Gene Simmons at The Bellagio.."The Two Biggest names in Heavy Metal!"

Gene Simmons hosted the annual Weldbend /IPD Breakfast at The Bellagio in Las Vegas on September 15, 2011. For over 60 years, Weldbend has produced carbon steel fittings and flanges and their annual breakfast is held during the ASA Convention (American Supply Association Convention). Gene Simmons founded Kiss almost 40 years ago....the event was appropriately coined, 'The Two Biggest names in Heavy Metal'.

Simmons arrived and to get things going he shared a short film about his favorite subject, Gene Simmons. He then spoke to the crowd about the importance of American ingenuity and that we need to stay in front producing quality products. He praised the Coulas family who are behind the Weldbend Brand and used them as an example of a great
American Company producing quality products and standing behind them.

Simmons took questions from the audience and gave out signed coffee mugs. He was asked what his major influences were for his music and he went on to say he is more influenced by people like Albert Einstein or Warren Buffet than other musicians but most of all, he looks for his inspiration from his mother. Simmons also spoke about his upcoming marriage to longtime partner Shannon Tweed and how they will record
the wedding for his television A&E show, 'Gene Simmons: Family Jewels" and he noted..."Never leave an opportunity untouched". Simmons also shared with the crowd the story of how he invented the 'Sign Of The Horns' Rock and Roll Hand gesture and he sourced it to the necessity to tuck his bass guitar pic in his hand when waiving to the crowd. He said everyone in the crowd was gesturing back to him with their fingers tucked and it was really an accident that took on a life of it's own.......the hand gesture along with the extended tongue out has become a universal rock and roll sign around the world.

Ronnie Vannucci of The Killers side project ' Big Talk' returned to the Hard Rock Cafe on the strip in Las Vegas Thursday. The show was a warm up gig before they head off to tour Europe and tonight BrandonFlowers, lead vocalist of the Killers surprised the audience and joined the band onstage mid-set. He performed The Killers song, 'When You Were Young' with the band. (Flowers pictured onstage wearing a blue jean jacket).

Fundraiser for "Kennedy Kares" Saturday 9/17 at Remedy's!

Remedy’s, a popular tavern chain with two locations in Henderson, will sponsor and host the Fourth Annual “Kennedy Kares” fundraising event at its 3265 St. Rose Parkway location, a benefit for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, on Saturday, September 17 from 1 to 5 p.m.

The event, which raised more than $21,000 last year (and more than $50,000 since its inception) for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, is the brainchild of Henderson residents and proud parents Anthony and Nikki Aukofer.

“What a thrill it is to bring this event back for the fourth year. This community and the customers at Remedy’s always step up to help us raise a lot of money for St. Jude,” said Anthony Aukofer, event organizer and Remedy’s bartender. “Our daughter Kennedy is four years old and we are very fortunate that she was born healthy and continues to be a very healthy little girl. We want to do our part to help those parents and families with children fighting cancer and raising money for St. Jude is a great fit.”

The management of Remedy’s invites the public to celebrate Kennedy’s birthday and make a donation to St. Jude. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a silent auction with items including: 2 round trip tickets to London; membership to Dragon Ridge Golf Course; show, hotel and restaurant certificates and a mini-video poker machine, among many others.

Remedy’s will also host a dunk tank during the event, providing guests an opportunity to dunk their favorite Remedy’s employees. The tavern will also award a $1,000 bonus to the guest who hits the first Royal Flush during the hours of the event.

For a limited time, a complimentary buffet of sandwiches, pastas and salads will be available to those who make a donation during the event. One hundred percent of donations will go directly to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

“This year, in addition to accepting donations at the event, we launched a website www.kennedykares.com so the fundraising party can happen year-round,” said Aukofer.
