Track Winners And Results From Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series At LVMS

Group Winner Shot
A host of NHRA veterans added another victory to their career resumes at the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Division 7 event at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday.

Kyle Seipel (Top Dragster) of Pleasanton, Calif., Jeff Lane (Comp. Eliminator) of North Bend, Wash., and Jimmy DeFrank (Super Stock) of Chatsworth, Calif., were among the 11 racers to win championships and further cement their legacies as some of the top drivers in the NHRA’s Pacific Division. Los Angeles’ Tina Summerton claimed her first divisional victory by defeating Seipel in the Stock Eliminator finals, and Annie Whiteley of Grand Junction, Colo., earned yet another Top Alcohol Funny Car title to give the winner’s circle some female representation.

“I am ecstatic. It’s my first race in Division 7,” Summerton said. “Everything came together, and I just did the same thing over and over. I think this might be my favorite track now.”

Other class champions were: Chris Demke, Tujunga, Calif. (Top Alcohol Dragster); Rick Newport, Bluffdale, Utah (Sportsman Motorcycle); Darryn O’Connor, Fort St. John, B.C., Canada (Top Sportsman); Justin Morgan, Concord, Calif. (Super Comp.); Brian Griffey, Glendale, Ariz. (Super Street); and Dave Meziere, Escondido, Calif. (Super Gas).

Seipel, who is co-producing next weekend’s Spring Fling at The Strip, was unsuccessful in his bid for two titles, but was still all smiles after the event.

“A win and a runner-up, I’ll take that any weekend,” said Seipel, who now has 22 divisional wins. “It was great competition, and the track was great all weekend. The LVMS staff did a great job, and we’re looking forward to the Spring Fling next weekend.”

Lane now has 43 divisional victories, Demke stopped Joey Severance’s 19-round winning streak in the semifinals and DeFrank improved to 43-8 in divisional finals.

Las Vegas’ Gary Oaks advanced to the Sportsman Motorcycle finals before falling to Newport, while Henderson’s Justin Lamb fell in the semifinals of both the Comp. Eliminator and Super Stock divisions.
