A
book weighing 88 pounds that includes original autographs of all Formula One
World Champions living in 2006, is on display at Bauman Rare Books in The Grand
Canal Shoppes at The Venetian / Palazzo – just in time for race fans visiting
the city for NASCAR weekend, March 6-9. “The Official Formula One Opus
Champions Edition,” considered the definitive work on the history of Formula
One (F1), is one of only 100 printed.
The
oversized and impressive 852-page book is a first edition that was published in
2006 by Opus Media Group of Silverstone, England. It is signed by Sir Jack Brabham, Phil Hill,
John Surtees, Sir Jackie Stewart, Emerson Fittipaldi, Niki Lauda, Mario
Andretti, Jody Scheckter, Alan Jones, Nelson Piquet, Keke Rosberg, Alain Prost,
Nigel Mansell, Michael Schumacher, Damon Hill, Jacques Villeneuve, Mika
Hakkinen, Fernando Alonso, Kimi Raikkonen, Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button, and
Sebastian Vettel, among others.
The
massive volume charts the history of F1 beginning with the 1950 World Driver's
Championship. Lavishly illustrated, the opus features previously unpublished
photographs by the sport’s leading photographers, as well as iconic images from
the history of Formula 1. Each circuit is explored in detail while proving
insights into the drivers who have awed fans world-wide, from the Argentinean
Juan Manuel Fangio who dominated the first decade of Formula One racing to the
four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel.
“The
Official Formula One Opus Champions Edition” is housed in a black carbon fiber
clamshell presentation case featuring the Formula One logo and includes the
original cardboard shipping carton. The case is handmade by Hyptex, the leading
manufacturers of carbon fiber for Formula One race cars. It is priced at $30,000.
