The Shade Tree Raises Nearly $200,000 At  Girls Night Out Benefit!

Benefit Will Support Battered and Homeless Women, Children and their Pets

The Shade Tree celebrated its Ninth Annual Friends of the Shade Tree “Girls Night Out” on Thursday, May 5, at Marquee Nightclub & Dayclub inside The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.

The swanky soiree raised nearly $200,000 for the non-profit organization that benefits battered and homeless women, children and their pets.

Girls Night Out was emceed by FOX 5 news anchor, Jason Feinberg, and featured live performances by Red Rock Casino’s Zowie Bowie and FANTASY headliner, Lorena Peril, who sang “Halo” in memory of dancer Debbie Flores-Narvaez.

The benefit held a silent and live auction which featured tickets to ABC’s hit show Dancing with the Stars, a private tennis lesson with retired professional tennis player, Steffi Graf, a weekend package to the Marchesa Fashion Show during New York Fashion Week and three hosted dinners by master chef, Julian Serrano, who generously offered two more than originally planned due to its high-demand from the bidders.

About The Shade Tree
The mission of The Shade Tree is to provide safe shelter to homeless and abused women and children in crisis and to offer life-changing services promoting stability, dignity and self-reliance.

Since 1990, The Shade Tree has served homeless and abused women and children, victims of domestic violence, victims of elder abuse, victims of street crimes, female veteran, homeless youth and the physically disabled. Using programs offered by The Shade Tree, women can rebuild their lives. They can find employment, secure permanent housing and become a productive member of the community.

The shelter provides immediate safety from the harshness of the streets, street crime and domestic violence. Each person is provided accommodations that ensure the dignity and respect of everyone utilizing the shade The Shade Tree services.

The Shade Tree is the only 24-hour accessible shelter designed specifically to meet the needs of women, children and their pets in Southern Nevada. With 364 permanent beds and 50 temporary beds, The Shade Tree is the largest shelter of its kind in the state. The Shade Tree provides some 80,000 nights of shelter each year. On average, 33% of our clients are children under the age of 18. Senior citizens represent the fastest growing segment of our population.

The Shade Tree is a 501©3 non-profit organization. This means that most donations are tax deductible. We are a local ‘grass roots’ agency with no national affiliation or support.

All services are provided completely free of charge, regardless of the length of stay. This removes any barrier that might prevent a woman from accessing necessary services for herself and her children.

The place for the gods will become the place for the world’s greatest chefs at Vegas Uncork’d by Bon Appétit’s Garden of the Gods Grand Tasting—Las Vegas’ premier citywide culinary extravaganza—on Friday, May 6, at Caesars Palace.

A who’s who of the culinary world, with more than 50 award-winning chefs and sommeliers, will gather to offer tastings from their celebrated kitchens.  In addition, dozens of the best wines and spirits will be on hand to offer samplings.  This annual centerpiece event for the Vegas Uncork’d by Bon Appétit weekend will be presented at the famed resort’s Garden of the Gods, an exquisite five-acre swimming oasis with eight distinctive pools and idyllic gardens, each offering a unique experience for guests.

Each year, the Grand Tasting offers an unmatched opportunity to mingle with the world’s top culinary talent from resorts such as Bellagio, Caesars Palace, MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, Wynn|Encore, ARIA, The Venetian|The Palazzo and, for the first time, The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. Guests indulge in an incomparably festive atmosphere while sampling a staggering variety of signature dishes prepared by the city’s roster of award-winning chefs.  Among the dozens of chefs scheduled to attend this year: Paul Bartolotta, Hubert Keller, Joël Robuchon, Charlie Palmer, Michael Mina, Shawn McClain, Mary Sue Milliken, Rick Moonen, Francois Payard, Guy Savoy, Julian Serrano and Jet Tila.

Chefs participating this year for the very first time include Michel Richard of Central 24/7 and Nobu Matsuhisa of Nobu—both of newly announced but yet-to-open restaurants at Caesars Palace—and Scott Conant (Scarpetta & D.O.C.G.), Bruce and Eric Bromberg (Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill), Stephen Hopcraft (STK) and David Myers (Comme Ça) of The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.

Added to this year’s line-up will be a specially designated mixology experience.  To be located at the Venus Pool, this area will feature everything from classic cocktails to one-night-only creations from Tony Abou-Ganim and Steve Olson to name a few.

“Each year’s Grand Tasting lineup manages to be more exciting than the last,” said Rob O’Keefe, executive director, Vegas Uncork’d by Bon Appétit.  “What makes this event so special is not only the chance it offers guests to sample such an enormous variety of elite culinary creations, but also the opportunity it provides them to get up-close-and-personal with their most beloved chefs.”

Grand Tasting tickets are $200 per person.  The event begins at 7:30 p.m.  Additional information on Vegas Uncork'd presented by Bon Appétit, including a full list of participating chefs, full event schedule and ticket information may be found at www.VegasUncorked.com.  Guests must be 21 and over to attend.
