Taylor Hicks wins The BiLLe Celeb & gives $12k to Wounded Warriors!
American
Idol” season five winner and Bally’s Las Vegas headliner Taylor Hicks is the
recent winner of The BiLLe Celeb Charity Challenge and will present a check
for €10,000 (approx. US $12,000) to the
Wounded Warrior Project during his show on Tuesday, July 31.
On
Thursday, July 26, Hicks won The BiLLe Celeb Charity Challenge, an online
contest where "Superfans" upload celebrities and "Fans"
vote daily, ultimately directing a pool of charitable donations to the winning
celeb's favorite charity. Each week, the Superfan who nominated the winner and
one Fan who helped vote that celeb to victory have a chance to take part in a
ceremonial check presentation.
Superfan
Holly Dey from Connecticut received a final push with the help of Taylor Hicks
himself, which helped her to gain the win.
“This
is such an exciting experience,” said Dey who nominated Hicks and was flown in
by the contest operator to meet Hicks and present the check. “I was already
flying out to Las Vegas to see Taylor Hicks’ show when they let me know that
I’d won the contest. I’m a huge fan of Taylor’s and love that he supports the
military with both his music and his actions.”
“It’s
great to be able to reach through to fans with Twitter and make something like
this a possibility,” said Hicks. “My American Idol fan base came through once
again and I look forward to meeting Holly and to presenting these funds to
Wounded Warrior Project.”
Amy
Frelly, warrior outreach coordinator for Wounded Warrior Project, would concur.
“We are so grateful to Taylor and his amazing fans for their support, and to
The BiLLe Celeb Charity Challenge for this incredible donation which will help
provide resources to support our 18 different programs that will continue to
honor and empower wounded warriors.”
Anyone
18 or older can add a celebrity or vote at CelebCharityChallenge.org, and there
is no cost to participate. The winning celebrity is announced every Thursday at

“Whiskey Wednesday” at Andre's - Scottish Lowlands tastings!
Whiskey
Tasting has never been finer than the great “Whiskey Wednesday” evenings at
Andre’s Cigar Lounge on the Las Vegas Strip.
Packed
with whiskey and scotch lovers at all levels of “expertise,” these Whiskey
Tasting Events take place the first Wednesday of the month at Las Vegas’
renowned Cigar Lounge on the 2nd floor of Andre’s Restaurant in the Monte Carlo
Casino.
The next
Andre’s Cigar Lounge “Whiskey Wednesday” is scheduled for Aug. 1st, 2012, 9
p.m. to 11 p.m., and features a wallop of a treat – an evening of Single Malt
Scotch tasting. Tickets are just $25 with RSVP – call (702) 798-7151 – or $35
at the door.
Given
that Las Vegas’ first Celebrity Chef Andre´Rochat has avidly collected
whiskeys, cognacs and armagnacs for more than 40 years, you can be assured that
these renowned Las Vegas Whiskey Tasting Events always feature the world’s
finest – and rarest – selections. For August’s “Whiskey Wednesday at Andre’s,”
we’ll be tasting through the Scottish Lowlands, with Single-Malts from
Auchentoshan, Glenkinchie, and a specialty Auchentoshan bottling from Duncan
Taylor.
Auchentoshan
Single Malt Scotch Whisky is produced near Glasgow and is nicknamed “the
breakfast whisky” because of its sweeter, fruitier nature. Established in 1800,
Auchentoshan is the only distillery in Scotland to have a third still. The
triple distillation creates a very smooth single malt scotch. At the same time,
the triple “dip” takes the spirit from the average 70% proof to about 81%,
creating a subtle whisky that then matures beautifully in oak.
Auchentoshan’s
16- year and 18-year old scotches have received double gold medals, and its
“Three Wood” won “the best Scotch Whisky and Cigar Combination” at a recent
World Spirits Competition in San Francisco.
Glenkinchie
is produced in East Lothian, Scotland, about 15 miles from Edinburgh. Set in
rolling farmland, the distillery is one of only three remaining Lowland malt
whiskies in production in the world. With origins that date back to 1825, the
founding brothers, John and George Rate, renamed the distillery to Glenkinchie
in 1837, and it’s never missed a year of production. Glenkinchie features a
10-year, a 12-year and a 14-year-0ld Distiller’s Edition that is double matured
in sherry casks. Noted for its fresh and light character, Glenkinchie is
considered a phenomenal introduction to the world of Single Malt Scotch.
Mark
your calendar now for Whiskey Wednesday, Aug. 1st! We recommend you RSVP in
advance as tickets tend to sell out quickly. Call (702) 798-7151 for $25
tickets (they are $35 at the door).

Poker Royalty Barbara Enright is interviewed by High Roller Radio!
It’s
All About the Money and a Little Piece of Poker History
By:
Derrick Oliver
I was so excited! It was the exact reason I embarked on this
journey of mine, a fascination called High Roller Radio – a chance to meet,
talk to and get inside the head of gambling greats and poker legends. I was about to enter into a 20 minute Q&A
session with a member of poker royalty.
Barbara Enright is the only woman to ever reach the final table of the
Main Event at the World Series of Poker.
She was the first woman ever to win an open event at the WSOP and she is
a member of poker’s Hall of Fame. She
also has three WSOP gold bracelets in her jewelry collection.
As the phone rang I knew what my first
question was going to be, considering the Main Event for 2012 had just wrapped
up and the last two women standing finished 11th and 10th. They were a victim of the so-called final
table “bubble”, a final table that only accepts nine. They were right there, at the doorway, oh so close
to a piece of gaming history, to a place beside Enright and to having a chance
at $8.5 million.
“Hello,” she answered, “Hi Barbara,” I
said, and we were off to the races. A
true High Roller was about to grace the airwaves on High Roller Radio.
“The honest answer is this,” she said,
sounding as though she’d been approached with this inquiry before. “Records are meant to be broken and nobody
can ever take away the fact that I was the first. The distinction is nice but I don’t think
about it much. I play poker for
money. I know it would have been special
for them and I was pulling for them. I
was happy for them and I was hoping both would have made the final table and
one of them would have won. People think
it bothers me but it doesn’t. They made
a good run and made some good money.”
Enright can empathize with being
close. In 1985, the same year she became
the first woman to win an open event, with men and women, Enright navigated a
large and talented field of runners to make it to the showcase finale. She finished 5th for a good payday
but a ton of heartbreak as well.
“It was a really terrible feeling for me,
more so because of the beat I took,” Enright reflected, referring to way she was
eliminated that year, her pocket 8’s losing to an opponent’s 6 3 of
diamonds. “If I had pocket 10’s up
against pocket Aces I could understand it.
That was tough. It still haunts
me today.”
So Enright, in her way, can fully
understand what the bubble women of 2012 are going through now and will have to
relive later. She acknowledges the
upper-level female players in the game today are holding their own. Players like Vanessa Selbst, Vanessa Rousso,
Annette Oberstad, Annie Duke and Jennifer Harman are celebrated to the point
their gender never enters the conversation.
They’re just ‘poker players’.
“I think the ones who play seriously are
as good as any man, if not better. It
kind of proves it, with the two women finishing 10th and 11th
this year. Considering how many women
are playing, percentage-wise, they’re doing better than the men.”
Barbara Enright has three children but
says she was never discouraged from pursuing a life on the green felt. In the early days she held jobs as a waitress
and bartender but eventually settled on pokers.
She was simply making too much playing cards. She put in the time and effort to make it in this,
as cutthroat an industry as there is.
“Women have an equal footing in poker
although I don’t think it’s a perfect sport because you’re sitting a lot and
sitting isn’t all that good for you. I
like the poker but I could have chosen a career that was better for me
physically.”
Elected to poker’s Hall of Famer in 2007
alongside Phil Hellmuth, Enright was enshrined into poker immortality as one of
the game’s all-time best, was reserved a chair beside the likes of Johnny Moss,
Amarillo Slim, Johnny Chan, Doyle Brunson and Stu Ungar, who she had dinner
with once but “didn’t really know him”, she said referring to the troubled
genius, the card savant who died as the result of drugs and reckless
living. She is still the only woman ever
to make the final table at the Main Event, a distinction she likes but one, for
Enright, that pales in comparison to the cash.
She owns three bracelets and she is a legend.
When the interview was over and we said
our good-bye’s I thought to myself, ‘that was awesome, I just spoke to a High
Roller. To listen to the full interview

phenom Soulja Boy celebrated his 22nd birthday with swagger at Chateau

night.

by a group of close friends, Soulja Boy partied on the rooftop of Chateau

way to the DJ booth where he went from laid-back to on fire as he took the mic
and did a shout-out to fans. He impulsively sang a few lines from some of his
hit songs as thousands cheered him on and then DJ J Nice played a birthday mix
in celebration of Soulja Boy’s big day, which included good friend 50 Cent’s
legendary birthday song as the crowd sang along.
Soulja
Boy Tweeted birthday posts from fans throughout the night, and even got a
trending topic started on Twitter through his own #happybirthdaysouljaboy @chateaulv
Tweets.
Chateau
Nightclub & Gardens offers three distinctive nightlife experiences in the
main club, the second-story outdoor Terrace overlooking the Las Vegas Strip,
and the lush Chateau Gardens on the rooftop underneath the awning of the Eiffel
Tower at Paris. Reminiscent of a lush garden in Versailles, Chateau Gardens
spans 22,000 square feet in an unparalleled setting beneath the stars,
overlooking the world-famous fountains at Bellagio.

Fresh beat the heat cocktails now at Central Michel Richard at Caesars Palace
Central
Michel Richard at Caesars Palace is pleased to introduce five new seasonal
cocktails to its menu.
Whether
guests situate themselves at Central’s expansive white onyx bar fronting the
lobby of Caesars Palace, or a table outside on the restaurant’s lushly
landscaped terrace to enjoy the sunshine and gentle breezes—these cocktails are
sure to set a festive mood:
CAIPIRIHNA
DE UVA – With lime wedges, Cachaça, muddled red grapes, basil leaves and honey
simple syrup, this twist on the classic Brazilian cocktail is delicioso!
BUBBLEBERRY
– Bring on the bubbly! Vodka, lemon juice, simple syrup, Domaine de Canton—the
world’s first ultra-premium French ginger liqueur—and Champagne are mixed and
finely strained into a Champagne flute before being finished off with a mint
leaf roll.
LEMONADE
SMASH – A blend of Gentleman Jack Tennessee whiskey, honey syrup (made with
honey, hot water, Angostura bitters and cloves), fresh lemon—all capped by a
splash of club soda.
SUMMER
SANGRIA – This fresh summer concoction features lime, muddle strawberries and
blueberries mixed with Moscato d'Asti wine, brandy and St. Germain Elderflower
liqueur garnished with fresh lemon and
orange wedges.
GRANADIA
SANGRIA – Another twist on the summer classic, this time with pomegranate
vodka, St. Germain Elderflower liqueur, fresh lemon juice and simple syrup, all
shaken and strained above an iced Bordeaux glass, all topped with ginger ale and
floated with Luigi Bosca Malbec wine.
Central’s
spring cocktails range in price from $10 to 14 and are available 24 hours per
day.
The
five new cocktails join current crowd pleasers: Blueberry Blitz which blends
Stoli Blueberi Vodka with lemon juice, Champagne and simple syrup and the
Strawberry Basil Mojito, a fusion of Bacardi Rum, basil club soda, lime juice
and simple syrup.
Central’s
wraparound, double-sided bar provides guests to the restaurant and the hotel an
incomparable people-watching vantage point, while the outdoor terrace ranks
among the top al fresco dining spots in the city. Brightly lighted with
sunshine during the day and suffused with ambient, evocative lighting at night,
Central’s atmosphere offers a lively backdrop for superb dining, round the clock.
As for the menu, it reflects Richard’s signature American cuisine crafted with
a French accent, notably excellent beef, lobster and crab burgers, fried and
rotisserie chicken, succulent steaks and tantalizing desserts. Just like the
menu and décor inside and out, the entire experience is unpretentious yet
imaginative.
The
300-capacity restaurant is located in the area previously occupied by the
Augustus Café, adjacent to Caesars Palace’s bustling registration lobby. This
prime location at the Strip-facing main entrance of the hotel allows for guests
to park in the hotel's main valet and go directly into the restaurant. Central
is Caesars Palace's only location to be open 24 hours a day, seven days per
week and is the world’s first restaurant to be helmed by a James Beard
award-winning chef.

Michelin starred Chef Masa Takayama's new restaurant Tetsu due to open!
On
August 1, Michelin-starred Chef Masa Takayama will debut Tetsu, his first
teppan concept at ARIA Resort & Casino. Tetsu will deliver an intimate
dining experience featuring the fresh, high-quality ingredients, and
unparalleled culinary techniques for which Chef Masa is renowned.
“Tetsu
translates to ‘iron’ in Japanese, which is why we refer to the Iron Chef in
Japan as ‘Tetsu,’” said Tetsu Executive Chef/Creator, Masa Takayama. “It is the
idea that the chef cannot be beat. This concept will be embodied at Tetsu – you
will not find this quality of teppan cooking anywhere else – it is the best of
the best.”
“Tetsu
is a testament to ARIA’s establishment as a top dining destination, not only in
Las Vegas, but the world,” said CityCenter President and COO Bill McBeath. “We
are honored to house yet another Masa Takayama culinary masterpiece and look
forward to offering our guests this exclusive dining experience.”
Tetsu
will feature highly skilled teppan chefs overseeing six grills – four
blackjack-style tables and two communal teppan grill tables seating five and
10, respectively. A produce table serves as the room’s centerpiece, displaying
the finest quality meats and seafood; and offering guests the opportunity to
select the proteins for their entrée, specifying the exact cut, portion size
and preparation style they desire.
The à
la carte teppan grill menu allows guests to taste a variety of offerings such
as the Toro Tartare with Caviar, Sizzling Jalapeño Octopus and Oyster with
Tomatillo Ceviche. Other main course grilled offerings range from Center-Cut
Lamb Chop and Herbed Chicken Thigh to Foie Gras.
For
the full Masa experience, Chef’s world-renowned sushi and sashimi also will be
available, including delicacies such as Toro Fatty Tuna, Giant Clam and Live
Shrimp. Served chilled as well as
grilled, the incredibly fresh, skillfully sourced seafood such as Sea Bass from
Chile, Scottish Salmon and Maine Lobster Tail provides a diverse selection that
will delight guests.
Side
accompaniments including Yakisoba Noodles, Garlic Butter Fried Rice, Habanero
Shrimp Nuggets and Spicy Mango Zucchini Julienne Salad will complement the main
course. Masa’s unexpected and refreshing desserts – such as his famous Truffle
Ice Cream, Grapefruit Granite and Yuzu Sorbet – will complete the meal.
Tetsu’s
hours of operation will be Wednesday through Sunday 5 p.m. - 11 p.m. Guests
enter Tetsu through barMASA, located adjacent to the stunning ARIA lobby. For
more information or to make reservations, call 702.590.7111 or visit www.arialasvegas.com
