Step Out And See A Flock Of Seagulls At The Suncoast

Legendary 1980s synth-pop rock group, A Flock of Seagulls, with original frontman Mike Score, will perform at the Suncoast Showroom Jan. 9.

Score, a former hairdresser, started A Flock of Seagulls with his brother Ali in Liverpool in 1979. They took the band’s name from a lyric in “Toiler on the Sea,” a song written by the popular ‘70s English punk-rock band The Stranglers.

In 1981, A Flock of Seagulls released its debut EP that featured the single “Telecommunication,” which became an underground hit on the European new-age club scene. In 1982, the band found success in the United States with its Billboard Hot 100 hit “I Ran (So Far Away).” The music video contributed to the band’s popularity, featuring Mike Score and what is now known as one of the most iconic hairstyles of the 1980s.

Following its Billboard debut, A Flock of Seagulls returned with its sophomore album “Listen” in 1983, which contained another Billboard Hot 100 hit “Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You).” In the same year, the band charted once again with the single “Space Age Love Song.”

Mike Score is pursuing a solo career in addition to touring as lead vocals and keyboardist for A Flock of Seagulls. He released the singles “All I Wanna Do” and “Somebody Like You,” from “Zeebratta,” his debut solo album that was released in March 2014.

Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $20 plus taxes and fees and can be purchased at any Boyd Gaming box office by calling 702.284.7777 or by visiting www.suncoastcasino.com.
