World’s richest BBQ contest; ‘Ribba Ramma’ Amateur Rib Cook-off to benefit UNLV Athletics

 As summer starts to sizzle in Las Vegas, so will The Orleans Hotel and Casino with more than 100 of the world’s top-ranked professional grilling teams vie for their piece of the largest barbecue purse totaling $125,000 in prizes at The Orleans USA Barbecue Championships and food festival, May 21 and 22.

The Orleans USA Barbecue Championship is one of many festivals produced by Smoke on the Water Productions, and has attracted more than 45,000 event-goers and over 300 professional and amateur teams every year. This year, professional teams representing 43 states including six from Canada and one from Tokyo will compete in four categories: Brisket, Chicken, Ribs and Pork Butt. Las Vegas Valley local expert barbecue teams such as Trailhound Smoker BBQ, Sin City Smokers and The Smokin’ B.A.R. are hoping to take on traditional favorites from the South and win the top $25,000 prize.

The Orleans USA Barbecue Championships and festival will feature professional and amateur barbecue cook-offs and 40 to 50 of the world’s best barbecue vendors, a barbecue expo, live music sponsored by Clear Channel and Budweiser as well as a kid play zone.

The “UNLV ‘Ribba Ramma’ Amateur Rib Cook-Off” will also be held on the event grounds and for a $10 donation attendees will have the opportunity to sample ribs from five of the amateur competitors, with all donations supporting UNLV Athletics through the Rebel Athletic Fund. The Running Rebels basketball and football teams will also be taking part in the rib cook-off. All backyard grillers are encouraged to compete in the ‘Ribba Ramma’ contest to become “Nevada’s Grilling Guru” or the coveted “People’s Choice Champion.”

Four-time World Champion and star of TLC’s BBQ PITMASTERS, Myron Mixon, will not only be competing for the title of “Grand Champion” but he will also be on hand signing copies of his soon to be released cook book, “SMOKIN’ WITH MYRON MIXON: RECIPES MADE EASY FROM THE WINNINGEST MAN IN BARBEQUE.”

The festival is free and open to the public from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on May 21 and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on May 22. GLEE..GLEE cast was in Las Vegas!!! Where???

Tuesday night several of the cast members of the hit TV show Glee were spotted at Hussong’s Cantina inside The Shoppes at Mandalay Place.

Mark Salling, Cory Monteith, Chord Overstreet, Darren Criss, Harry Shum Jr. and others dined on the late night menu, enjoying quesadillas, tacos and guacamole.  The group hung out for nearly two hours and drank Original Margaritas and Coronas while being entertained a local magician. 

Rapper T-Pain and Ke$ha party in Las Vegas!!! Where??

Rapper T-Pain and pop sensation Ke$ha partied at Bang! Tuesdays at Moon Nightclub inside the Palms Casino Resort on Tuesday night. Accompanied by some friends they sat in a VIP booth and drank Ketel One and Fiji.

Linebacker takes BIG bite of cake!! Who and where! Las Vegas of course!

Monday night, San Diego Chargers’ linebacker Shaun Phillips celebrated his 30th birthday at XS Nightclub in Las Vegas with an all-out football inspired bash. Shaun walked the red carpet with his closest friends, including reality star Frankie Delgado, just before midnight. Upon entering, he was given a proper birthday welcome as fans waved glow sticks and Nerf footballs decorated with #95 and XS staff marched his group to their VIP table on stage, shaking glow-in-the-dark pom poms and wearing custom-made sexy jerseys with Shaun’s number. Taking time to show off his skills, Shaun threw the mini footballs around with fans and had a Nerf gun fight with his entourage on stage.

As the night moved into the early hours of the morning, the XS team surprised Shaun with an enormous cake shaped like his football helmet, surrounded by numerous bottles of Armand de Brignac “Ace of Spades” champagne as confetti dropped from the ceiling. It didn’t take long for him to dive in and take a huge bite before planting one of the bottles in the center and starting a cake fight with friends. The crowd went crazy as ponchos were passed out on the dance floor, with Shaun taking center stage under a red umbrella as Delgado led a shower of champagne throughout the club.

Legendary Boxer spotting!! Where??

Boxer Evander Holyfield was spotted at Marquee Mondays last night.  “The Real Deal” took in the sounds of DJ Vice from a table in the elevated VIP section just off the dance floor.
