Get Your Tix NOW! Blue Party At Mundo Coming Up On May 22, 2014!

Helping someone in our community find work is always in fashion.

That’s why Goodwill of Southern Nevada is proud to announce its inaugural The Blue Party, an evening of original runway fashion, art and live music under the stars outside Mundo Restaurant at the World Market Center in downtown Las Vegas on Thursday, May 22, 2014.  Doors open at 6 p.m.

The Blue Party will showcase seven local up-and-coming local fashion designers who will premiere their one-of-a-kind-collections using reimagined and repurposed Goodwill merchandise during a live runway fashion show.

Participating designers are:  Mitch Atkinson, Carlos Bruce, Maria Bruce, Tiffany M. Lewis, Aldo Mencatto, Wanda Merrit, and Glen Wright.  Each designer will also offer personalized fashion experiences during a special live auction.

After the runway show, guests are invited to stay for a complimentary After Party featuring live music by local artists Yvonne Silva, Silversage and Jesse Pino.

The night will also include a silent auction featuring local artists’ reinterpretation of Goodwill merchandise and traditional items, as well as several vendor booths for fashionistas to shop.

The Blue Party is hosted by the Goodwill Ambassador Council and will include passed appetizers and select alcohol generously donated by Mundo – a Latin Chic Restaurant.  Sandee Madrid and Bojo Ackah of KLUC, 98.5FM will emcee the night’s events.

All proceeds raised at The Blue Party will benefit Goodwill’s mission of assisting people in Southern Nevada find employment, no matter circumstance or disability.  In 2013, Goodwill of Southern Nevada helped more than 2,000 people find employment at a variety of businesses.

“When you purchase an item at a Goodwill retail store or donate it to a Goodwill donation center, you are giving that item a second life,” said Steve Chartrand, President & CEO of Goodwill of Southern Nevada. “But you are also giving someone in our community a second chance because our stores fund Goodwill’s free job placement and training services.  The Blue Party is a true celebration of what Goodwill does.”

Tickets start at only $25, per person.  Sponsorship opportunities are also available.

Famed Chef Daniel Boulud's db Brasserie Now Open At The Venetian Las Vegas

Chef Daniel Boulud’s db Brasserie s officially now open  inside The Venetian® Las Vegas. The restaurant, which Boulud calls his ‘ideal brasserie’, is an updated version of French brasserie, with a contemporary twist and international appeal.  The opening marks one of the most anticipated culinary events of the year – Boulud’s return to the Las Vegas Strip.

“Like me, ‘the brasserie’ was born in France but has traveled the world,” says Boulud. “I wanted to create a menu with my favorite French dishes, charcuterie, shellfish—all the ‘brasserie staples’—and international flavors from my travels that are a bit exotic and transporting.”

Created in collaboration with Executive Chef David Middleton, the menu features Boulud’s version of Escargots Spätzle, Burgundy snail fricassée, chicken ‘oysters’, mushrooms, parsley coulis and hazelnut, Poissons Fumés, Balik smoked salmon, smoked sable rillettes, potato dauphine, salmon roe, preserved cucumber, dill, Crispy Duck Confit, swiss chard, turnip, trumpet royale mushrooms, onion rings, and of course Steak Frites ‘From the Grill.’ The classics fit seamlessly with newly-created dishes showcasing international flavors, found in dishes like Hamachi Cru, eggplant-cumin aigre doux, finger lime, harissa, shallots and Tunisian Lamb, roasted chop, merguez sausage, couscous, lemon braised spinach and chickpeas, red pepper tagine. Burger-lovers will delight in three of Boulud’s gourmet burgers: The Yankee, The Frenchie, and The Piggie, adapted from Boulud’s New York City-based restaurant, DBGB. Elegant desserts including “Le Président,” a chocolate-hazelnut mousse tart with coffee Chantilly and crunchy feuilletine and a Calisson-Strawberry ‘Sundae’  of melon sorbet, strawberries, and orange blossom-almond sablés provide the essential sweet finish.

db Brasserie boasts a wine list of approximately 300 international selections, curated by Boulud’s group Wine Director Daniel Johnnes and db Brasserie Sommelier Devin Zendel. The list pays special tribute to the glories of American Wine, which are presented in three categories: PIONEERS ‘the first to prove the quality of American terroir’; NEW FRONTIER ‘young wineries inspired by their old-world counterparts’; and CLASSICS ‘next generation American winemaking, classics in their own right’. Keeping with the tradition of Daniel Boulud’s restaurants, the list also features the best French producers from the storied regions of the Rhone Valley, Burgundy, Bordeaux, Alsace, the Loire Valley and the great Southern regions of Provence, the Languedoc and Roussillon. The list’s old world wines –French and ‘LeVoyage’ – are organized by region in the traditional fashion. db Brasserie also features a full cocktail list, with creations ranging from classic (Le Boulevardier, Bulleit Rye, Aperol, Carpano Antica Formula) to floral (The Peruvian Love, Barsol Pisco, Cointreau, Lime, Cranberry, Lavender Soda) to bubbly (Ménage À Trois, a tasting of three Champagne cocktails).

The spacious restaurant seats 280 diners, including two private dining rooms, as well as a casual bar and lounge. Designed by Jeffrey Beers International (JBI), the group took inspiration from classic brasseries in France to create a welcoming and convivial atmosphere. The exterior façade of db Brasserie has been clad in travertine limestone panels, a reference to the public buildings that house some of France’s classic brasseries from past centuries. The restaurant's centerpiece is an expansive faux-skylight reminiscent of those in classic Beaux-Arts train stations and restaurants. The design elements extend throughout the bar and lounge, as well as the private dining areas.

Located at the start of Restaurant Row, just off the casino floor, db Brasserie is accessible from both The Venetian and The Palazzo, with easy access from The Palazzo parking garage. db Brasserie is open seven days a week for dinner from 5 p.m. until 11 p.m., bar until 12 p.m. The restaurant will soon operate from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Reservations can be made by calling 702-430-1235. Follow db Brasserie on Twitter and Instagram at @dbBrasserie.

Original Teen Idol Bobby Rydell Takes The Stage At The Suncoast 4/25 - 4/27

Bobby Rydell, All-American boy of the Baby Boom era, performs his rock n’ roll hits at the Suncoast Showroom April 25, 26 and 27.

With good looks, fame and talent, Robert Ridarelli -- better known as Bobby Rydell -- is considered an original American idol. After a teenage gig as drummer for Rocco and the Saints, where he played with trumpet player Frankie Avalon, Rydell launched his successful solo act in 1959. The hits flowed as Rydell rocked up the charts with “We Got Love,” “Kissin’ Time,” “Wild One,” “That Old Black Magic,” “I’ll Never Dance Again” and “Forget Him,” among others. Rydell recorded 34 Top 40 hits, and is recognized by Billboard as one of the Top Five Artists of the early ‘60s.

Beyond selling millions of records, Rydell enjoyed fame as a regular on 1960s television, appearing on “American Bandstand,” “The Red Skelton Show” and “The Milton Berle Show.” In 1963, Rydell was also featured in the classic film “Bye Bye Birdie” as Ann-Margret’s boyfriend, Hugo Peabody.

Rydell got the performing bug as a young boy in Philadelphia, doing impressions as a kindergarten student. His interest in music developed as he accompanied his father to the city’s big band hotspots. A storybook career followed, and Rydell is now celebrated for his profound influence on popular music. His impact on the era is evidenced in the hit movie “Grease,” as the producers chose Rydell High as the name of the school where the action takes place—a tribute to Rydell and the era in which the popular music was set.

Showtime each evening is 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available from $15.95, plus tax and fees. Tickets can be purchased at any Boyd Gaming box office, by calling 702.636.7075, or visiting www.suncoastcasino.com.
