Complet List For February Of Activities At The Springs Preserve


Located just three miles from the famed Las Vegas Strip, the Springs Preserve is an award-winning 180-acre family destination dedicated to exploring green-living, desert life, and Las Vegas’ vibrant history through botanical gardens, interactive science and nature exhibits, animal shows, and trails offering hiking, biking and train rides. Indoor experiences include exhibition galleries dedicated to showcasing art and traveling exhibitions of local and national significance, on-site technologically advanced learning centers, the Divine Cafe and the Nevada State Museum. The Preserve hosts seasonal special events including concerts, arts shows and holiday experiences.

Hours
The Springs Preserve is observing fall/winter hours - 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. seven days a week. *Please note that we are closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Hours may vary for classes and special events.

Mardi Gras Vegas
Laissez les bons temps rouler (“let the good times roll”) as the Springs Preserve celebrates Cajun and Creole cuisine, music and culture at Mardi Gras Vegas. Featuring live music, food from local Southern eateries, a beer garden for the adults, a character parade, and crafts for the kids, the family-friendly Mardi Gras Vegas will bring the tastes and sounds of the Louisiana bayou and the colors and fun of Mardi Gras to the heart of the Southern Nevada desert. Saturday, February 6, 2015, 12 p.m. - 6 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults and children, 2 and under are free. Online purchases require $1 convenience fee per ticket. Event tickets do not include admission to museums and galleries.

Night at the Museum - Wreck-It Ralph
Parents can drop off their kids at the Springs Preserve for a safe night of entertainment including a screening of the PG-rated animated film, "Wreck-It Ralph."  The evening will feature an assortment of kids’ Valentine activities such as card-making and cookie decorating, and snacks and a pizza dinner will be served to all children in attendance. Saturday, February 13, 2016, 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. Admission is $25 per child (ages 5 - 12 only.) Members receive a $5 discount per ticket. Visit springspreserve.org for more details.

Science Camp - I Want My Mummy
Travel back in time thousands of years to Ancient Egypt. Peek inside the pyramids as we learn about some of the greatest engineering marvels of all times, then hold on to your brain as we dissect the science of mummification! The Springs Preserve offers full-day educational programs on CCSD in-service days, based on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM)—the perfect way to keep learning alive for ages 6-12, even when school's out! Our full-time, trained Education Team will lead all activities. We keep the camp size small to ensure hands-on, active participation, so register today. Camps will sell out! Monday, February 15, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. This camp is for children ages 6-12. $40 for members, $50 for non-members. Extended care from 6:30 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6:30 p.m. is an additional $10. Reservations are required.

Black History Month Festival
We're celebrating the contributions of African-Americans to our community with music, food and dance at our annual Black History Month Festival. Enjoy live music and dance performances, food from local soul food restaurants, a historic black Las Vegas photo exhibit, and activities for the kids including arts and crafts, carnival games and face-painting. Saturday, February 20, 2016, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and free for children ages 17 and under. Online purchases require $1 convenience fee per ticket. Event tickets do not include admission to museums and galleries.

Divine Café Happy Hour
Happy hour comes to the Springs Preserve! Join us every Thursday for live entertainment, 4 - 8 p.m. Happy hours feature ever-changing specially-priced food and cocktail menus including Divine sliders, street tacos, a blood orange cosmopolitan and more. Drink prices start at just $2 for beer and $6 for wine. Thursdays 4 - 8 p.m. in the Divine Café.
   
Ride the Trails - Train and Bike Rides
RIDE THE TRAIN: $3 members, $5 non-members. Take a narrated ride on our life-size locomotive around the historic 2.2 mile Exploration Trail. Daily - weather permitting. Check onsite for times. BIKE THE TRAILS: $6 members, $8 non-members for 1-hour bike rental, helmet included. Electric bike rentals $10 members, $12 non-members. Last rental 1 hour before close. Personal bikes not permitted. Daily - weather permitting.

Walk with a Doc
Stay healthy! Join University Medical Center physicians for a free nature walk and health talk on our trails. Thursday, February 18, 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. FREE. Regular admission prices apply for access to museums and galleries.

EXHIBITS, SHOWS AND FILMS
 
Scholastic Art & Writing Awards
Visit our Big Springs Gallery to explore the best artwork and writing from local students in a variety of categories and mediums. Dating back to 1923, these awards are the nation's longest-running and most-prestigious recognition program for creative teens. We proudly show the Southern Nevada Region competition and exhibit. Daily January 31 through April 3, 2016, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. in the Big Springs Gallery. Free for members or with paid general admission.

Arctic Voices
Discover how we are all connected to the Arctic.  Arctic Voices will take you on a journey to a fascinating and changing region. Explore the wildlife and the people that live there and how they've adapted to survive in this harsh environment.  Arctic Voices is a co-production of the Canadian Museum of Nature and Science North. Exhibit on display daily in the Origen Museum February 20 - May 18, 2016. This exhibit is free for Springs Preserve members and included with paid general admission.

Sustainability Gulch Puppet Show
Join us for Sustainability Gulch; a live, wacky, wild-west puppet adventure. Learn how the citizens of Sustainability Gulch live in harmony with the environment and what you can do to do the same. Weekends through February 28 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. (also showing Jan. 1, 18 and Feb. 15) in the Big Springs Theater. This show is free for members or included with general admission.

Puppet Party Hoedown
Join us for a Puppet Party Hoedown: Meet, sing, dance and take pictures* with the citizens (puppets and puppeteers) of Sustainability Gulch. Weekends through February 28 at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. in the Big Springs Theater. $5 per person. *Attendees to provide own camera.    

Feature Film – Wonders of the Arctic (50 Minutes)
Learn about the crucial role that ice plays in the lives of people and animals in the Arctic, and find out how they've responded to the rapid changes brought on by climate change in their environment. Saturdays and Sundays at 3 p.m. inside the Big Springs Theater. Free for Springs Preserve members or with paid general admission.

DROP-INS, CLASSES AND TOURS

Crack A Geode
Choose it, smash it, keep it! Crack open your own geode to discover treasure inside. Drop in to the Nature Exchange DAILY, last "crack" half hour prior to close. Members: $2. Non-members: GA + $3.

Design Your Own Puppet
After seeing the Sustainability Gulch Puppet Show, decorate a puppet of your very own to take home. Drop in to the Origen Rotunda Saturdays and Sundays, 10 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Members: $2. Non-members: GA + $3.

Arctic Animal Painting
Paint a snowy storm around an arctic animal silhouette. It's a cool memento of your visit to our Arctic Voices exhibit! Drop in to the Origen Rotunda Saturdays and Sundays, 10 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Members: $2. Non-members: GA + $3.

Toddler Time 
Bring your little ones to the Springs Preserve Thursday mornings for kid-friendly fun with a new theme every week! Ages 5 and under recommended. 11-11:45 a.m. Thursdays in the Garden Classroom. Free for members or with general admission.

Monday Story Time
Stop by the Nature Exchange for story time every Monday. 1:30 - 1:45 p.m. Mondays in the Nature Exchange. Free for members or with general admission.

Jr. Duck Stamp Design Program
Kids ages 5 - 18 can learn about the Junior Duck Stamp Conservation and Design Program. We will go over basic illustration of ducks, rules to enter the Jr. Duck Stamp Contest, and produce an actual entry for the contest. Saturday, February 6, 1 -3 p.m. Free for members or with general admission. Parents must accompany children.

Garden Toddler Time: Ground Work 
For the first three of these types of classes for toddlers (ages 3 - 5), it is only natural to lay the ground work for these budding gardeners. This is truly a hands-on experience for all. Saturday, February 13, 2 -3 p.m. Members: $2. Non-members: GA + $3. Fee is for children only, but parents must accompany children.

Bird Walk
Enjoy native wildlife at the Springs Preserve on an early morning walk before the Preserve opens. Bring your binoculars. Wednesday, February 10, 8 - 10 a.m. Free for members or with general admission.

Botanical Garden Guided Walks
Join our experts for a guided walk through our beautiful Botanical Garden. Saturdays and Sundays at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. Free for members or with general admission.

Gardens Workshop: Garden Divas - Tomatoes!
Want to add a little salsa to your life? Try tomatoes! There's more than one way to grow tomatoes in the desert: We'll explain the ins and outs of successful tomato growing and answer your questions in this two-hour workshop. Tomatoes may be the Divas of the Garden, but your efforts will be fruitful when you know the basics! Saturday, February 27, 8 -10 a.m. $10 members, $15 non-members per workshop. Online price includes $1 convenience fee.

Garden Series Classes 3, 4, 5 and 6
Join us at the Springs Preserve for four groundbreaking classes in the 8-week series about designing gardens from the bottom up. Plus, learn how to earn CCSD PDE credits. Go through the entire process of design using an actual "teaching garden" site at the Springs Preserve and get hands-on experience assessing, visualizing, designing, implementing, planting, caring for and maintaining the garden. 8-week series continues Saturday, February 3, 8 a.m. - 11 a.m. every Saturday morning through March 12. Cost is $37.50 for individual classes. February classes include: February 3 - Water World; February 13 - Down and Dirty; February 20 - Getting to the Root of the Matter; February 27 - The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Hands-On Cooking Class: Che Vita Bella
What a beautiful life in Las Vegas, and what better way to celebrate it than through food... Love of food is synonymous with love of life, so find yourself in an evening of good company and buono cibo at the Divine Cafe as our trained chefs take your palate and culinary skills on a tour of Italy right in our own dessert backyard. Explore the history of the culture & cuisine, use of ingredients, flavor profiles, and cooking technique as you prepare and dine on fabulous old world favorites and paired wines. Now that's amore!! Springs Preserve Admission Prices
General Admission (GA) for Nevada residents is $9.95 for adults, $8.95 for students, seniors, teachers and military, $4.95 for children ages 5 – 17, kids 4 and under are free. General admission also includes access to the Nevada State Museum, open Thursday through Monday. Admission for nonresidents adults is $18.95, $17.05 seniors, students and military, $10.95 for children ages 5 – 17, kids 4 and under are free. Special event and class admission prices vary and can be found at springspreserve.org.

Springs Preserve Membership
Springs Preserve memberships are the perfect way to share the Springs Preserve with family and friends and are available online or at the Springs Preserve Ticketing Office. All memberships include year-round access to the Springs Preserve (half-off admission to select special events), early hours entry to gardens and trails, discounts to classes, workshops, the Gift Shop, access to the Nevada State Museum, and a subscription to the Springs Preserve member newsletter. There are a variety of gift options to choose from starting with an Individual membership ($25), a Family membership ($60) which includes two (2) adults and up to 6 children or grandchildren in same household ages 5 - 17 (children 4 and under are always free), or a Bronze Family membership ($100) which includes all member benefits plus extras including free stroller rental, preferred parking, and 2 free guest passes.
