It's Almost Throwback Thursday At LAX! Last Week Was Coolio Performing

LAX Nightclub at Luxor Hotel and Casino treated guests to a "Fantastic Voyage" with Coolio on Thursday, May 5, when the rap superstar took the stage to perform a set list of fan-favorite hits. As the latest headliner in the venue's successful Throwback Thursday series, Coolio paid tribute to Prince with a medley of "Purple Rain" and his own 1997 single "C U When U Get There." The enthusiastic audience also enjoyed chart-toppers "1, 2, 3, 4 (Sumpin' New)" and "Gangsta's Paradise."

Before his crowd-pleasing performance at LAX Nightclub, Coolio stopped by Rice & Company, where he presented a cooking demonstration inspired by his web series "Cookin' with Coolio," which spawned a cookbook featured on outlets including National Public Radio and Village Voice. Among the featured menu items was the "Coolio Roll," a sushi roll made up of Lobster Tempura, Asparagus, Avocado, Beef Tenderloin, Caramelized Onion, Taro Fries, and Chili Citrus Sauce.

Coolio became a household name in 1994 with the release of his debut solo album, "It Takes a Thief." The following year, he made music history when he recorded "Gangsta's Paradise" for the "Dangerous Minds" soundtrack with R&B singer LV. The song was met with commercial and critical acclaim, earning Coolio the GRAMMY for Best Rap Solo Performance in 1996. With more than 5.7 million copies sold, "Gangsta's Paradise" ranks as one of best-selling singles of all time.

Every Thursday at LAX Nightclub, DJs spin favorite hits from the '80s and '90s, with several memorable Throwback performers hosting select nights throughout the year.

LAX Nightclub is open Thursday - Saturday from 10:30 p.m. to 4 a.m. For more information, visit or follow LAX Nightclub on Facebook -, Twitter - , and Instagram.
