A Hot Havana Night Party Is Coming To The Mob Museum

This summer, an unmistakably tropical vibe returns to downtown Las Vegas when The Mob Museum, The National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, hosts “Hot Havana Nights.” On Thursday, August 6, from 6 to 10 p.m., guests will celebrate everything vibrant about Cuban culture, including its delectable cuisine, the sounds of the nine-piece Cuban-American Jazz band Rumbantela and dances such as the Tango and Conga. Classic casino games including blackjack, roulette, craps and baccarat will be available, as will tropical cocktails and a cigar bar. Hot Havana Nights is sponsored by Johnson Brothers of Nevada and presented in collaboration with the Cuban Heritage Foundation.

“The Mob Museum provides a distinctive backdrop for occasions that bring some of Mob history’s legendary entertainment scene to life,” explains Geoff Schumacher, director of content, The Mob Museum. “Hot Havana Nights allows attendees to put themselves into the story, capturing the sensation of how it might have felt to be a guest at Cuba’s famous resorts all those decades ago.”
The evening is inspired by the decadent Havana resorts of the first half of the twentieth century, which attracted everyone from celebrities and scions of industry to middle-class vacationers. Visitors were drawn to Havana by its permissive, sun-soaked, indulgent atmosphere—comparable to the one eventually associated with Las Vegas. By the '40s, all Havana’s major resorts and casinos were run by U.S. Mob families from Chicago and New York, representing another dynamic replicated a few years later in Las Vegas.

A variety of items from Cuba’s heyday as America’s playground are on exhibit at The Mob Museum. Objects on display include photographs, a 1958 issue of Life magazine containing an exposé on the “U.S. Gambling Mob in Cuba,” artifacts from infamous Havana hotels, casinos and cabarets such as the Nacional, Tropicana, Sans Souci, Casino de Capri and Hotel Habana Riviera.

Hot Havana Nights is sponsored by Johnson Brothers of Nevada and presented in collaboration with the Cuban Heritage Foundation. Supporting sponsors include Las Vegas Review-Journal, El Tiempo and WENDOH Media.

The Mob Museum is a world-class destination in downtown Las Vegas dedicated to the thrilling story of organized crime and law enforcement.
