McFadden’s Restaurant and Saloon at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino will celebrate daylight savings time by giving partygoers an extra hour of pure drinking bliss with back-to-back open bars Saturday, November 6.
As all Las Vegans gain one extra hour on Saturday night, McFadden’s takes advantage with a double dose of their standard open bar. Saturday, November 6th is National Nacho Day and to celebrate cast members from Holly’s World on E! competed in a nacho building contest at Hussong’s Cantina on Thursday. Starting on Saturday the winning entry will be served all month long. Playmate Laura Croft and Angel Porrino from the hit E! Show competed against Tito Martinez, band leader for Hussong’s Rock n Roll Mariachis. The contestants assembled their creation from more than 60 ingredients ranging from specialty chips, beans, cheeses, creams and proteins and toppings.
As the mariachis played Angel, Laura and Tito set to work. Angel immediately set herself apart from her competitors, choosing to make dessert nachos with cinnamon chips, chocolate, marshmallows, sprinkles and more, while Laura and Tito went a more traditional route. When the dishes were ready Hussong’s Executive Chef Noe Alcala baked each entry for a few minutes and then presented the nacho dishes to the judges who graded the contestants on originality, presentation and taste.
Laura took first place with her entry, which she named Sexy B*tch Nachos. The winning entry featured a variety of cheeses over blue corn and Hussong’s house chips along with jalapeno, avocado, sweet corn, and chipotle sour creams and topped with jalapenos. The judges called her entry “very hearty,” and “classic”. Coming in second were Angel’s Candy Ass Nacho’s, which the judges deemed “innovative and a delight for dessert lovers”. Taking third were Tito’s Mariachi Nachos which highlighted chorizo as a primary ingredient.
Sexy B*tch Nachos will be served all month long for $13 at Hussong’s Cantina inside The Shoppes at Mandalay Place.

Las Vegas Bride magazine is launching the “Saving Baby Savannah” campaign to benefit Terrence and Suzi Lighten, two local business owners in the wedding industry. Terrence and Suzi are going through the unimaginable: the fight to save the life of their child.
Two months before her due date, Suzi suffered a complete placental abruption resulting in an emergency C-section to deliver Savannah Grace. The abruption caused Savannah to suffer brain damage on both sides of her brain and remains hospitalized in Level 3 NICU. Their only hope for recovery is many sets of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) treatments. The first set of treatments, done over a two-month period, will cost $9,000. Savannah will more than likely need two years of treatments, with on-going booster treatments.
In honor of the Lightens, Las Vegas Bride magazine has created the “Saving Baby Savannah” campaign to help offset medical expenses. This campaign comprises quarterly, large-scale events, with all proceeds going to the Lightens.

Nickelback lead singer Chad Kroger spent Halloween at Surrender Nightclub unwinding from a sold out show the previous evening at MandalayBay. The front man arrived at the Encore hotspot shortly before midnight with band members of Buck Cherry, Hinder and Three Days Grace. The groups took over two VIP bungalows and celebrated the holiday with vodka and mixers. About an hour later, Kroger and company made their way to the DJ booth to judge the costume contest. Kroger and Space Invader DJ Joachim Garraud pumped up the crowd while more than 45 costumed guests compete for the $5,000 grand prize. The winning costume was an oversized alien robot.

Each figure was first perfectly sculpted in clay before being molded in wax. A team of expert artists then accurately recreated color and skin tones, replicating every freckle, mole and dimple, before the make-up, artists, hairdressers and stylists finish off the look. The painstaking process will take four months to complete at a cost of more than $300,000 per figure, adding up to grand total of $2.4 million for all eight figures.

Local chefs work with local growers and purveyors to not only create a one-night-only menu, but also to educate Las Vegans on all that is available while feasting on an organic dinner.
Like all Project Dinner Table events, a percentage of the proceeds will go to charity. The November dinner will benefit Teach for America, a non-profit organization that strives to eliminate educational inequity by enlisting our nation’s most promising future leaders in the effort. To date, since Project Dinner Table launched in April 2010, and come November 14 $20,000 will have been distributed to a total of nine local charities including; Junior Achievement, Natural History Museum, Community Counseling Center of Southern Nevada, Nevada Cancer Institute, Vegas Valley Children’s Book Festival supporting Children’s Literacy, Nevada School of the Arts, Gilcrease Orchard, HELP of Southern Nevada and the final donation will support Teach for America.
Every single dinner to date has sold out.
“We cannot believe how quickly this season has whisked past us,” muses Gavan. “Chef Ellamar was our first chef at our launch in April so it’s wonderful to come full circle with him preparing our final dinner of the season. Additionally, when we hosted that first dinner at University of Reno Cooperative Extension Orchard, we were pleasantly surprised not only that we sold out, but how quickly the community just seemed to get what we were doing. We’ve created an event specifically for locals and the community where good food, company and conversation were treasured.”
Locations from the past season included April (University of Reno Cooperative Extension Orchard); May (Natural History Museum); June (Cashman Center); August (El Cortez Walkway), Sept. (the historic Fifth Street school) and Oct. (Gilcrease Orchard).
Project Dinner Table’s 2011 season will begin in April. Numerous local and national celebrity chefs are slated for next year’s dinners.
FloydLambPark at Tule Springs is located at 9200 Tule Spring Rd. With its wildlife, lush vegetation, lakes and views of the sheep and SpringMountain ranges, Floyd Lamb is a natural park unique to the typical Las Vegas urban experience. Project Dinner Table’s 2010 season is sponsored by Nevada Beverage Company Las Vegas, Whole Foods, Bacardi and Vegas Valley Book Festival. Local partners and purveyors include; Renaissance Catering, Quail Hollow Farm, Bar 10 Beef, Bon Breads, Hy-Desert Tomato, Riverbend Farm, Harney Sons & Tea, Colorado River Coffee Roaster, China Ranch Dates, Gilcrease Orchard, and UNCE Orchard.
Tickets are $125 per person and include dinner, entertainment, gift bags, philanthropy as well as all cocktails and coffee.
Project Dinner Table blends a philanthropic approach and appreciation for the farm to table movement, while focusing on what we love: food, community and fun. A series of once-in-a-lifetime, white tablecloth dinners hosted on-location in unique and adventurous settings, Project Dinner Table pays homage to and educating guests regarding local growers and sustainable sources. The gatherings celebrate community, local food sources and the lost art of conversation. Guests break bread with local growers, food artisans, restaurateurs and other spirited community members. The board is excited to incorporate this new feature into our programming for First Friday Las Vegas!
It starts at 5:30 PM, there will be food, cocktails, silent auction, live auction, raffle prizes and entertainment. This will be another great evening of fun and fundraising.
