As
two of the most intimate shows in the venue’s history, the Pearl at the Palms
Casino Resort hosted two amazing, sold-out performances by Eddie Vedder with
special guest Glen Hansard - and there
was plenty of excitement each night! On Halloween night, two members of the
crew who met on a previous Vedder/Hansard tour and ultimately married each
other in Vegas last year, were caught off guard with a surprise vow renewal on
stage by the very same Elvis impersonator that married them last December.
On
night two (Thursday 11/1), surprise guest Natalie Maines (Dixie Chicks)
appeared on stage to sing Golden State with Vedder – a song they previously
sang together at the West Memphis Three Rally earlier this summer. The track
held special meaning as Jason Baldwin of West Memphis Three was in the audience
with his wife. Vedder has been a long time supporter, advocating of the release
of the three for years.
Vedder,
often speaking to the audience or telling stories, at one time talked about a
charity he supports to find a cure for Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) and in
reaction some audience members brought donations up to the stage, but it was
one in particular that caught his attention. A lady offered a $5,000 donation
for Vedder to perform the popular Pearl Jam hit “Black.” Before the night
ended, Vedder made good on the agreement and performed the song alongside Boom
Gaspar on the keys. (Gaspar has been performing with Pearl Jam since the early
2000s.)
