Love Sushi? Love Seafood? Rice & Company coming soon! Chinese & Japanese Fare!

Rice & Company to Open at Luxor! Blending Bistro, Far East Fare

The Strip is about to get a fresh new taste of the Far East with Rice & Company, an Asian bistro opening at Luxor Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas in late spring.  The 10,000-square-foot restaurant, sushi bar and lounge will offer contemporary Chinese and Japanese cuisine, an array of sushi and sashimi selections including dozens of innovative rolls, as well as specialty cocktails and an expansive sake menu.

”Going out for contemporary Chinese and Japanese fare, particularly sushi, can be an expensive venture on the Las Vegas Strip,” says David Wu, co-founder and partner of Rice & Company. “At Rice & Company, we’ve developed a dining destination where people can enjoy delicious Asian cuisine in an energetic atmosphere, without the high prices.”

Rice & Company’s distinctive dishes will be made from the freshest ingredients of the highest quality. Diners will enjoy such innovative selections as Lobster Shumai made from fresh lobster, crawfish and caviar, infused with wasabi, basil and onion in a Thai chili sauce and Cajun White Tuna with white mango salsa, seared and topped with mango, mint leaf, lime juice and black sesame. The culinary team has also created their own delicious twists on such main course classics as the Curry Coconut Chicken and Lobster Cantonese.

The atmosphere combines classic and contemporary design features, offering guests a dynamic setting to enjoy their dining experience. There are three semi-private dining rooms for business meetings, rehearsal dinners, bachelor/bachelorette parties and more, accommodating 10, 30 and 40 guests, respectively.

Rice & Company is the newest dining concept by food and beverage industry veteran and restaurateur David Wu. Located on the Luxor’s second level at the entryway to The Shoppes at Mandalay Place, Rice & Company is due to be open daily from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m., and the lounge will stay open until 2 a.m. For more information or reservations, guests may call 702-262-4774. Mark McGrath

Saturday night Mark McGrath celebrated his birthday at LAVO in Las Vegas.  The lead singer of Sugar Ray and current contestant on The Celebrity Apprentice, who turned 43 on March 15th, was joined by friends and fiancĂ© Carin Kingsland.  The group enjoyed a dinner of signature dishes at the Italian eatery before heading upstairs to the nightclub.  Taking over a VIP table on the dance floor, the super friendly McGrath was surprised with a birthday cake from Gimme Some Sugar in the shape of a shamrock.  DJ Skratchy played his hit, “Fly,” and the crowd sang along.  The couple, who welcomed twins almost one year ago, danced the night away, enjoying an adult night out with their friends in Vegas.

Also celebrating birthdays at LAVO on Saturday were Kathy Hilton and her niece Whitney Davis, who turned 21 earlier in the week.  The guests of honor where joined by Kim Richards, from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, who is Kathy’s sister and Whitney’s mom.  Also joining them in the private dining room were Kathy’s husband Rick and their daughter Nicky, as well as Whitney’s sister Brooke, along with Brandon Davis and a large group of friends.  Whitney ordered a round of shots for the table, and then blew out a candle on a dish of birthday desserts.  She thanked the table for coming and then Kim echoed the thought, beaming at her daughter.  After dinner the group headed to TAO Nightclub where they were surprised with two more birthday cakes as they partied the night away.

Who is advancing in Studio 54's Miss Knockout Contest? See them here!! One more preliminary round!

Miss Knockout 3rd Preliminary Winners at Studio 54

Studio 54 inside MGM Grand is one week closer to choosing MGM Grand’s 2011 boxing ring girls as eleven dazzling ladies entered the third preliminary round of the Miss Knockout competition last night. Each of the ladies brought their A-game with hopes of making it to the grand finale competition March 31.

The sexy contestants were looking ready for summer with fit physiques in itty bitty bikinis as they strut their stuff across the iconic nightclub’s red carpet. A line of club-goers, adorned in green attire and shamrock beads for St. Paddy’s day, cheered for the ladies as they anxiously awaited to get inside the venue.

Inside the nightclub, DJ Forbes energized the crowd as they danced to Usher’s “DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love” while waiting for the competition to begin.

The always charming Studio 54 dancers lured every eye in the building to the stage as they sported sexy outfits complete with go-go boots and fishnet stockings while performing a provocative routine to Lady Gaga’s hit, “I Was Born This Way.”

Studio 54’s host for the night, DJ Loczi, grabbed the mic to kick off the competition by introducing the Miss Knockout contestants one-by-one. The audience erupted with cheers and snapped photos of the girls as they sauntered across the stage blowing kisses and shooting playful winks into crowd. The contestants let their personalities shine while answering Loczi’s lighthearted onstage questions.

While the ladies were hard at work impressing the crowd onstage, the official judges, including Xania Woodson of Vegas SEVEN magazine, intently jotted down notes to help them choose their picks for the night’s finalists.

As the contestants headed backstage, Loczi reminded the crowd of their say in the competition. “You are the judges tonight,” he said into the mic holding a shiny black ballot in the air. Club-goers immediately made their way to the ballot box to cast their vote for “People’s Choice.” As the votes were tallied, DJ Forbes kept the packed room dancing to the beat under a flood of red strobe lights.

Loczi took the mic once again, and the crowd clambered to the stage to see who the finalists would be. The contestants came out to the sound of Snoop Dogg’s “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” nervously taking their place on stage hoping to hear their name.

Loczi announced the judge’s picks first - Danielle Davidson, Jean Duffy, Shivonn Geeb, and Christina Christensen. Letting the suspense hang in the atmosphere, Loczi took his time announcing the crowd’s pick, Kensi Dob. As the finalists celebrated on stage, the audience made it apparent they were pleased with the picks through screams and applause.

These sexy ladies will move on to Miss Knockout’s grand finale competition on March 31 where they will have the opportunity to compete for the official Miss Knockout title, a $5,000 prize, an official contract with MGM Grand and a VIP party with their friends at Studio 54 after every boxing match.

The ladies who were not chosen to move on to the finals have one more opportunity to vie for a spot in the finals at next week’s fourth and final preliminary round on Thursday, March 24.

Las Vegas Shelter Need Help NOW!! 300 Dogs lives at STAKE!!

The Time Is Now to Save the Homeless Dogs of Tomorrow

Las Vegas - Everyday the media announces more and more anticipated layoffs, additional housing foreclosures, and charities in need.  Well today I am asking you to help save a charity that unfortunately is negatively impacted every time a pet owner looses their job and/or home and is dealt the card of having to give up their beloved pet.  Adopt A Rescue Pet (ARP) is one of Nevada’s largest animal rescue organizations sterilizing and re-homing pets for over 10 years and now it too has become a charity in dire need of public support so it can continue to support the numerous dogs turned into them by the public for rescue in lieu of death at a pound facility.

Adopt A Rescue Pet is now facing a crisis of its own.  In less than 45 days the organization must raise $70,000 to payoff the pending balloon payment for the 5 acre dog sanctuary & retirement ranch they have under construction in Amargosa Valley, Nevada.  The property has been privately carried by the sellers for 3 years, and originally the founder of Adopt A Rescue Pet had secured funding for the payment, but the economic meltdown has wiped out the principals who had planned on covering the note.  In Sept. 2010, Adopt A Rescue Pet was assured funding by a private foundation grant, however, this year started off with the funding group going defunct leaving Adopt A Rescue Pet scrambling for a third time to find a source for $70,000.00.  “Two years ago, we were stressing on how to house the animals that were being returned to us because of home loss, now we are stressing on how to retain our house for the housing of the animals we committed to,” says Elizabeth, Founder of ARP.

The payment is large, but if every pet owner in Nevada donated a $1 the funds would be easily met.  If 7,000 people donated $10 the payment would be met, if 700 donations of $100 were made the payment would be met.  “It is do-able, just in today’s economy asking for money is tough.  People pan handling receive more in a day than some charity groups doing good receive in a week.”  The saying “every penny adds up” is a virtue charity groups survive on – every person who shares our urgent need is one more step towards the animals next true rescue.

Donations can be made via credit card on the ARP website www.adoptarescuepet.org   Deposited directly into the Adopt A Rescue Pet – Sanctuary Account at Nevada State Bank (provide account #102013604), or mailed to Adopt A Rescue Pet, 1500 E. Tropicana, Ste 105, Las Vegas, Nevada 89119.

Adopt A Rescue Pet, founded in 2000, is a non profit charitable animal welfare organization in southern Nevada.  ARP has rescued and placed 13,000+ animals into new homes.  Pets in the program are sterilized, vaccinated and microchip under the scrutiny of private veterinarians; $68,000 is needed to finalize the land purchase of the groups 5 acre sanctuary/retirement ranch for dogs in Amargosa Valley, NV. Adoptions are held every weekend at the “Best of the West” Petsmart (Rainbow/Lake Mead) or visit www.adoptarescuepet.org or email arpinfo@adoptarescuepet.org or call (702)798-8663.  FED EIN# 88-0487028
