Get Away From The Grind! Visit Hofsas House In Carmel California! DOGS Welcome!

Flowers In Front Of Room
Vacations and getaways, we all need to leave the daily grind behind and take time to recharge and unwind. It had been a long time between getaways for my husband and I. When the opportunity arose to take a road trip  and visit the ocean city of Carmel California, well needless to say we did not need any convincing. Our visit was scheduled for three days and three nights with the first stay being at the boutique family owned hotel Hofsas Hotel in Carmel. What a wonderful hotel! When traveling we always take our dogs, Pomeranians Lola Belle and Tobey and if you call ahead and make the arrangements you can bring your furry “kids” with you! Upon check in you receive a nice present for your dog/dogs, their private label shampoo, spray and a collapsible dog water bowl. The spray which smells light and clean comes in very handy after days spent on the dog beach. But more about that later.

Fireplace In Room
After parking and finding the hotel we proceeded to check in, and were greeted with warmth and enthusiasm by the front desk staff. We were given keys, yes real keys which I prefer to room cards and proceeded to check into room number 36. What a great room! Spacious and sunny, the windows are open so your room is full of the sea air. Our room had a King sized bed and a fireplace and the bathroom area is separate from the room, very similar to a small apartment. What more could you want in a hotel room than a large private balcony where you can see the ocean shimmering in the distance. The Hofsas House takes all the comforts of home into consideration and provides everything that you could possibly need while being on vacation (some items available in deluxe rooms - call when booking and ask.)
Full Size Vanity Area
  • Iron/ironing board
  • Small refrigerator
  • Extra pillows
  • Extra blanket
  • Separate shower/bathtub area with bathroom facilities with a sink
  • Coffee maker
  • Microwave
  • Cable Television
  • Phones with voicemail capabilities
  • Year round heated pool which is a luxury in Carmel
Everything you could need in a home away from home, without having to clean up!

Welcome Wine & Cheese
Waiting for us was a wonderful chilled bottle of Ventana Chardonnay and cheese from The Cheese Shop, with the choices of either Robiola or a flavorful Young Queso Manchego. This was perfect and was much appreciated after our day of travel. From the third story balcony the ocean was visible in the distance and you could actually hear the sound of the waves hitting the shore.

Continental Breakfast
Every morning they have a bountiful continental breakfast served from 8 am until 10 in the lobby. Waiting for your enjoyment are fresh fruit, orange juice and an assortment of flavored yogurt. Plus you can indulge in wonderfully decadent danishes, with your choice of peach, raspberry and delicious bear claws. You can either have a cup of coffee or bring a carafe of hot fresh caffeine to your room and read the paper on the deck or just relax and breath in the sea air.

As I mentioned above we had our two dogs with us and Carmel is the absolutely most dog friendly town on the West Coast. The Hofsas House is located within walking distance of art galleries, shopping and dog friendly restaurants. Clint Eastwood’s former restaurant the Hogs Breath is just down the street and dogs are welcome on the patio. Be sure and visit the specialty dog retail store “Diggity Dog” for dazzling accessories and fantastic dog clothes. They have items for sporty dogs, blinged out dogs, and preppy dogs!

Carmel has a scenic route called the 17-Mile drive which takes you through some of the most exclusive real estate in California. This drive takes you through Pebble Beach and Pacific Grove on the Monterey Peninsula and you will see enormous mansions. Keep on the look-out as there are delicate deer that are grazing on the roadside. You will also drive by miles of beach views and you can park on the side of the road on designated areas and take your dogs on leash and stroll along the exclusive beaches.

Lola Belle & Tobey At Carmel City Beach
For a more relaxed version visit the Off-Leash dog friendly beach Carmel City Beach. There are limited parking spaces but no charge to stroll along the beach with your dog/dogs! Our pomeranians were fascinated by the seagulls and batches of seaweed which washed up on shore. Expect to see big dogs, little dogs, medium sized dogs and all types imaginable.  Plus your dog/dogs can frolic off leash! Free to be dogs, but well behaved dogs are always best when in an off leash environment. Plus of course please pick up after your dog. After a day at the beach spritz your dog with the Hofsas House dog spray and they will not only feel refreshed but the odor of seaweed will not be attached to their coats.
Tobey Relaxing In The Room

Staying at The Hofsas House was an entirely enjoyable experience and this boutique hotel has been family owned by three generations of wonderful women. They have worked hard to ensure that your experience at the hotel is exceptional and unique. With 38 rooms, each room has a distinctive charm. If you have any questions about restaurants or sightseeing just ask the front desk, they know Carmel inside and out!  There is not bad time to visit Carmel but if you are there in the Spring and during the Winter months be prepared for chilly evenings and bring a couple of sweaters The hottest months are September and October. California has been in a drought for several years and the hotel recycles water and even collects rainwater and dew to use for watering the beautiful plants and flowers on property.
