The Venetian & The Palazzo To Celebrate WWF's Earth Hour

The Venetian and The Palazzo will commemorate World Wildlife Fund's Earth Hour for the eighth consecutive year by turning off non-essential lighting for one hour, including exterior lighting, rooftop signage and façade features.

Earth Hour is a worldwide annual environmental campaign that challenges organizations and individuals to turn off lights for one hour every March to show their commitment to global green initiatives. Around the globe, millions of people, businesses, and landmarks will set aside an hour to host events, switch off their lights, and make noise for climate change action.

The Venetian will celebrate Earth Hour in grand style in the Doge's Palace plaza, in front of The Venetian. The resort's official "Earth Hour DJ" will lead a countdown to the 8:30 p.m. start of Earth Hour, when all exterior building lights on The Venetian and The Palazzo will be turned off for one hour.

Team Members and guests will come together (while enjoying music and an inspired Earth Hour beverage) to create a planet Earth "mural" on the plaza using LED tea lights, beginning at 8 p.m. Free seed packets will be distributed while supplies last.

For the remainder of the evening (after Earth Hour), the resort will turn its exterior tower signs green.

The proud participation of The Venetian and The Palazzo is just one piece of the Las Vegas Sands comprehensive Sands ECO360° Global Sustainability program, which was designed to help minimize environmental impact and lead the way in sustainable building development and resort operations. Las Vegas Sands retains an industry-leading position on CDP's Climate A-list and Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI). In addition, Las Vegas Sands was the highest-rated hospitality company in the world in the 2016 Newsweek Green Rankings.

Celebrating the life and legacy of the world’s greatest heavyweight boxer, Muhammad Ali, Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art (BGFA) will unveil its newest exhibit on March 31.

Offering a never-before-seen look into Ali’s captivating and historic life and organized with support from Muhammad Ali Enterprises, “I Am the Greatest: Muhammad Ali,” explores the legend’s rise from “The Louisville Lip” to “The Greatest of All Time.” The exhibit features unseen video footage and family photos, rare personal heirlooms and stories from his closest friends.

“In a city synonymous with boxing, bringing the story of this legendary athlete and humanitarian to Las Vegas where he impacted so many fans and visitors, is a great honor for us at Bellagio,” said Tarissa Tiberti, executive director of Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art. “This is unlike any other exhibit we’ve had at the gallery and we’re thrilled to share parts of Ali’s life that resonate with guests from around the world.”

Ali’s six core principles of Confidence, Conviction, Dedication, Giving, Respect and Spirituality will be explored through personal words, photos and possessions, uncovering the story behind one of the most recognizable sports figures of the 20th century.

Inside the gallery, stories behind Ali’s lifetime achievements will be revealed, from his accomplishments in the ring to his humanitarian work around the world with organizations such as the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Special Olympics.

The exhibit will feature personal artifacts including Ali’s two-time World Champion ring from 1974 and three-time World Champion ring from 1978. The torches and participation medals that Ali was awarded from the 1960 Rome Olympics, as well as an autographed pair of boxing shorts and gloves gifted to Elvis Presley, also will be on display.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to sit ring-side where they will view clips of Ali’s most legendary fights and learn about the philanthropic endeavors of this global role model.

Paint & Support St. Jude's Children Research Hospital At Pinot's Palette

Visitors at Town Square will soon have a new place to bring out their inner artist.

Pinot’s Palette, the popular paint-and-sip studio, will be bringing more fun and creativity to the community when it opens its third Las Vegas valley studio at Town Square on Friday, April 7. Located on the west end of Town Square, across from the Yard House and just below AMC Town Square 18 theater, it’s the sister studio to the Henderson location in The District at Green Valley and Summerlin location in Boca Park. With a slightly smaller, more intimate feel, the Town Square location will hold up to 48 guests in the main studio and 24 guests in the private party room.

To celebrate its opening, Pinot’s Palette is hosting a Grand Opening celebration on Friday, April 7 and Saturday, April 8. The upscale wine and painting experience is partnering with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for a weekend of giving back to the community by “Painting It Forward” while patrons fulfill the Pinot’s Palette motto of “Paint. Drink. Have Fun.” Supporters can sign up for either of the two-hour 7 p.m. classes on Friday or Saturday for $39, with 100 percent of the painting proceeds to be donated to St. Jude. Guests interested in signing up for Friday’s “Pinot in Paradise” class can register online at www.pinotspalette.com/townsquare/event/147378 and Saturday’s “Wild Wine Night” class registration is available at www.pinotspalette.com/townsquare/event/153747

Local husband and wife team Reed and Judy Alewel are owners of all three Pinot’s Palettes in the Las Vegas area. Prior to opening their first studio in Henderson, Reed was vice president of sales and operations for a leading gaming machine manufacturer in Las Vegas, and Judy was a clinical nurse instructor at College of Southern Nevada. In 2014, Reed was laid off by a downsizing at his corporate employer, which led him to open Pinot’s Palette at The District.  Judy has since left her job to focus on their studios, and together they have created 26 full- and part-time jobs in the Valley.

“We’re so thrilled to open our third Las Vegas Valley studio at Town Square where locals and tourists alike can explore their creativity,” said Reed Alewel. “We are honored to be partnering with the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for our grand opening weekend. They are an extraordinary organization, and we believe that it is important as business owners to give back to the community.”

Pinot’s Palette has been established as the Valley’s most upscale paint-and-sip studio. A great advantage of the franchise is the access to its nationwide library of paintings. With over 1,400 paintings available to guests with a new painting added to the library nearly every day, Pinot’s Palette keeps its content fresh and consistent with current decorating trends. Pinot’s Palette Town Square provides all art supplies needed for each painting class, and is staffed by professional artists that will recreate the featured painting step-by-step with every brushstroke being displayed on a 75-inch monitor. The artists level of instruction is of the highest quality, but this is not an art class. With 22 different wines, and a dozen different beers, along with non-alcoholic offerings, this is a social event. Pinot’s Palette is perfect for date nights, girls’ night out, birthdays, church groups, and more. The three locations will have nearly 100 public classes each month, so there’s something for everyone. More information is available at www.pinotspalette.com/townsquare.

Long Time NASCAR Fan Wins Two Trips To Vegas!

In addition to being a loyal NASCAR fan, Toni Jackson is now the answer to a trivia question.

The Bellflower, Calif., resident was the first racing fan to secure tickets to both 2018 NASCAR Weekends at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in March and September when she renewed online on March 8, just hours after it was announced the speedway will have two event weekends next year. Jackson, who has attended LVMS’ spring races with her husband, Steve, since 2004, was excited to learn she is the track’s first annual ticketholder and thrilled to hear about the addition of a second race weekend.

“I can’t believe I was the first one,” said Jackson, who routinely attends the track’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race each fall. “I was excited when they finally said (LVMS) was going to get a second race, and we were hoping they would get it for a long time.” Jackson said there are several aspects of attending races at LVMS she enjoys. “I think the atmosphere is great, and with all the NASCAR fans, it’s just like a family,” she said. “Las Vegas is kind of like our home away from home. No matter where you stay or what you’re doing, you always see something that’s NASCAR, so you feel included. (The speedway) is easy to get in and out of, and we have nice seats. It’s the only track we go to now.”

Jackson’s racing roots and love for motorsports runs deep. “I’ve been a racing fan all my life,” she said. “I grew up riding motorcycles and going to Ascot Speedway. I grew up with motorcycles, then we graduated to drag racing and then to NASCAR probably in about 1998.”  She is excited about having two trips to LVMS next year. “I can’t wait,” she said. “We love it there.”

Fans can attend both of LVMS’ 2018 racing weekends for as low as $149, and payment plans are also offered. Tickets to all of LVMS’ events are available by calling 1-800-644-4444 or logging on to www.LVMS.com.
