What's Going On With Downtown Vegas Dining? La Comida!

Prickly Pear Margarita 

Being from New Mexico I was beyond excited to check out the newest Mexican restaurant downtown in Las Vegas! The opening of La Comida had tons of food and never ending drinks! On the menu are seven house margaritas and I tried the Prickly Pear Margarita ($13) which is made with Blanco, sour mix, and fresh prickly pear with a salt and lime wheel for garnish. A whole other level of margaritas is available and these are the Specialty Margaritas with the Siempre Caliente being the one that caught my eye but did not have a chance to try it but being made with Chamucos Blanco, passion fruit, fresh house mix and house special hot sauce, sounds very interesting ($15.)

Passed around were delicious Hamburgesa Mexicana sliders, they were very juicy and tender. This dish is served with Sweet Potato fries and is priced at $14. If you enjoy Ceviche then ordering the Ceviche De Callo De  Acha a tender sumptuous dish of sea scallops and mango salsa, OLE! Also very tasty and a light delight on hot summer days, the Tostada de Atun, tuna, red onions, micro greens,  Aji Amarillo ($14.) One of my favorite items anywhere are Carne Asada tacos and they were great! Tender and seasoned well with a spicy salsa this is definitely one of my favorite items on the menu ($12.)

Expect items on the menu for lunch and dinner to range from $12 - $20 dollars. The décor here is a mixture of Mexico meets Día de Muertos with wooden chairs and some booths available. A full service bar is available.

Saturday night, Billy Idol rocked The Pearl at Palms Casino Resort, bringing as much energy and stage presence as he has been known for over the years. Performing songs from his long career including Ready Steady Go, Dancing with Myself and Do Not Stand in the Shadows, the fans filled The Pearl with cheers and chants with their fists held proudly in the air! Vegas was the second stop of Idol’s newest tour.

Pop Star Keri Hilson Takes The Stage AT LAX Vegas?

On Saturday, May 25 LAX Nightclub inside Luxor Hotel and Casino had the Memorial Day Weekend festivities in full effect as the mega-club welcomed the stunning Keri Hilson. Arriving just before 2:00 a.m., fans cheered as the gorgeous pop star was on the prowl as she kept it casual decked out in layered gold cross chains, fashionable sunglasses and leather capri pants dressed up with cheetah accessories from head-to-toe. After shaking hands with her devoted fans, she made her way into her VIP booth where she posed for pictures and took in the excitement from the packed room.

Just before the beautiful songstress took the mic, DJ Mars, her personal MC, pumped up the crowd playing throwback remixes by Faith Evans and her producer and close friend Timbaland. As she began her powerful set just after 2:00 a.m., Hilson welcomed her fans by asking “Who’s ready to party with me tonight?” “Let me hear you sing with me on this one LAX” as she started in with her hit record “The Way I Are.” The main room soared with excitement as Hilson let her fans finish the last few lyrics as she made her way down the main stairway to get up close and personal to her fans. She paused for a moment to acknowledge one of her devoting supporters signaling her from the crowd as he took off his bow tie and insisted she keep it. Much obliged and sporting a huge smile, she gave the garment to her security guard to keep at her VIP booth.

Continuing her performance, the lovely singer began her fan favorite “Turnin’ Me On” followed by “Knock You Down” where she extended the mic onto the dance floor for the entire room finish the song. Hilson took a moment to share a personal experience as she provided her fans with a few words on how she discovered her inner beauty. “You are only as pretty as you feel” she said and began to pick a few lucky ladies to join her on stage. “This one is for all my pretty girls out there” Hilson exclaimed and began her empowering anthem “Pretty Girl Rock.”

The gracious vocalist had LAX Nightclub on their feet as she put on an awe-inspiring performance for the holiday weekend. Before making her way back to her VIP booth, she thanked her fans for all of their love and support as she ran across the main stage reaching out to touch the hands of her thrilled followers.

Later on in the evening, Hilson was joined by her beau Serge Ibaka, 6’10” Power Forward for the Oklahoma City Thunder. The loving couple was spotted cuddling at her VIP booth as Hilson spent the rest of the night laughing with her main man and sipping on cocktails with close friends.

South Point Arena Helps Students! Hosts BADASS Dash!

 

Obstacle Course

South Point Arena hosted a private BADASS Dash obstacle challenge for the After-School All-Star (ASAS) students from Cashman Middle School on Friday, May 24. The students from ASAS, a nonprofit designed to provide children with the necessary tools they need to have a successful future, spent the afternoon conquering a one-mile obstacle course designed to teach them the importance of teamwork as they worked together to overcome unique challenges.

Throughout the afternoon, more than 50 ASAS students scaled over towering piles of sand, shimmied through mazes of chains and ropes, climbed across monster vehicles, crawled through treacherous tires while flinging themselves in the dirt to cross the finish line. The private challenge, personally designed by the BADASS Dash team, was created to encourage the students to have fun in a team environment while using problem solving skills to pass each obstacle.

“Our partnership with the BADASS Dash team allows people to come together through fitness to work as a team while supporting the community,” said South Point General Manager Ryan Growney. “This course is designed to help children realize their full potential and encourage them to work together while taking part in something that is not only challenging but also inspiring and fun.”

South Point Arena hoste the official running of the BADASS Dash Adventure Race and Obstacle Challenge on Saturday, May 25. The partnership between BADASS Dash and South Point was founded in an effort to raise funds to benefit The Lili Claire Foundation, a private medical center dedicated to helping special needs children and adults with neurogenetic conditions such as Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, Down Syndrome, Williams Syndrome and Autism.

Travie McCoy Entertains Full House At Chateau Vegas!

Saturday, May 25, Chateau Nightclub & Gardens at Paris Las Vegas continued the Memorial Day weekend celebration as Billboard Hot 100 artist Travie McCoy took over the rooftop with a live performance. The former Gym Class Heroes’ lead vocalist arrived to the hot spot around midnight where he was escorted through the masses to his VIP booth.

Nearing 1 a.m. the laidback singer hopped atop the VIP booth and kicked off his performance. Singing his chart-topping hits including “Stereo Hearts,” “Get Back Home,” “Billionaire” and more, McCoy had the entire nightspot on their feet singing along. Nearing the end of his set, the singer thanked his fans and made his way back to his VIP booth where he spent the rest of his evening meeting and taking photos with fans.

Also spotted partying at a nearby table were multiple members of the NFL football team the St. Louis Rams including offensive tackle, Rodger Saffold, tight end, Lance Kendricks and Jared Cook, tackle, Jake Long and defensive end, Chris Long. The group spent their evening sipping cocktails and champagne while enjoying McCoy’s performance.

JJAMZ Took Over At Blvd. Pool At The Cosmopolitan! Next Up Matt & Kim!

Indie-pop supergroup JJAMZ took over the Boulevard Pool on May 23, performing at the Set Your Life to Music series at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. Comprised of James Valentine (Maroon 5), Jason Boesel (Rilo Kiley and Bright Eyes), Alex Greenwald (Phantom Planet), solo artist Michael Runion and vocalist Z. Berg (the Like), JJAMZ was formed with a purpose – to create something completely different from the members’ previous endeavors. The result, proved by last night’s show, has been a success.
