Racing Results From Las Vegas Motor Speedway! Fun For Everyone!

Cameron Morga’s move into the U.S. Legend Cars’ Pro division was cemented Saturday when the talented teen won the 25-lap Pro/Masters feature at The Showdown at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Morga, the reigning Young Lions track champion, passed race leader Nick Halen on the 23rd lap and finished 1.397 seconds ahead of Darren Amidon at the 3/8-mile Bullring to earn the title.

“(Nick Halen) and Kaden Honeycutt are both really good drivers, and it was real fun,” Morga said. “I knew (teammate) Peyton (Saxton) was right behind me, so if I could get Halen, I’d have him with me. I’m looking forward to a lot of tough racing (this season) and to hopefully winning a national championship.”

Honeycutt, who won two features over the weekend, was in the mix until a late-lap spinout relegated him to a ninth-place finish. Randy Beddow was the top Masters finisher after crossing the line sixth and was all smiles in the Winner’s Circle.

“Today was a good battle,” Beddow said. “This is my fourth year racing Legend cars, and last year, I missed the Masters championship by two points when Michael Todd (Glazier) got me. I’ve just got to win more (this season), and hopefully the luck will go my way.”

This time last month, Las Vegas’ Travis Boyle had no engine or instruments to work on his Thunder Car. On Saturday, he completed a four-race sweep at The Showdown, winning the Thunder Cars 25-lap feature by 3.402 seconds ahead of Ed Hohman.

“A month ago, we had no engine and all of our tools had been stolen out of our trailer,” Boyle said. “We all worked our butts off, so this feels good. The trophy (for this event) is awesome, and I wanted that trophy. It’s awesome, and I hope it keeps growing.”

Parker Steele completed a perfect quartet during the three-day Showdown by taking all four Semi-Pro/Young Lions 25-lap features, while defending Bandoleros track champion R.J. Smotherman did the same in his division. Steele passed Sam Mayer in the closing laps and finished .466 of a second ahead of Kole Raz in Saturday’s 25-lap race after Mayer’s car erupted in flames as he crossed the finish line in third place.

“Sam and I had a good race,” Steele said. “I just listened to Darren (Amidon), and he said to race smart.”
Darrell J. Stewart finished fifth overall and first among the Semi-Pro group in a borrowed car to earn a Winner’s Circle appearance of his own.

“Yesterday, I trashed my car in qualifying, so I hopped in my dad’s car,” Stewart said. “It’s been a fun event. Today, we got the car decent, and next year, we’ll come back and have some more fun.”

Smotherman, who won 12 races at The Bullring last year, feels his car is dialed in heading into next week’s season-opening event.
“The car was just fast the whole weekend,” he said. “It was five-tenths (of a second) faster than the other cars and was just a rocket.”

NEXT EVENT: The 2016 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series kicks off with a full night of racing at The Bullring on Saturday, March 26. NASCAR Super Late Models, Super Stocks, Bombers and Grand American Modifieds, USLCI Legends, Bandoleros and Thunder Cars and Skid plate cars will all be in action at the short track.
