The Miss Nevada USA organization has crowned the new Miss Nevada USA 2017 and Miss Nevada Teen USA 2017 at the pageant hosted at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Lauren York of North Las Vegas was crowned Miss Nevada USA 2017 and Alexis Smith of Summerlin was crowned Miss Nevada Teen USA 2017, respectively.

The two new beauty queens were crowned by the previous titleholders, Miss Nevada USA 2016 Emelina Adams and Miss Nevada Teen USA 2016 Carissa Morrow. The pageant featured contestants who were judged in three areas of competition, including: interview, swimsuit and evening gown for Miss Nevada USA contestants; and interview, athletic wear and evening gown for Miss Nevada Teen USA contestants. In the end, York and Smith were the judges’ picks.

As Miss Nevada USA 2017, 22-year-old York hopes to bring awareness to the community about the harms of driving under the influence, and continue her advocacy for the organization Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). Her hobbies include traveling, modeling and empowering others to see beyond society’s ideals of beauty.

As Miss Nevada Teen USA 2017, 17-year-old Smith hopes to give back to the community and empower other teenagers. Smith loves opportunities that involve leadership. In her spare time, she runs a YouTube channel, is a Student Ambassador for her school, volunteers at her church’s coffee shop and enjoys singing.

Throughout their reign, the newly crowned beauties will help give back to the community, working with charities and becoming fashion icons while modeling the latest fashions at red carpet events. They will also represents the Silver State at the national level at the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA competitions next year.

The Miss Nevada USA and Miss Nevada Teen USA pageants serve as official preliminary competitions to the country’s renowned pageant system, the Miss Universe Organization, owned by the WME-IMG Talent Agency. With an annual pageant held in November, two new titleholders are chosen to represent the great state of Nevada. Executive state director, Shanna Moakler, brings her experience as a TV star and former Miss USA to Nevada. Since Moakler joined the Miss Nevada USA organization in 2012, the pageant has received a complete makeover, giving Nevada notoriety with two Top 5 placements and a Top 10 placement at Miss USA. Miss Nevada USA 2014, Nia Sanchez, was crowned Nevada’s first ever Miss USA and was named first runner up at Miss Universe.
