Lawrence Galleries brings art to a new level for both Las Vegas residents and tourists alike.

“While the gallery space has already exceeded our expectations, we cannot wait to open the next phase of the gallery,” adds Ms. Goulet.  “There is truly nothing like it in Las Vegas or maybe anywhere.  We are creating a place where art will take center-stage as only it can in Las Vegas.  With over 13,500 square-feet of additional space, its size  and scope will allow us to bring events and exhibitions which will not be seen elsewhere, as well as allow us to showcase work of brilliant magnitude.  We want to get extremely creative and work with our neighbors here in The Forum Shops, Caesars Palace, The Colosseum and the community to create amazing evenings where art will wrap itself within the worlds of fashion, food and entertainment.”

Martin Lawrence Galleries is located near the Atlantis Fountain Show and Aquarium. Hours are 10 a.m.  - 11 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m.midnight on weekends. For more information, contact 702-991-5990. Upcoming events at the gallery include an exhibit with Martin Lawrence exclusive artist Robert Deyber on October 14th and 15th, and a spectacular Erte exhibition on December 1st.
