Take The Inerno Curry Challenge At Mint Indian Bistro!

Mint Indian Bistro, a full-service Indian restaurant with a unique approach, is hosting its Third Annual Inferno Curry Challenge Month in October. This year the chef will use two additional extreme peppers: the Carolina Reaper, which with its origins in South Carolina, has earned the status of the world’s hottest pepper by the Guinness Book of World Records, as well as the Trinidad Moruga Scorpion chili, a close second in the heat index.

Each year, from October 1-31, anyone who dares to attempt and finish Mint Indian Bistro’s signature Inferno Curry receives the most coveted spot on Mint Indian Bistro’s Wall of Flame. In addition, they also receive a $50 Mint Indian Bistro gift card as well as an entry into a drawing for complimentary dinner entrées for a year (one per month, 12 entrées total).

This year will be no different, except the heat has gone up by 1 million SHU units, with the hottest pepper at a scorching 2.2 million SHU.

When first launched in 2014, food critic and writer John Curtas of Eating Las Vegas, called it the hottest dish in Las Vegas.

At 1,041,427 SHU, the Ghost Pepper was the hottest pepper in the challenge up until last year.

“The Ghost pepper is so hot, our chefs wear a mask when they cook it,” owner of Mint Indian Bistro, Kris Parikh said. “With the Carolina Reaper and the Trinidad Moruga, the challenge has gone to a totally different level.”

Since the opening of Mint Indian Bistro in 2008, more than 2,000 guests have attempted finishing the Inferno Curry, yet only 32 guests have successfully done it.

“2016 is a very special year for us as we open our newest location in the southwest of Las Vegas. We’re working on providing diners with an experience never before seen or heard in an Indian restaurant. We are taking customer experience to the next level and decided to do the same with our food challenge. So we introduced two more peppers that have an SHU higher than even the Ghost Pepper,” Kris said.

With Mint’s second location slated to open sometime in October, there is also the coveted spot of being the first at their newest location to enter the Wall of Flame.

“Our Inferno Curry is not for the faint at heart. It is marinated with the hottest chilies in the world, and this year the heat is up substantially. If you have ever taken on our challenge in the past, you know it is insanely hot, “ Kris said. “This year, with the addition of two of the hottest peppers in the world, the challenge is really going to test your spice tolerance at the next level.”

“We use natural chilies, not extracts, so I always warn my guests to try it at their own risk,” he added.

To order the Inferno Curry dish, you must sign a waiver. The inferno Curry is served from 4 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. daily. The curry is made with fresh veggies ($17.99), chicken thigh ($18.99), or boneless lamb ($19.99).

Mint Indian Bistro does not just serve spicy cuisine. The Inferno dishes are just a part of the menu. In fact, the whole concept of the menu is based on the fact that no matter what dietary philosophy you follow, Mint Indian Bistro has something for everyone.

“We, therefore, cater to special diet groups like vegetarians and vegans. We also serve Halal meat and gluten-free delicacies,” Kris said.

So whether you like your curry mild, hot, extremely hot, or 'inferno-style,' they will custom-make it to your individual taste.

“We all know our spice tolerance; and at Mint Indian Bistro, we personalize the spice level to your liking. We can tone it down to zero or switch it up all the way to inferno,” Kris said.

Mint Indian Bistro has received numerous top honors and accolades from sources including Open Table, Trip Advisor and the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Best of Las Vegas Reader’s Poll.  In addition, Mint has received several rave media reviews.

Mint Indian Bistro in Las Vegas, Nevada, is a full-service Indian restaurant with a truly contemporary twist in its food, its décor, and its approach. Located just off of the famous Las Vegas Strip, Mint Indian Bistro’s food mantra is simple, fresh, flavorful and colorful food that appeals to all five senses. Mint is located at 730 E. Flamingo, Suite 10.

A Piece Of Mob History! Al Capone's Revolver Now On Display

The Mob Museum, the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, announces the addition of a temporary display: a Smith & Wesson .38-caliber revolver with a distinctive pearl handle, once belonging to Al Capone. Chief Richard Weber, Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation Division, joined the Museum’s Executive Director and CEO Jonathan Ullman in unveiling this historic artifact. The display opens to the public today, September 28, 2016.

The revolver is a .38 Hand Ejector, Military & Police Model from 1905. It was shipped from the factory in 1925 and sold by Wolf & Klar Co. of Fort Worth, Texas. Wolf & Klar was famous for installing pearl grips on the revolvers it sold It was confiscated in an arrest of Capone while he lived in Miami in 1928. After changing hands several times, the gun was finally seized and forfeited to the IRS in 2004.

“The Capone gun represents a connection between CI’s past and our present day mission,” explained Weber.  “While we continue to follow the money trail as we did in the days when we brought Al Capone to justice, we are now following the money in the cyber world, bringing today’s criminals to justice through innovative law enforcement techniques. The Mob Museum is the one place where you can see that history evolve in its entirety and we are very happy to once again partner with them to display this unique artifact from our 97-year history.”

The Mob Museum enjoys an ongoing partnership with the IRS Criminal Investigative Division. An exhibit about Treasury Department agents, “Follow the Money,” was added to the Museum’s permanent collection in 2015. The exhibit’s debut coincided with a Courtroom Conversation, featuring Chief Weber as one of the panelists, about the unsung T-Men who helped put away some of history’s most notorious mobsters.

New Property MGM National Harbor To Have Enchanting Conservatory

Acclaimed designer Ed Libby lookin at plans for The Conservatory at MGM National Harbor
As guests step into MGM National Harbor later this year, they'll be greeted by a vibrant horticultural scene that immediately engages all of the senses. Envisioned by renowned designer Ed Libby, the MGM National Harbor Conservatory is certain to become a must-visit destination in the Capital Region.

Whimsical yet elegant, the 15,000-square-foot, two-story Conservatory at MGM National Harbor will be a floral showcase of the sights and colors of winter, spring, summer and fall - along with a special display in celebration of Chinese New Year.  The Conservatory, which sits within a stunning glass-topped atrium, will be flooded with natural light by day and mingle with the stars by night, offering two distinct experiences for guests.

"From art to architecture, beauty and style are at the core of MGM National Harbor, which is why we designed the entire resort around this magnificent botanical vision," said Bill Boasberg, general manager of MGM National Harbor. "With Ed Libby's unbridled creativity and impeccable taste, the Conservatory will wow guests from around the world, introducing an attraction unlike anything on the East Coast."

The resort's inaugural winter exhibit, "Holiday Reflections," will elicit feelings of whimsy steeped within a sense of modern glamour. Created with more than 70,000 white carnations, poinsettias, orchids, hydrangea and kalanchoes, this sophisticated winter wonderland will feature a frozen bridge leading to a contemporary forest filled with a series of  geometric, glass-mirrored holiday trees ranging from eight to 60 feet in height; deconstructed wreaths; mirrored gift boxes; and oversized, glittering ornaments suspended from The Conservatory's glass ceiling.

For three decades, Ed Libby & Company Events has been designing majestic floral and crystal compositions for prominent recording artists, actors and companies across the United States including the "Wall Street Concert Series" featuring artists like Rod Stewart, Lionel Richie, Beyoncé and Kanye West. The company also has created multiple installations for the annual Macy's Flower Show in Herald Square, and now Libby will bring his expertise and artistic touch to MGM National Harbor with a series of seasonal displays through 2017.

Libby said, "Every display will be a feast for the senses. My intention is to take traditional elements that evoke the feelings of each season and use them in non-traditional ways: the holidays without evergreens, springtime in Washington without cherry blossom trees - or at least not in the style one might expect. The idea is to create a series of seasonal installations that require a cerebral interpretation, while maintaining the glamorous and thoughtful aesthetic synonymous with MGM National Harbor."

While many travelers may be familiar with the celebrated Conservatory & Botanical Gardens at Bellagio Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, the Conservatory at MGM National Harbor will dazzle visitors with a completely unique experience that captures the sensibility of the region.  With artful elegance and a touch of grandeur, it will become a must-see destination along the Eastern seaboard.

New Book By Comedian Rich Little Is Now Available!

Legendary comedian and impersonator Rich Little has announced the release of his debut book Little By Little: People I’ve Known and Been. Published by Dog Ear Publishing, Little By Little: People I’ve Known and Been features 252 pages of humorous stories of the celebrities, actors and politicians, ranging from Jack Benny to Johnny Carson to Jimmy Stewart to President Ronald Reagan, Little has known and impersonated throughout his more than 50 years in show business.

Dubbed “The Man of 200 Voices,” Little is best known for his impressions of Richard Nixon, John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart and a plethora of American icons. He has appeared in countless movies and television programs, including his own “Kopycats” and The Dean Martin Roasts where, more often than not, he impersonated the evening’s “roastee.”

“I’ve been blessed to have a career that has spanned more than 50 years, through what many have called the ‘glory days of Hollywood,” said Rich Little. “In that time, I’ve not only had the privilege to work alongside and impersonate some of the world’s biggest actors, comedians and of course, politicians, but been lucky enough to call many of these legends my friends.”

Little continued, “This book is not so much a biography, as it is a humorous glimpse at the people I’ve impersonated, their reactions – most positive and some not-so-much – and some funny stories that happened along the way.”

Little By Little: People I’ve Known and Been is available for purchase for $24.95 (Paperback/ISBN: 9781457544392) or $39.95 (Hardback/ ISBN: 9781457549571) and can be purchased online at www.LittleBookByLittle.com. The book can also be purchased in person at fine bookstores everywhere. For more information on Rich Little and for details on upcoming performances, please visit www.RichLittle.com. Follow Rich Little on Facebook at www.facebook.com/therichlittle and Twitter at twitter.com/the_rich_little

Excerpt from book:

So, how did a kid from Ottawa, Canada, growing up in the 50s become an impersonator? No one in our family had ever been in show business. No one ever had "show business" yearnings. My father was a doctor. My mother was a housewife. So where did it come from? I've often asked myself this question. I didn't know the answer, but I did love the movies. As a boy, I would go every weekend, sometimes staying to see the show twice. Just going to the movies and getting so involved in the story-telling and the characters made me want to be that person up on the screen; never dreaming that I could turn it into a career.

The glory days of Hollywood and their icons, like no other, have remained as indelible images in our hearts and minds for decades. I, like many, idolized these giants of the screen and comedy, but was so fortunate to have had the opportunity to meet, work with and get to know many of them along the way during my career. From the genius of Jack Benny, the unmatched humor of George Burns, the debonair, handsome Cary Grant, the unforgettable John Wayne, the king of late night hosts Johnny Carson, and the former actor-turned-President Ronald Reagan to name a few.

In this gem of a book are insights into the likes of many of these great people I've had the privilege and fortune to meet and imitate, shining new light on our beloved stars.

This is really not a biography, but more of a humorous glimpse of the people I've impersonated and some of the funny stories that happened along the way.

New Restaurant Coming To DTLV! Evel Pie To Open In October 2016

High Horse, a new hospitality collective based in Las Vegas, continues to build on the success of its first concept, The Golden Tiki, with the announcement of its new restaurant opening, called Evel Pie.

Set to open in October 2016 in the East Fremont Entertainment District, Evel Pie will pay tribute to legendary motorcycle daredevil Evel Knievel while serving delicious New York-style pizza by the slice and baked-to-order pies in a one-of-a-kind atmosphere. Operated in cooperation with Evel's son Kelly, guests can expect classic pizza flavors and toppings alongside an unapologetic selection of cheap drinks, craft beers and favorite American backyard beers, including Hamm's, Schlitz and Coors.

"Evel was the founding father and the catalyst of modern day extreme sports," said High Horse co-founder and creative director Branden Powers, whose family owned a chain of pizza shops in the 70s.  "He inspired a generation of kids to jump over their neighbors using makeshift ramps. His historic jump over the Caesars Palace fountains solidified him as a Vegas icon, and with the 50th anniversary of that jump coming up in 2017, we wanted to make sure Evel has a slice of Vegas history."

Guests can expect the unexpected as soon as they walk in the doors, as they're transported into a 1979 pizza shop with a few modern touches.  Inspired by the motto "Live hard, ride fast, eat pizza," Evel Pie's design will be overseen by Powers and designer Lieuchi Fine, with the interior featuring pinball machines, Evel memorabilia, Schwinn Stingray bicycles, dogtown skateboards, a bronze statue of Evel himself and a few surprises for which Powers is known.  Music will feature 70s rock, new wave and the roots of hip hop and punk, including Boston, Black Sabbath, Blondie, The Ramones, Beastie Boys and A Tribe Called Quest.

Evel Pie is located at 508 East Fremont Street, Las Vegas, NV 89101.

The DC Solar 350 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Oct. 1 will carry some added weight for eight drivers this year.

The 146-lap race is the second of three legs of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Chase’s Round of 8 and will be crucial for the eight drivers who have qualified for the inaugural Chase grid. Not only will they be battling for the checkered flag in Las Vegas, but also crucial Chase points as they look to advance in the series’ playoff bracket.

William Byron, Matt Crafton, John Hunter Nemechek, Christopher Bell, Johnny Sauter, Ben Kennedy, Daniel Hemric and Timothy Peters have qualified for the Round of 8, and one of them will become the 2016 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Champion. Their battle begins this weekend in New Hampshire, continues with the DC Solar 350 at LVMS and moves on to Talladega, Ala., the following weekend.

After Talladega, the Chase field is pared down to six for a trio of races in Martinsville, Va., Texas and Phoenix before the Championship 4 round at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The 2016 NCWTS champion will be crowned there on Friday, Nov. 18.

"I'm really looking forward to performing the 'Kings of the Wild Frontier' album live and in sequence plus my other favorite songs from the repertoire, in the USA,” Adam said.

“Kings of the Wild Frontier” introduced the Burundi Beat style of thundering, infectious, Central African drumming to a pop-music audience.  Adam captured the live sound by incorporating two drummers into his band, a musical signature that remains to this day.

In addition to remastering the classic album, Adam personally designed the deluxe box set that includes items from his extensive personal archive and a bonus DVD of the out-of-print “Ants In Japan” concert video.

The platinum album, originally released in 1980, crowned the UK Album Chart and spent more time in the top position than any other album at the time.  The album went on to achieve worldwide recognition and produced massive chart-topping singles including the classic “Antmusic”, the breakthrough tribal onslaught of “Dog Eat Dog” and the epic title track.

The original USA version of the album replaced the track "Making History" with the classics "(You're So) Physical" and "Press Darlings".  The album climbed the Billboard Top 200 chart and produced three Top 20 hits for “Antmusic”, “Dog Eat Dog” and “(You’re So) Physical”.

Sip And Savor Sake At Sushi Roku For World Sake Day On 10/1

This Fall, Innovative Dining Group (IDG)’s Sushi Roku will offer a pair of sake samplers in honor of World Sake Day (October 1), a 1,000 year old annual tradition held in Japan that serves as a tribute to the beverage, and kicks off the country’s sake production season. The samplers will be offered at a 10% discount on October 1, in honor of World Sake Day.

Each sampler will feature three 1½ ounce pours curated by Sushi Roku’s resident sake expert, Gary Min—one with premium selections for the serious sake connoisseur, and the other more playful, featuring fruit-forward options:

Premium Daiginjo Sampler ($39)  Wakatake Onikoroshi, Dassai 23, Kubota Hekiju ß “Daiginjo” is the most premium classification of sake
Flavored Sake Sampler ($21)  Ty Ku Cucumber, Lychee Nigori, Plum Sake

“For the flavored flight, we wanted to include sakes that are different from what we usually have on our list,” says Min. “The cucumber sake presents a clean and crisp, yet slightly sweet flavor that pairs with sashimi and lighter dishes. The lychee Nigori offers a milky texture and sweetness that stands up to sauced and fried dishes, and the plum sake is bubbly and sweet, which goes nicely with dessert.”

Fine Art Display! “Town and Country: From Degas to Picasso” Now At The Bellagio Gallery

Shepherdess Seated in the Shade  - J. F. Millet
Featuring dazzling portrayals of cities and the countryside during the Industrial Revolution, Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art’s (BGFA) new exhibit “Town and Country: From Degas to Picasso” is now open through February 20, 2017.

The exhibit, organized in partnership with the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, showcases 47 works of art ranging from paintings and prints to drawings and photographs. Featured artists include Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, Edgar Degas, Jean-François Millet and many more. Each piece reveals the artist’s interpretation of growth, expansion and development in the United States and Europe during the 19th and 20th centuries.

“Town and Country: From Degas to Picasso” illustrates the division between city and countryside due to political and social climate. During this period in history, artists adjusted their focus of urban and rural life by depicting the metropolises as busy with enterprise, ever-growing populations and adversely, the countryside as pastoral, charming and leisurely.

BGFA is open daily 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. Last admissions are sold 30 minutes prior to closing. Guests also may enjoy daily docent tours at 2 p.m., included with all paid admissions.

Tickets to BGFA are $17; $15 for Nevada residents and seniors 65 and older; students, teachers and military with valid ID. Children 12 and younger are free. For additional information, call (702) 693-7871 or (877) 957-9777, or visit bellagio.com/bgfa.

Legendary Restaurant The Palm Re-Opens With Delectable Dishes

Original The Palm Interior
Las Vegas! I first arrived in this town in 1989 from the cosmopolitan town of Albuquerque, New Mexico. At that time Las Vegas was still holding onto the old ways of The Sands, The Dunes and the Stardust. No huge celebrity Chef eateries and the buffets were still $1.99 to $9.99 which was considered gourmet! Then in 1993 a wonderful exciting restaurant came to Caesar’s Palace. Yes The Las Vegas Palm opened.

The original The Palm restaurant opened in 1926 in New York city by Pio Bozzi and John Ganzi and became a mecca for celebrities seeking consistently good service and  delicious steaks. If you have visited one of the restaurants you will see their famous Caricatures of the famous diners who have visited each location. This time honored tradition started because the Manhattan location was in close proximity to King Features Syndicate which employed a large number of cartoonists. In order to pay for their meals the cartoonists would draw their own creations on the walls of The Palm. At the New York location you will find original caricatures of Popeye, Batman, Beetle Bailey, Hagar the Horrible and many more. In 1995 the walls were professionally restored to keep these treasured walls intact for future generations or restaurant guests to enjoy.
New Dining Room
Now move along to September 2016 and a revamped and redecorated The Palm has re-opened. Along one wall is a brand new colorful mural which depicts the Las Vegas strip complete with a rendition of the famous Mirage volcano erupting. As for caricatures here at the Las Vegas location you will find on the walls such notables as Mayor Oscar Goodman and many celebs from the Caesar’s family of  entertainers such as Celine Dion and Rod Stewart.

Along with the new dining room some new items were added to the famous The Palm menu. Items that will delight your taste buds and have you visiting The Palm again and again

Applewood Smoked Nueske Bacon

Calamari
whether here in Las Vegas or in your town. Fabulous dishes such as delicious decadent tasty Thick-cut Applewood Smoked Nueske Bacon which is the “beluga of bacon.”  Sliced thickly with a maple-glazed house-made steak sauce to dip in, your taste buds will explode with the richness of this smoked bacon. Don’t forget to try the Coconut-Crusted Sea Scallops served with watermelon radish and jicama slaw, a rich seafood dish that has the warm rich flavor of scallops. If Calamari is a favorite appetizer of yours then you are in for a treat! At The Palm the Calamari is dusted with  cornmeal and is served with pickled lemon and peppers and has a tasty marinara sauce for dipping. Tender and cooked to perfection this calamari will become one of your favorite appetizers.
Jumbo Crab Grilled Romaine Hearts Salad
If salad is one of your must haves for dinner then you simply need to try the Jumbo Crab over Grilled Romaine Hearts! A robust tasty salad that is large enough to be shared by four people. This salad has fresh crab with roasted red and yellow pepper, goat cheese, caramelized walnuts and is drizzled with a lemon vinaigrette. The flavors in this salad blend together wonderfully and is a delicious addition to the menu.

The Palm since it opened in New York became famous for it’s wonderful steaks and meats.  In the 1930’s when you ordered a steak a trip to the butcher was made and then your steak was cooked to perfection. Other than running to the butcher not much has changed with the quality of meats and dishes served. The 14-Day-Aged Duroc Pork Porterhouse is served with a brandy mushroom demi-glaze. Melt in your mouth tender pork slow cooked to perfection is a mystical dish prepared perfectly. And the mushrooms add an earthiness to this dish.

When paired with classic sides such as Creamed Spinach made with  ½ and ½ this meal is truly a memorable dining experience.

Warm Cinnamon Sugar Donuts
